00:50just my eyeballs do you feel that same way but he's so brutally honest with when they play great
00:57and when they don't and how many conversations he has with ollie gordon four of them like nobody gets
01:03that specific with you guys like this guy yeah you know what joe so to me a big part of

01:09is not only the player development and all that but we find out about john eric sullivan and jeff
01:16halfley right what do they favor how do they handle certain situations you know how do they
01:22prioritize zach sealer at the trade deadline how does half handle things like the chop robinson uh
01:29penalty on patrick mahomes the juju brint's taunting the ollie gordon unsportsmanlike conduct right
01:35he has this close relationship with jacob rodriguez as the head coach to the middle linebacker the green
01:41dot guy all of this stuff we're finding out about jeff halfley and how he handles situations i think
01:48it's fascinating joe every time we meet with half i'm fascinated it's so you know yeah and listen i
01:54always think especially the way malik willis handled the ollie gordon i thought was class act i'm already
02:00a huge fan of malik willis but that just the way he handled that like i love you you're going
02:06to be a
02:06big part of our success but what you did is not acceptable and and you caught it like the tv
02:12you
02:13know like wow what's going on because ollie gordon it takes him a little while to calm down whether it's
02:17a coach or any other players he doesn't just it takes a while for him and and you know to
02:24to get back to
02:25normal uh but i love the way they handled it and and by the way i don't want him to
02:29go and i don't want him to
02:30lose his passion i just want him there's a point where you have to stfu and you just he's got
02:37to
02:37get to that stfu situation where you just say you're done all right you made your point move away
02:44yeah and and i'm glad you don't get fined for the use of that abbreviation joe that's that's nice to
02:49know or or i guess we'll find out if you have that fan x in the in the well i

03:08exactly exactly but i'll tell you this joe one thing that i really like when you talk about how
03:15malik willis and the dolphins handled the ollie gordon situation so i'm working on a column on
03:20what you consider a player-led team and if this team is too young to be a player-led team
03:27and then chipping away at this and talking to other people ollie gordon they say is an emerging team
03:33leader and and so for for malik willis to have talked to ollie gordon that way shows maturation
03:41by malik willis and that ollie gordon didn't yet back at him that showed respect that ollie has for
03:47malik so kind of in this leadership type thing and and are these guys too young i mean you know
03:53ollie is a second year player but he is an emerging team leader but in that situation he did tell
04:00me
04:00you know he needs to shut his mouth and and just go you know just go to the sideline or
04:05whatever but
04:06it's good to see leadership being handled by the players and and one player showing respect for the
04:13other you know the leadership the respect it's fascinating from a few uh situations from few
04:18angles i just want to say though just for the record let me get it out there first the leader
04:22of the team is jeff halfley it's yes yes yes and i like all those other guys like hey you
04:28guys are
04:28your captains but you ain't the president you right don't everything like i'm running the damn show you
04:34guys are my guys yeah and you know what was fascinating joe is as i've talked to players about
04:39this story that i'm doing i've explained it to them that like look i covered the heat title team
04:44in oh six when you had team leaders like dwayne wade and shaquille o'neal and alonzo morning but pat
04:52riley was the clear head coach and the same thing when i covered the big three right where you where
04:57you had dwayne and and and uh lebron and and chris bosh and a bunch of others you know ray
05:03allen but
05:04spo was the clear leader so you can have player lead but the coach is still the clear leader and
05:11that's what they all said about half that half is the is the leader of this team he is the
05:15the coach
05:16but you do need to be able to handle stuff player to player and they say that that's what's going
05:21on
05:21despite this being a young team um so it's a tough one you're up 10 and uh and cruising along
05:30and you get a stop to start to the second half you're like wow we we got a lot of
05:34good things
05:34going on and uh and then it kind of got away from you a little bit and i know the
05:40ollie gordon
05:40unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was was one of the things and and you had a couple opportunities to
05:46make plays and and you you bounce off and uh the quarterback drake may had played up just about a
05:51perfect second half to give the guy some credit even without some of his weapons how good he was
05:57but i still like the way they're fighting i was disappointed like everybody else that we couldn't
06:02you know do a little bit more and keep that lead to pull a huge upset if they would have
06:06won that game
06:07but um there were a lot of good guys are making more and more plays it's not perfect it still
06:15doesn't
06:16have enough talent on it it still doesn't have enough experience on it but man i just feel like
06:22we're getting the most out of this thing perk am i got too much of a cheerleading outfit on here
06:28with
06:28what i'm watching no no no the girls did hand me one at the end of the game it was
06:34wet and the one
06:35girl goes hey you want to use this girl you can don't be insane don't wear that skirt well i
06:41shouldn't
06:42be doing that none of the girls you know what i'll say this joe you see this team climbing the
06:49ladder
06:49right and so the better team won on sunday new england is the better team and so that's kind of
06:55part of the story of what we saw but also what we saw was a reduction in the self-inflicted
07:02damage
07:02and i know that we just talked about ollie gordon and i know zane gonzalez missed a field goal but
07:08they did reduce the self-inflicted damage they were good situationally right in third down
07:13in red zone penalties turnovers things like that so you do see them climbing the ladder and taking
07:21care of what they can take care of control the controllables as they like to say so they're making
07:27progress you do need to see another victory or two this month but um you know and and look the
07:34jets and
07:35indianapolis loom as two of the possibilities there right indy having the fire sale but you're
07:41seeing this team climb the ladder malik willis is is getting better he's not going to be good
07:46every single week but he's getting better chop robinson shows signs of getting better right
07:51the youngsters michael taff and jacob rodriguez is still balling and you're seeing progress with with
07:57guys like rodney mcgraw right low-key progress you're seeing kyle lewis come back and he plays
08:03the 11th snap right and so you're you're seeing with health what they can do also so you're seeing
08:09signs joe you you you you can clearly see what what sully and half are trying to do here
08:16perk um i want to get into we got a lot of stuff to get to you teased me you
08:20gave away i think kyle
08:21lewis is going to be a big part of this in second half for his cover and they're using a
08:25little bit
08:25outside linebacker safety we'll we'll talk about that a little bit later on i want to ask you this
08:29so we we have a lot of stuff to get to in this hour um are you with me i
08:34don't want to trade any of
08:35the veteran players are are you with me on that or are you willing to get one if you can
08:39get a fourth
08:40or a fifth round pick or something i want to keep all of them including austin jackson and zach sealer
08:46i don't want to move any of our guys they make up part of the great chemistry that you were
08:50just
08:50talking about leadership i don't want to leave any of the i want to keep right to the end of
08:55the year
08:55and if some of them go somewhere else and austin gets a better deal and they don't want that's
08:59different but i'm keeping them right now because he's your best right tackle how do you feel
09:03i'm an observer in all this joe and again i'm just fascinated to see how sully operates throughout
09:09this right does he value does he value zach sealer's leadership or does he value possibly
09:15getting a fifth round pick right you zach is the type of guy that every rebuild wants that every team
09:21needs right either up from the mud self-made type of guy he's good for the veterans he's good for
09:27the
09:27youngsters he produces on the field he's good in the locker room austin jackson uh look i
09:33know it's the final year of his deal but you're probably going to take a big drop in talent if
09:38austin jackson is not there you probably go to katie wallace i don't think they're going to move
09:42katie proctor so you are you willing to do that to malik willis in a season where he's already without
09:49devon h and you know so uh what is sully value and why what does he prioritize and why i'm
09:56fascinated
09:57by this trade deadline stuff because we don't know sully we knew chris greer we knew mike mcdaniel
10:02we don't know sully and half and how they operate so i'm just this year i have no predictions i'm
10:08just
10:08going to sit back and observe damn perk that was very well put man um austin jackson's clear your best
10:14guy i want to keep him for one of the reasons you said and one of the key ones he
10:19gives us everybody
10:20else a chance to have success malik to have more time to throw caleb douglas chris bell everybody
10:25else more time to get open and watch help everybody else's development so i'm not an austin jackson
