With so many restaurant across the north east serving great food we asked the people of newcstsle for their favourite

00:00 In the North East we have a lot of very unique dishes.

00:06 You've got the stottie which for those who don't know is a round very dense bread and

00:11 what goes perfect on a stottie?

00:13 Peas pudding of course which is also a North East delicacy.

00:17 In the region you've also got a singing hinny which is a kind of griddle cake or a scone

00:23 that is usually found in the mining towns of Northumberland.

00:27 And if you go a bit further down the region you could even try a palmo which is a piece

00:33 of breaded chicken topped with white sauce and cheese.

00:37 Whilst all these foods are unique to the region many restaurants or takeaways include them

00:42 on their menu.

00:43 And with so many restaurants across the North East it can be hard just to pick one.

00:49 From chain restaurants to more local places for food the North East has a lot to offer.

00:54 But where do the public love best?

00:56 Well we took to the streets of Newcastle to find out people's favourite restaurant.

01:02 Now if you could pick a restaurant in the North East that you would recommend to someone

01:05 or somewhere that's like your favourite place to go and eat where would it be and why?

01:12 I think my favourite at the moment is the Eslington Villa in Lofell.

01:17 Just the food is fabulous and the service is great and it's a dead friendly place to

01:21 go to and that would be my favourite at the minute.

01:25 What kind of food do they have?

01:28 Good English grub really.

01:29 Yeah, yeah.

01:30 But a bit different.

01:31 A bit different.

01:32 Yeah.

01:33 I'm also asking people about your favourite restaurant in the North East.

01:39 Do you have one that you would either recommend to someone or one that you can pinpoint that's

01:43 your favourite?

01:44 If I told you the truth I don't eat out much at all.

01:47 We don't.

01:48 It's not something we do.

01:49 Particularly since lockdown I think.

01:50 Since 2020, 1920.

01:53 We haven't, we don't frequent them at all.

01:55 We do like an Indian.

01:57 We have quite local.

01:59 We try to support the local takeaways that you can walk to which is quite good, that

02:05 type of thing.

02:06 Support local but to be honest there isn't one I could recommend in Newcastle.

02:10 I have been to the Flower Cafe.

02:12 I was there which was nice.

02:14 Yeah, but no I'm not particularly a person who eats out a lot I'm afraid.

02:20 I'm asking people for your favourite restaurant if you were to recommend a restaurant anywhere

02:24 in the North East what one would you recommend and why?

02:28 I would recommend Malcalzone which is in Sandeford and Jesmond.

02:33 It's a family run business.

02:35 The food is amazing and it's really good quality.

02:39 What kind of food do they sell?

02:40 It's Italian food but they have a specials menu and it's really really good.

02:45 Well by the sounds of it, the people we spoke to love to stay local when it comes to restaurants

02:50 and food.

02:52 There seems to be a lot of support for local businesses or family run businesses up here

02:57 in the North East which must contribute to those who decide to eat locally.
