Alexander Stewart tells THR what it feels like to blow up on TikTok at the 2023 VMAs and shares one iconic moment he remembers from past VMA shows.

00:03 It's unbelievably exciting. It's my first time, which is crazy, so I'm just kind of on this carpet.

00:14 I mean, I'm very, very excited to see Doja Cat play.

00:18 One of my favorite artists ever, and also I've never seen her play, so I think it's gonna be...

00:22 I'm gonna have a blast in there.

00:25 When we think about the VMAs, we think about all these iconic moments and performances.

00:29 What is one moment or performance that sticks out to you?

00:33 My God, I mean, I don't think you could...

00:36 There are literally so many, and I don't think you could possibly actually pick one.

00:41 I grew up every single year, I watched "In the Kitchen" with my entire family.

00:44 I think probably...

00:47 There was one moment when I was really young, when Lady Gaga went up to perform,

00:51 and this was... I will never forget this, and I remember my parents, it was one of her more risky performances,

00:56 and my parents were like, "You can't watch this," and I literally snuck in and just hid behind the counter,

01:00 and I was like... I watched the whole thing.

01:03 Will never forget that. That has to be my favorite. That has to be my favorite.

01:06 And in that moment, you were like, "I have to do this, too."

01:08 Yeah, no, I was like, "Okay, first off, why am I not there? Second off, I wanna be that."

01:14 Well, you're here. You're here. I wanna talk about your new single that just came out.

01:18 It has been blowing up everywhere, especially on TikTok.

01:20 How did that feel for you when that started to happen?

01:23 I mean, it was wild. It's also been wild because when I first started posting about it,

01:28 I just got my tonsils out, so I was four-day post-op.

01:32 I posted about it, couldn't even speak, and then went on TikTok, and I was like, "Whoa,"

01:38 which is actually just bizarre. So it's been really wild, and I'm unbelievably grateful,

01:42 and it's been a very weird journey over the last month, but it's been really fun.

01:49 What is one album that you have on repeat right now?

01:53 Oh, Anne-Marie's new album. It is so good, unhealthy, especially the single "Unhealthy" with Shania Twain.

02:02 I grew up in Timmins, where Shania Twain is from, and I love Anne-Marie,

02:05 so when that came out, I went, "Amazing. It's beyond good."
