00:00 when it comes to Essence Festival.
00:01 But what does Essence Festival mean to you
00:02 when you get to come here and have a good time?
00:04 - Man, it really means culture.
00:05 I feel like all of my culture shows up for Essence
00:08 and to get to have that love and support behind my music,
00:12 it means so much to me 'cause it's been a long journey
00:14 and I'm just happy to see it paying off.
00:16 - That's great, listen, I've seen you in Philadelphia
00:18 perform, you've brung the energy,
00:20 you shut it down about a couple weeks ago.
00:22 Like how has it been for you, man,
00:24 just all the energy, all the support that you bring in,
00:27 the people is really tapping into your music.
00:29 - You know what, it feels like a Renaissance,
00:32 deja vu type of energy 'cause I feel like
00:33 I've been here at this peak before
00:35 and I was such a young little kid.
00:37 And so now to have all of this momentum again
00:40 when I'm really myself and really prepared
00:42 and humble 'cause it humbled me.
00:44 I feel like, oh, I understand,
00:46 I understand why it took so long.
00:47 - What does hip hop mean to you?
00:49 - Hip hop to me is the core of being authentic.
00:53 It's really about just putting it all out there,
00:55 telling people where you come from,
00:57 telling people about the highs and the lows and keeping it a hundred.
