A court has awarded the death penalty to three convicts involved in the horrific rape and murder case of foreign tourists near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi.

00:08It's death penalty for the convicts in the Hampi rape and murder case of a tourist.
00:14Remember, this case involved the rape of an Israeli woman and the killing of an American
00:18tourist near the World Heritage Site at Hampi.
00:23And death penalty has now been given to the convicts in this rape and murder case.
00:34Sagai Raj is joining me on the phone line on this story.
00:38Sagai, what more do we know about this case?
00:43If you notice that on March 16th, there was a case of rape and murder which was being
00:48reported from Hampi, which is a world heritage city.
00:53And what we get to learn is an Irish woman as well as American tourists, American tourists
00:59were killed.
01:00Irish woman was raped by locals over there.
01:04And immediately police acted on this, arrested people in this particular case.
01:08And within one year, all of them were both charged with trial.
01:14And even the verdict has been pronounced in this particular case.
01:18And all the accused have been convicted and they have been rewarded with death penalty.

01:33This was a shocking and horrifying incident where a tourist was gang raped and another was
01:40murdered in the very, very, in a very important tourist site in India that had led to serious
01:48questions being asked about India's tourism and safety.
