00:00 This afternoon, Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigators from Brisbane arrived
00:06 at the scene. Tomorrow more are expected to continue their examinations. They've flown
00:11 in from Canberra to help understand the circumstances of this crash which has left a man and a woman
00:16 in their 60s dead. Now the ABC understands the circumstances of what happened were the
00:23 passenger aircraft was taking off with the man and woman in their 60s on board. That's
00:28 the Jabiru J430 at the same time that what we understand to be a glider tug was landing
00:36 on a cross runway at the time that they crashed above the landing scene. Police are obviously
00:41 continuing to examine the scene. Here's what they said earlier.
00:45 I'm not able to speculate on exactly where they were positioned when they collided, but
00:50 I believe that it was in the process of landing and/or taking off, but it was close to the
00:57 ground. And Jemima, Transport Safety authorities have
01:01 now released a statement on the collision. What have they said?
01:05 Well Casey, they've begun their investigations and those answers aren't expected to be out
01:09 within six weeks, six to eight weeks even, but they're appealing for people who may have
01:14 been around the Caboolture airfield at the time or even on the Bruce Highway, which is
01:17 not too far from here, to come forward with any dash cam that could be relevant to the
01:22 investigation. Now the ABC understands that one of those planes is registered to the Caboolture
01:28 Gliding Club. Here's what the ATSB had to say a moment ago.
01:33 We will certainly be looking at the circumstances involved, the two aircraft here, experience
01:38 of the pilots and the statage of the wreckage and what was on board both those airplanes
01:43 before we can start drawing any parallels with other investigations that we may have
01:47 done. Now the surviving pilot, that 70-year-old man,
01:53 is being interviewed by police to help them understand better the circumstances of the
01:57 situation. Caboolture Aero Club has also issued a statement
02:01 extending its sympathies to the families of the deceased and we'll expect to see that
02:06 report, that preliminary report from the ATSB within eight weeks.
