With the news that standard service charges occur more and more in UK restaurants, do we think this is now just part of everyday life, or do people in the North East still think tipping should only be for good service? We took to the streets to find out.

00:00If there's already service charge on the bill, personally I would never tip, unless they've gone above and beyond and
00:06then I would tip on top.
00:07And just personally I think I wouldn't tip very often unless the server has gone above and beyond, all the
00:12food's amazing, I'm blown away.
00:14I think it should always be optional. If somebody does a good job for you when you're out at a
00:19restaurant or wherever,
00:20then yes, it should be a case of, right, you've made my evening an enjoyable evening, therefore I will give
00:27you a tip.
00:30Whereas I think it's kind of just, oh, it's on anyway, well, what about a rubbish night?
00:34I don't want anyone to tip, so it gives me money back.
00:37A lot of restaurants now, you order on an app and you pay on an app, so you don't have
00:42much contact with an actual server.
00:44So all they're doing is bringing you food, so it's like you're tipping the online system.
00:50And I think if you have contact with somebody and they go above and beyond, then I think it's good.
00:54But I think if you're not having, if you're having minimal contact, I think that's when it kind of draws
00:59the line.
00:59I think it's fine.
