00:06 I was very sure that I wanted to join the army.
00:09 And it has really motivated to fight for the country.
00:13 So I was very sure that I would become a soldier.
00:15 I didn't succeed.
00:17 I didn't get through my NDA exam.
00:18 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:29 I came to the business world 25 years back.
00:32 I think I was a better human being than this.
00:34 Business makes you tougher.
00:37 Sometimes you don't want to be tough,
00:38 or you don't want to be rude.
00:40 Very difficult to control that.
00:41 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:52 See, in my case, I was born in a plantation.
00:56 The day I was born, I always played
00:58 with the people who worked in the plantation.
01:00 All of us used to sit on the same floor with a mat,
01:04 and we used to all treated equally.
01:07 So I think you have to be first a nice human being.
01:11 Then you have to be all the other things.
01:14 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:22 In our family, it was very, very clear
01:24 that education is more important than making money.
01:29 Name is more important than money.
01:32 I think, honestly, 30 years back, I can remember.
01:34 Money was not so much respected like today.
01:37 But those days, you're a nice human being.
01:41 You're a guy who is helping others in the society.
01:44 You're a noble man.
01:45 OK, you may not have too much money,
01:47 but whatever you had, you gave to help others.
01:50 Somebody comes to get married, OK?
01:52 And they will lay down their 5,000 rupees
01:54 for the big help.
01:54 So those things were respected than money.
01:57 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:07 If you've got excess money, burn the money.
02:09 Don't give to your son.
02:11 Father told me, if you give the money to your son,
02:13 you'll lose your son, and you'll lose your money.
02:15 [LAUGHTER]
02:17 If you've got-- if you burn your money, you'll lose only money.
02:20 [LAUGHTER]
02:22 Coffee came to India in 1820.
02:25 As a family, we grow coffee since 1870.
02:27 So 145 years, we have grown.
02:29 And I'm sure that, God willing, we'll
02:32 be in the coffee for a couple of more centuries.
02:35 [LAUGHTER]
02:38 We always say it is in our blood.

02:51 If you look at any US brands, like the Mouse, or the TFC,
02:56 or the Subway, and our combination in coffee,
03:00 all these brands have taken anywhere between 40 to 60 years
03:03 to build.
03:04 Ordinary people working together for a very long time
03:06 can create great success.
03:08 I feel that 10, 15 years down the line,
03:12 we'll be top three or four coffee retail brand in the world.
03:15 More than the money, I am sure that we'll make
03:17 every Indian proud of this brand.
03:19 You have to have a vision, and you
03:21 have to have a dream which you believe in.
03:23 You have to believe in the story and dream to achieve that,
03:26 like chasing your shadow.
03:28 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:40 The greatest fear is the fear of failure.
03:42 For any entrepreneur, that is the greatest fear.
03:45 They always take lesser risk.
03:48 In life, to a successful entrepreneur,
03:50 lesser risk is not possible.
03:52 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:01 In my dressing room cupboard, I got a Swami Vivekananda's photo
04:05 with a quote, which I see every day.
04:07 "Strength is life.
04:08 Weakness is death."
04:10 What it says that you have to be confident that you'll win.
04:12 It will give you a lot of strength.
04:14 I think every day in the dressing room at 7 o'clock,
04:16 I see that.
04:18 I cannot read that.
04:19 I think indirectly, it inspires you.
