Bezwada Wilson is one of the founders and the National Convener of the Safai Karamchari Andolan (SKA) which is a human rights organisation that works for the eradication of manual scavenging in India. In 2016, he was honoured with Ramon Magsaysay Award which is given to courageous to the people in a democratic setup. Wilson has been quite vocal on the practice of manual scavenging that is being practised even today when a law against it was passed in 1994 in India. He also believes that the government's scheme of building more toilets will only increase manual scavenging as the sewage problem of India hasn't been addressed in it.
