The Free Trade Area of Americas (FTAA) was the effort to bring the whole Western Hemisphere into a single free trade arrangement, which would mean more U.S. domination. It was initiated at the Summit of the Americas in December 1994 in Miami. Hugo Chavez pronounced the initiative "buried" in his speech in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in November 2005.
