00:00 When we talk about cancer, a lot of times we're talking about what it means to be physically
00:05 well, but we have to talk about what it means to be mentally well because dealing with a
00:10 cancer diagnosis as a patient, a family member, the care partner, the primary care partner,
00:16 it's overwhelming.
00:17 It can be stressful.
00:18 I think that all cancer survivors should seek mental health because if you do not take care
00:24 of it or if you do not face things that you need to face from a mental health standpoint
00:31 while you're going through your initial diagnosis, once you reach survivorship, it can show up
00:38 in many, many ways.
00:40 If you don't say what your needs are, people don't know how to help you.
00:46 So I've learned that as hard as it may be and as independent as I am, I had to learn
00:52 to ask for the help and support that I needed just so things weren't spiraling out of control.
00:58 I think that superwoman syndrome has impacted a lot of us in a lot of different ways.
01:03 Think about what you need to continue to deliver your superpowers to everybody around you.
01:10 And so that's what I would say.
01:12 Put yourself first, especially where your health is concerned, so that you can continue
01:19 to be all of those things to other people in your lives.
