US biotech company Moderna said Monday that its coronavirus vaccine candidate was shown to provide strong protection against the deadly virus.Moderna said interim results from ongoing human trials show that its novel coronavirus vaccine candidate appears to be 94.5 per cent effective in preventing a Covid-19 infection, the deadly disease that has caused a global pandemic.

Meanwhile, the 12th BRICS summit will take place today which will focus on cooperation in counter-terrorism, trade, health, energy and ways to offset impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to attend the 12th summit of the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) grouping.
