00:01For generations, Perth has found ABC Radio at 7.20am.
00:07And from tomorrow, we're making the switch.
00:11We're moving from AM to FM.
00:16ABC Radio Perth on 102.5 FM.
00:20A switch more than just a frequency change for our presenters,
00:23but a step into the future.
00:26We won't suddenly become a totally music-based FM station.
00:29We will keep doing what the ABC does.
00:31You know, good interviews, accountability interviews, engagement, talkback.
00:36It's really just for the metro area,
00:38which is a huge part of our listening audience, obviously,
00:41that those people will now be on FM in that crisper, clearer quality.
00:45I might even sound OK. Who knows?
00:47I probably sound a little bit better than I currently do.
00:49While AM signals travel across the ground,
00:52FM transmitters sit high up, sending signals by line of sight.
00:56They use less power and don't need moist soil, resulting in better quality sound.
01:02Radio relies on one sense only.
01:06So you've got to have the best, the premium experience for listeners.
01:10Without that, you know, you haven't got anything.
01:13We're still trying to work out if we're going to be driving around in black thunders
01:16and handing out icy cold, cold drinks or whatever you do on an FM station.
01:19But I think we'll maintain the same ABC quality and standards.
01:23We're just going to sound a whole lot better.
01:25If there is anybody out there that doesn't know how to switch to 102.5 FM,
01:30I will come and tune your radio for you.
01:32I will do that.
01:34Whether it's breaking news, an important conversation,
01:36or simply a laugh on the drive home,
01:39ABC Radio Perth's switch to FM will bring better quality,
01:43but it won't change the core of what we do.
01:46And that's keeping Perth connected.
