The Silver Award for Pathfinders goes to Moirangthem Loiya Ngamba!

Founder of the Wildlife & Habitat Protection Society (WAHPS) in Manipur, Moirangthem Loiya Ngamba has always led by example. Not only has he rewilded an entire forest in the Maru Langol Hill Range in the northern reaches of the Imphal Valley over two decades, and inspired others to join him on his journey, but Moirangthem has also lived on the hill called Spring of Life for six long years to study the habitat and make sure that the denuded landscape is restored with care.

00:05 19 years ago when we were looking for a place to plant a few trees, we accidentally found this
00:13 place called Punshilok. You can see this is all surrounded by green cover. Before, 19 years ago,
00:20 it was just very denuded and you know because of the zoom cultivation by the local encroachers.
00:28 But now it has become a very diverse and beautiful place because of our work. What we
00:35 hope to achieve from Punshilok in the future is, this is already started. Whoever comes in
00:43 contact with this place, they immediately appreciate the surrounding because it is so
00:50 near to the Imphal, but it feels like going to some kind of a big forest. We hope to establish
00:58 a very urban conservation so that people can come and learn the history, learn to identify,
01:08 bird watching and all that. Because this Langold forest range, Langold hill range is
01:16 so close to Imphal, it acts as the lungs of Imphal only.
