00:00The Venezuelan government denounced the government of Trinidad and Tobago for orchestrating a military
00:16provocation plan aimed at destabilizing the Caribbean alliance with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
00:21And authorities in Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba and the Dominican Republic ordered the immediate
00:29evacuation of thousands of people ahead of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa.
00:33And in Colombia, Ivan Cepeda won the presidential candidacy for the historic
00:40pact with more than 65% in Sunday's primaries.
00:43Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Soe Studios in Havana,
00:52Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
01:06Venezuela denounced the government of Trinidad and Tobago for orchestrating a military provocation
01:11plan aimed at destabilizing the Caribbean alliance with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
01:16The strategy, as outlined in the executive report, appears to be a deliberate attempt to
01:20create a justification for military aggression against Venezuela.
01:24This would represent a blatant violation of the Caribbean people's sovereignty and peace.
01:28In this context, the Venezuelan authorities urged the international community to maintain
01:32a firm stance against the interventionist actions of the United States against the countries
01:37of the region, which, under the excuse of combating drug trafficking, have attacked fishing boats
01:42from various Caribbean countries.
01:43The denunciation emphasizes Venezuela's willingness to defend its territorial integrity and its
01:49right to self-determination in the face of a new U.S. interventionist maneuver.
01:55In response to these intrusive actions, the government stated, Venezuela reports that it has captured
02:05a mercenary group with direct information from the U.S. intelligence agency, the CIA, and has determined
02:10that a false flag attack is underway from the waters bordering Trinidad and Tobago, or from
02:15Trinidadian or Venezuelan territory itself, which will generate a full-scale military confrontation
02:20against our country.
02:21The statement continues, this policy of surrender and betrayal of the constitutional principles
02:26of Trinidad and Tobago has ended up hitting the very people of tribute of Trinidad.
02:32And fishermen have been victims of extrajudicial executions in the Caribbean Sea, revealing
02:38the repressive and criminal nature of the current government, which shoots at its own people,
02:43under the slogan, kill them all, and celebrates the summary execution of the people of Trinidad,
02:49while opening doors to murderous foreign troops.
02:53The current government of Trinidad and Tobago's collaboration with the militarization of the
03:02Caribbean by U.S. forces leaves the country increasingly isolated in a region that demands
03:08peace and respect for international law.
03:11Governments and peoples of Caribbean countries have denounced the intermittent maneuvers of the
03:15Department of War and the constant threat against the Bolivar and Republic of Venezuela.
03:20Influential Trinidadian politician and former minister Keith Rowley has expressed his deep
03:25rejection of Kamal Prasad Bisesar's decision, describing it as grave, dangerous, and irresponsible.
03:33The former premier gave a detailed account of how he and other Caribbean leaders have maintained
03:38a firm stance against the interference of powers in the region.
03:45I am so disturbed about this.
03:50You will recall, not too long ago, there was a situation where the United States government
03:59led arguments, OAS and the European Union, about regime change in Venezuela.
04:09And it got very heated, and it got to the point where people were expecting physical action.
04:18The European Union had given Maduro eight days to leave office.
04:25The Canadians had said to us in Caricom, time for talk over.
04:30And our question was, time for what now?
04:33And, of course, the United States had its view on Venezuela and the details.
04:39You carried it in your media.
04:40You know all about it.
04:41How did Trinidadian Tobago react to that situation?
04:46Trinidadian Tobago, as a leader in Caricom, on that matter, took a leadership role to preserve
04:55the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
04:59And we headed to the Prime Minister of Barbados and myself.
05:07We went to the office of the Secretary General of the United Nations to take a different position
05:17on the Venezuelan issue.
05:22And former Trinidadian Tobago Prime Minister Keith Rowley has criticized the current administration
05:27led by Kamala Persat-Bissasar for its increasingly belligerent stance.
05:32Every stage of the game, you all in the media knew what your country's position was.
05:38You knew what the dangers were.
05:40You know what we were fighting off.
05:42You know what the successes were and what the failures were.
05:45I made my first visit to the UN General Assembly and spoke of Trinidadian Tobago's position on this matter.
05:55So the media in Trinidadian Tobago, you know our position.
06:00Why then would you convert that firm stand of your country to create a situation?
06:11What has changed to cause Trinidadian Tobago to be a platform for foreign troops on its territory in response to a Venezuelan situation?
06:22When in fact, only days ago the Trinidadian Tobago minister in the office of the Prime Minister was in Caracas
06:32talking to the Venezuelan leadership as we talk to them all the time and the Americans and others
06:37because I was in Barbados talking to the American leadership.
06:40And CARICOM, as a unit, we cover and protect ourselves by standing on the defense of CARICOM,
06:51Caribbean is a zone of peace and we are not supporting anybody's military exclusion.
06:59Meanwhile, in the state of Zucre in eastern Venezuela, a mobilization for peace and against war took place.
07:08The people of eastern Venezuela mobilized from early Monday morning in response to the call for peace
07:14and at the request of the regional authority of that South American state with signs and slogans.
07:19The people of Zucre showed their support for President Nicol谩s Maduro and the country's defense forces
07:24in the face of threats from the U.S. government following the deployment of military troops in the Caribbean.
07:29Regarding this, Governor Johanna Carrillo emphasized the need to maintain a firm stance
07:34in defending the peace and sovereignty of Venezuela and called for continued efforts
07:39to promote the growth and development of the country.
07:46Also in Venezuela, a survey revealed that Leopoldo L贸pez, a far-right fugitive from justice for the past five years,
07:52is considered the most unpopular political leader in the country.
07:55According to the results of the survey conducted by the firm Hinterlaces,
07:5992% of those surveyed expressed an unfavorable opinion about the leadership and political performance of Leopoldo L贸pez.
08:07The nationwide study was conducted based on 1,200 interviews and has a margin of error of approximately 3%.
08:13The firm Hinterlaces specified that the data is part of its monthly monitoring of public opinion
08:19and analysis of social and political trends, as well as evaluation of public figures.
08:28A Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and Cooperation with Venezuela
08:33that was signed in May 2025.
08:35A month, the Russian President signed the decree ratifying the association agreement with Caracas
08:40in which both countries expressed their willingness to strengthen multifaceted and beneficial cooperation
08:45in the areas of trade, economy, investment, science, technology and culture.
08:49In addition, the treaty expands bilateral interaction on insecurity and denounces racism, genocide and other crimes.
08:56The document also states that Venezuela and Russia oppose coercive extraterritorial measures
09:00that constitute a flagrant violation of the UN Charter.
09:03The treaty will be in effect for 10 years.
09:10We now have our first break coming up.

09:20Welcome back.
09:41The Caribbean is on alert due to Hurricane Melissa, which has now reached Category 5.
09:45Authorities in Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba and the Dominican Republic ordered the immediate evacuation of thousands of people
09:50to safe locations in anticipation of heavy rains, flooding and the risk of storm surges and landslides.
09:56As it approaches Jamaica, the weather system is recording winds of up to 260 km per hour.
10:01As a precautionary measure, the Jamaican government set up 881 shelters, closed all airports
10:06and evacuated the capital, Kingston and other cities.
10:09For its part, the Cuban government will evacuate more than 250,000 people in Santiago de Cuba
10:14and has declared a maximum alert in four other provinces on the island.
10:18Hurricane Melissa has killed three people in Haiti and one in the Dominican Republic.
10:23Both countries have ordered the evacuation of nearly half a million people.
10:27And in Cuba, the power company reinforces infrastructure in the eastern region ahead of Hurricane Melissa's arrival.
10:41Company's director, Javier Calero-Rom谩n, explained that the stability of solar panels is ensured,
10:46both in parks that are already operational and those that are under construction,
10:51with protective slings, structural reinforcements and the inspection of foundations.
10:56Also, pruning work has been carried out in risk areas to prevent damage to poles and cables.
11:01The power company also urged the public to exercise caution around folding cables and transformers
11:07and to monitor the equipment.
11:09On Sunday, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz arrived in Rajat, the capital of Saudi Arabia,
11:19where he was received by Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
11:22During a meeting in the State Protocol Room, the Cuban diplomat thanked the country for its support
11:27in developing key social programs and in the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
11:32The Cuban delegation will participate in the ninth Future Investment Initiative Conference,
11:37which will bring together more than 5,000 leaders from 90 countries in the Saudi Arabian capital from October 27th through 30th.
11:44In Asia, Marrero Cruz will hold bilateral meetings with senior Saudi authorities
11:48in a context of growing cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, health, culture and financing for development.
11:56In the field of health, we already have a cooperation that we have been advancing.
12:05We have doctors and health professionals in different regions of Saudi Arabia,
12:10and there is an agreement between both ministries of health.
12:13Biotechnology is an area in which Cuba is very strong,
12:17and we believe that this is also a sector in which we can reach concrete agreements.
12:23And in Colombia, Ivan Cepeda won the presidential candidacy for Pacto Historical
12:31with more than 65 percent of the votes in the consultation held on Sunday.
12:35The results detailed that the senator and recognized defender of human rights, Ivan Cepeda,
12:40won he accumulated 65.15 percent of the votes, followed by Dr. Carolina Corcio with 28.73 percent of the votes.
12:48According to data from Colombia's registry, more than 2.6 million citizens participated in these elections,
12:53which not only select the presidential candidate but also define the list for the Senate of the Republic
12:58and the House of Representatives.
13:00This result comes after a month of judicial obstacles that sought to prevent Colombian progressives
13:05from electing their next candidates in the polls and forming a united force ahead of the 2026 election.
13:11And on Sunday, the president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arrevalo, denounced an attempted coup in the country
13:22and blamed the criminal alliance that exists in the public prosecutor's office and the judicial system.
13:27Surrounded by his government team and several legislators,
13:30Arrevalo addressed the country to denounce attempts to annul his mandate.
13:34He pointed the finger at Attorney General Consuelo Porras and criminal judge Freddy Orellana, whom he described as judicial hitmen.
13:42The president assured that he would go to the Organization of American States to formalize the complaint
13:47and call for national unity while also calling on the international community to consolidate an alliance in defense of democracy.
13:54In recent days, the criminal alliance entrenched in the public prosecutor's office and in certain areas of the justice system
14:14has once again attempted to plunge our country into authoritarianism, corruption and impunity.
14:21Judge Freddy Orellana, a hit man who twists the laws in the service of Consuelo Porras,
14:27tried to force the Supreme Electoral Tribunal to distort the results of the 2023 elections.
14:34This led to the unconstitutional removal of a mayor, 23 deputies elected by the Samila Movement,
14:41the Vice President of the Republic and its president.
14:44Porras Orellana and their other pathetic conspirators have created a climate of terror
14:50to pave the way for themselves and destroy our country.

17:11Union and the Belgian authorities aims to draw more attention to the children of the Gaza Strip during the current conflict.
