Police have revealed kidnappers made two attempts to burn a stolen car that's believed to be linked to the kidnapping of Sydney grandfather Chris Baghsarian. It's been 10 days since the 85-year-old was taken from his north Ryde home in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity.

00:01It's a grey Toyota Corolla that is now the centre of this police investigation.
00:07New South Wales Police have been here in Glenory about 45 kilometres northwest of the Sydney CBD since about 6pm
00:14last night.
00:15They're particularly focusing on a vacant block and adjoining bushland further down Vesterman Road from where we are now.
00:23These investigations have seen the New South Wales dog unit, pole air, as well as the riot squad conducting line
00:29searches
00:29for hundreds of metres through what has been described as dense bushland.
00:34Now, we understand that this particular location came off the back of criminal intelligence
00:39that the New South Wales Police were able to ascertain during their raid and their search warrant on another property
00:46in Jurel,
00:47which is about a 15 kilometre drive from where we are now.
00:50Police are saying that those two properties are linked.
00:53On Friday of last week, we did hear that that property in Jurel, that police believe has effectively been abandoned
01:00for years,
01:01was used as a makeshift fortress by those alleged kidnappers.
01:05In fact, police going further, saying that they were able to ascertain from a video that they say was filmed
01:11and distributed
01:12by Mr Bagzarian's kidnappers, they were effectively able to geo-locate using that particular video footage
01:20to confirm that it was that Jurel address that Mr Bagzarian was held at.
01:25But we have now further details, particularly on a grey Toyota Corolla,
01:30that police say was found burnt out last Tuesday in Westmead in Sydney's West at about 11.30pm.
01:36It is proved to be what police have described as a significant breakthrough.
01:40Let's take a quick listen to what they had to say.
01:43I can also advise that we have some forensic links from that car.
01:47That vehicle was not burnt out totally and we're able to establish some forensic links from items inside that car
01:53that we can link back to Jurel, the property in Jurel, and also to Mr Bagzarian.
02:04There we go. New South Wales police making clear that those alleged kidnappers
02:09or those responsible for burning out that particular grey Corolla simply did not do a good enough job.
02:15Police have been able to scour that vehicle and, as they were saying there,
02:19gained some pretty critical evidence that they say links not only to this property
02:24but also the 85-year-old who does remain missing.
02:27Now, it's important to say that New South Wales police from very early on in this investigation
02:31have said that it does appear as though Mr Bagzarian was simply the victim of a tragic case of mistaken
02:37identity.
02:38They believe that those alleged kidnappers may have been targeting another family
02:42with alleged links to the Alamuddin criminal network.
02:45Now, the police unit that has carriage of this particular kidnapping
02:49are the New South Wales Police Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.
02:53These investigations still very much in their process given that we still do not have a location nor a state
03:00for Mr Bagzarian.
03:01I'll take a look at that.
03:01It is researchally used to improve the work of a firefight.
03:01You're going into the realhouse.
03:03You're going into the real-time podcast.
