00:00Joel's lying there dead. I don't know how you guys did that moment.
00:04Caitlin Deaver is saying she couldn't watch Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's final moment in The Last of Us.
00:11The trio of stars look back on season two's game-changing second episode during HBO Max's nominee celebration on Sunday.
00:18The season's second episode, which sees Deaver's Abby brutally murder Pascal's main character, Joel,
00:24was the subject of much of the conversation during the panel.
00:27Pascal opened up about the emotional final scene, saying,
00:30Given that Joel also dies in the video game that the series is based on, Pascal says,
00:54The moment was still a surprise to many fans, though,
00:57and is a pivotal part of the series.
00:59After an appearance in season two's first episode,
01:01the second episode serves as the formal introduction to Abby,
01:05who will take over as the lead character for the upcoming third season,
01:09as a young woman out for revenge after Joel killed her father.
01:12Pascal also noted how he and Ramsey, whose characters are not on good terms in season two,
01:17had been apart for a while between the show's first and second seasons.
01:21Because we'd been together for a year, and then we saw each other here and there,
01:25we're always keeping in touch, but we were really kind of like physically apart for a long time.
01:30And then when we got back together, our characters weren't together.
01:33That was just really strangely painful in a way that I hadn't personalized on previous jobs.
01:38So it was all kind of magical in a kind of painful way, which helps you play it.
01:42As for Deaver, she noted that the final scene between Joel and Ellie was too emotional,
01:47she couldn't even be there.
01:49Joel's lying there dead.
01:50I don't know how you guys did that moment.
01:53I had to leave the room.
01:54I couldn't watch it.
01:55I don't know how you did it.
