00:00Heat, storms, wildfire smoke, and maybe even a tropical system, August is putting a new spin on a familiar pattern.
00:06During the second and third weeks of August, the Bermuda High builds back west, bringing another surge of heat and
00:10humidity to the east.
00:12The southwest monsoon also ramps back up with flooding downpours, while the northwest stays hot and dry,
00:17keeping wildfire danger high and sending smoke far beyond the active fires at times.
00:21The wettest pattern sets up across the four corners and from the Great Lakes into the northeast,
00:25where repeated rounds of thunderstorms could bring localized flooding through much of the month.
00:29Then, through about August 15th, we're watching the western Atlantic, where conditions become more favorable for tropical development.
00:35It's too early to know if anything will organize, but it's something we'll be watching closely.
