00:00 A lawyer has suggested that those financially affected by the cancellation of the Good Vibes
00:07 Festival can choose to file a complaint at the small claims court if the loss is under
00:12 RM5,000.
00:14 Should the court see merit in their claims, lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan says plaintiffs can
00:18 expect to claim damages for expenses such as hotel and flight charges and seek monetary
00:23 compensation.
00:24 The three-day event was abruptly cancelled on July 22 after the 1975 lead singer Matti
00:30 Healy criticised Malaysia's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual laws before kissing
00:35 his male bandmate on the first night of the festival.
00:39 Lawyer Vimal Arasin says ticket holders filing individual claims at the small claims court
00:44 may have their cases consolidated, allowing them to be tried together or immediately after
00:48 one another.
00:49 Vimal adds that an alternative to civil courts is the Tribunal for Consumer Claims administered
00:55 by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
00:58 Meanwhile, with the group of lawyers preparing to file a class-action lawsuit against the
01:03 British band on behalf of the affected individuals, Rajesh suggests that the group should instead
01:09 sue the Ministry for Financial Loss since it is the party responsible for the festival's
01:13 cancellation.
01:15 Rajesh says pursuing a class-action lawsuit against the Ministry and the government is
01:19 the way forward as it overstepped its bounds by cancelling the event, resulting in punishment
01:24 for participating businesses and artists.
