00:00 Most of the fire there is at advice level, so just instructing people in the area to
00:07 stay alert, take a look at the warnings and to make sure you are ready to go in the case.
00:11 But if we look closer at the map, you'll see an orange line, that is a finger that is at
00:15 watch and act level.
00:17 That finger, as you can see, is going closer and closer to the town of Tennant Creek.
00:21 There's no danger for the residents of Tennant Creek, they say, right now, but it's 30 kilometres
00:25 from the town at the moment and that could move later in the week when there's possibly
00:29 a wind change, as reported by the Bureau of Meteorology.
00:33 So the fire started last week at Epinara Station.
00:35 It started from two fires which formed into one, as has been blazing for quite a while
00:39 now.
00:40 A significant amount of smoke has come from the fire, which can be seen from all over
00:44 the territory.
00:45 But the main focus right now is keeping the fire away from the population centres at Tennant
00:49 Creek.
00:50 Most of this area, it is the outback, it's just a lot of farm stations, a lot of livestock.
00:54 A lot of the parashuralists have been working hard to create fire breaks to stop that fire
00:58 from moving too far across the land.
01:01 And the emergency services and Bushfires NT have been working hard to form massive fire
01:05 breaks around the town of Tennant Creek to keep the residents there safe.
01:09 So the Territory Government declared an emergency situation this afternoon.
01:12 Acting Chief Minister Nicole Manneson stood up at a press conference with the Commissioner,
01:17 Michael Murphy, of the Police, Fire and Emergency Services.
01:19 And that's just to give the police and emergency services and, of course, the fireys those
01:23 additional powers needed to fight this fire properly, so they'll be able to seize assets
01:28 and move people around and get people out of the way and make sure people are safe in
01:31 the town of Tennant Creek.
01:33 Now Nicole Manneson did say that there's no danger to the people of Tennant Creek.
01:37 If people stay at least one block back from any bushland, they should not be in any danger
01:42 at all.
01:43 But there is quite a lot of smoke around, so people with respiratory problems and issues
01:46 should stay indoors.
01:48 The Acting Chief Minister says, just for the residents of Tennant Creek, that it should
01:52 be business as usual for the next week.
