00:00In fact, my colleague Nikhil Nas had a very interesting conversation with Sunil Gavaskar.
00:04Listen in.
00:30You've got a wicket in the last ball of the first over.
00:33And I'm thinking to myself, well, this looks a little bit different.
00:37And then again, you know, when they choked the middle order, and till the last couple of overs,
00:43it looked as if they would be able to restrict India to 160, 164, which, you know, is a pretty,
00:49it's not a daunting total.
00:51Yes, there was turn, and there was help for the spinners, and obviously with Pundeep in the team as well,
00:57India had the extra spinner to play with.
01:00But it was still, I thought, was going to be close.
01:03Yeah, eventually, one-sided contest.
01:07You know, Pakistan struggling to match up, at least when it comes to their batting against India.
01:12But anyway, now, you know, you said the pitch was turning, Abhishek was out,
01:17may have, you know, set the cat amongst the pigeons when you look at Indian perspective.
01:21And then Ishan Kishan plays that knock.
01:24On a pitch where the ball is gripping, turning, it's really tough to time the ball.
01:28At that strike rate that he played, just put that innings into context.
01:31Because he played such very good cricketing shots.
01:34Look, I think, you know, yes, this is such a natural shot for him, but he waits for the ball.
01:39It's not a wild slog.
01:40He waits for the ball and then he plays it.
01:42So he's waiting for the ball.
01:44Playing across the line has always got its hazards.
01:47But if you're waiting for the ball like he does, and then otherwise he was playing straight and he played
01:51the one where he stretched and got a boundary.
01:54So he wasn't looking to hit the ball hard.
01:58He was looking to find areas where he could hit the ball.
02:01And I think that takes a lot of good, not just skill, a lot of good temperament.
02:05And that's why his innings was impressive.
02:07Because despite the loss of Abhishek Sharma, they made sure that in that first six-overs power play, they didn't
02:14lose another wicket.
02:15Dilak played a quiet role, nudging the ones and twos.
02:19But, you know, full marks to Ishan Kishan.
02:21What a comeback he's made to international cricket.
02:24What a comeback he's made to the India team.
02:26Yeah, and what a difference he made.
02:28I think the biggest difference today between both the teams.
02:31And just continuing from there, there was a bit of a stutter there.
02:35Saim Ayyub comes up, picks up those wickets.
02:37Hardik plays that shot.
02:38And now I want you to put into context Surya Kumar, Yadav's innings.
02:41I mean, I know it doesn't look like a big inning.
02:43But at that situation, he needed a captain to do something.
02:46And the way he was getting those boundaries, no risk taking, but yet getting those boundaries.
02:49Yes, exactly.
02:50I mean, this is what we saw from him against USA as well.
02:53He wasn't looking to hit the sixes.
02:55He was looking to play the shots where the fielder's won.
02:58But for the fact that this is a big boundary, he would have got a six of that delivery as
03:03well.
03:03But at that point, it was needed.
03:06It was the 19th over.
03:08You needed a couple of big shots.
03:10And so clearly, yes, again, a very, very handy innings.
03:13You got 30, 33 out of 29 deliveries.
03:16You know, you would say, what is the strike rate?
03:17But at a time when somebody needed to play 30 innings, 25, 30 innings, he played it.
03:22So another fine captain's innings from Surya Kumar Yadav.
03:25Now let's look at it from Pakistan's perspective.
03:28Three games that happened on this ground, all three games won by team batting first.
03:33Even the night game was won by a team batting first.
03:35Many said that as the game progresses, no due here.
03:38It'll get sluggish.
03:39He wins the toss and allows India.
03:41And Surya Kumar Yadav says that's exactly what we wanted to do.
03:44Look, can you and I or anybody else who's also watching here from India, can we actually put, you know,
03:52a Pakistani mind?
03:54No.
03:55So don't ask me what the Pakistani perspective is.
03:57We don't know.
03:58I don't know.
03:58Yeah, but India would be happy batting?
04:01Of course.
04:01Yeah, of course.
04:02Sky would have done that.
04:03In a situation like this, like we talked earlier on in the show, pre-game show, I said about 170
04:09or thereabouts would be, you know, a good total.
04:11I said about anywhere, eight and a half, nine runs and over, you're asking the opposition to score on a
04:16pitch where there is a bit of turn.
04:17With India spinners, not going to be easy.
04:20You also had a situation because you mentioned Salman Ali Aga picks up that wicket, took us by surprise that
04:25he came on.
04:26A surprise he didn't continue after that.
04:28You had a situation where he shuffled bowler, Shadab came, got hit for a few runs and didn't finish his
04:33full quota of overs.
04:34Well, maybe he thought he had done the job.
04:36Maybe he thought that, you know, because after he got the wicket, he pointed at the catcher as well, saying,
04:41look, and he pointed to Shaheen Shah Afridi who took the catch.
04:45It was as if to say, you didn't bowl the first over, I bowled the first over, and I got
04:49you the wicket.
04:50Whatever, whatever.
04:51Like I said, I can't put my, you know, my mind into a, you know, into a Pakistani perspective.
04:57But, yes, you could say because the ball was turning, maybe another over of Swin Incherov, that last final over
05:04where, you know, Shaheen Shah Afridi was taken for 17 runs.
05:07Maybe that could have, you know, again been the difference.
05:09But, again, who's complaining?
05:12Nobody.
05:12Nobody from India is complaining.
05:13Let's look at India's bowling line-up.
05:16You know, you thought the Pakistani spinners were dominating.
05:18So, I was looking, you know, in mid-innings, I'm looking, okay, India's got three spinners.
05:22Maybe Abhishek comes in today.
05:23You'll need to use it.
05:24But, the Indian fast bowlers, you know, Jaspreet Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, what Pakistan struggled with, they did it.
05:29What is it that they did right on a pitch that was helping spinners?
05:32They got a little more bounce.
05:34If you have a look at the wickets of, say, Hardik Pandya or even Jaspreet Bumrah when you got Salman
05:39Aga, the extra bounce is what deceived them.
05:42The ball that got Saim was an absolute beauty of a Yorker from Jaspreet Bumrah.
05:48I just thought, you know, in the overflow room for the commentators, where we sit down in between our commentary
05:56stations, when Saim Ayyub hit that six of Bumrah's first delivery, I just said,
06:01Vakar, you know, Basit, they were all there.
06:03Well, it looks like it is going to be, you know, this young man's day because he'd taken three wickets.
06:08He had taken two catches.
06:10The last catch was an excellent catch.
06:11So, I thought it's going to be his day.
06:14And, and, and Vakar, you know, said, well, I hope it's not, we don't want it to be there.
06:18We want it to be his evening.
06:19We want it to be his night.
06:20Well, it wasn't because he was out the next ball.
06:24But again, that tells you how clever this bowler Jaspreet Bumrah is.
06:28The slightly short of a leg delivery was pulled for a six.
06:31He bowls a fuller leg under the, under the, virtually under the bat and gets, gets the man.
06:36And, well, there you are.
06:38The way they threw their wickets, and this is the only thing that you can say.
06:41Pakistan threw their wickets in the first six over.
06:44Saib Jada Farhan, sometimes ego comes in, bounce, short, short miss delivery because of the extra bounce.
06:50You know, Hardik Pandya can get that extra bounce.
06:54And immediately after that, Saib Jada's wicket caught at mid-on.
06:57The next ball flew past the, the, the, the batter.
07:01And it was not a bouncer, just a short of a leg, good kicking delivery.
07:04And, so when, in the first power play, you've lost four wickets.
07:08Then you're pretty much out of the game.
07:10Final two questions.
07:11What did you make of Usman Tariq?
07:14I didn't make any of you out of Usman Tariq.
07:16Because we hadn't really seen him against India.
07:17First impressions, actually.
07:19I, well, I mean, he, he bowls a little bit, a mix of this and that.
07:24You know, the first impression is because he goes from so wide of the crease
07:27that he's going to be called for a no ball for cutting the back line.
07:31Yeah.
07:31But then he makes a, you know, comes in and bowls those spinners and then bowls the other one.
07:36So, yes, I think he, he's, he's a bowler that, he won't be easy to score off.
07:41But he's not, against a team like India, he's not going to be a match winner.
07:47He's not going to take you three, a bunch of wickets, three, four wickets.
07:50But yes, I think he did a pretty good job.
07:52Bowler had a very good economy rate and got a couple of wickets.
07:54And finally, if you're wondering, what's that noise all about?
07:57It's the presentation ceremony that's happening.
07:59So every time an Indian player's name is called out, there's music and there is celebration.
08:03Finally, you know, we've looked at the entire game tactically.
08:06And at most occasions, we found India were the better team.
08:09And also, you know, in terms of implementing their plans.
08:12But fact of the matter is, now I'm just looking at, you know, India, Pakistan.
08:15And we were, you know, building up to this game saying this versus this.
08:18Fact of the matter is, is it, is it a fair assessment that there is a huge difference in class?
08:23There's a huge difference in skill level at the moment.
08:25Whichever way you look at it, spinners, fast bowlers, batters, huge skill difference.
08:29Yes, and temperament as well.
08:30The temperament is such a crucial element.
08:34And I don't think, you know, the Pakistanis can, at the moment, this Pakistan team
08:39succumbs under pressure very, very quickly.
08:41Okay, Sani Bhai, thank you so much for joining us.
08:44It's been a wonderful day for the Indian team.
08:46Doing rather well.
08:47You have a good night.
08:48Whatever is left of it, of course, you'll have a great Monday as well.
