00:17Previous to the landfill, the hurricane left three people dead in Jamaica, while Haiti
00:23has registered five deaths and one casualty was accounted for in the Dominican Republic.
00:29Melissa is the most powerful hurricane to heat the region since Hurricane Gilbert in 1988
00:36and threatens to cause extensive damage to infrastructure.
00:43And Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel addressed the people of the eastern region ahead of the
00:48arrival of Hurricane Melissa and called to act responsibly during and after the passage
00:54of the storm.
00:55The Cuba leader affirmed that multiple brigades are already on site to start the recovery
01:00operations as soon as the weather conditions allow them.
01:04I believe that we have worked intensively, responsibly, with great dedication and effort, in a timely
01:13and consistent manner.
01:17This has enabled us to evacuate a large number of people to safe places and to take measures
01:24to protect the main resources of the economy and the belongings of people living in areas
01:31that are particularly vulnerable to flooding, landslides or other types of danger.
01:38Now the most important thing is for all of us to act responsibly for the population to strictly
01:46comply with the measures and guidelines issued by the defense authorities at the regional, municipal,
01:54provincial, provincial and national level.
01:58It should be noted that multiple teams are already in the eastern region of the country,
02:05in the provinces that will be most affected by this hurricane, to work in the recovery of
02:11the damages caused by the hurricane.
02:13In other words, there are already electricity brigades, water resource brigades, communications
02:22brigades, and construction brigades, that will work together with the forces of each territory
02:29to repair the damages.
02:30In addition, United Nations agencies have made resources available to the country in advance,
02:38and a group of resources is already in place to provide assistance, and care to those affected
02:45by this weather.
