00:00You know, the end result is to win. So, like, don't take that the wrong way. And everything that we
00:05do is towards winning. But no, if we have the right guys in the building and they keep improving and
00:11they keep trusting in their teammates and trusting in themselves and develop, they'll continue to go forward and give their
00:16best and do everything they can because they respect and love their teammate and go after it and get better
00:21and win a game.
00:22So, I don't believe that we have a team that will do that. As a matter of fact, this is,
00:29and it's what I just told them downstairs in the team meeting. I told the guys very clearly that this
00:35was going to be a tough journey that we're all going to go on. And I told them that if
00:40they weren't up for it, then go talk to Sully.
00:43This is the time to find out as we build this thing and grow, who are the real guys? Like,
00:49who are the guys that we can trust that want in the boat? Because when we flip this thing and
00:52we will flip this thing that we want to have around. And the only way you find out those things
00:57is going through adversity together. And we're going to find out a lot about the guys. If there's any guys
01:02like you just mentioned, then they won't be here.
01:07Dolphins head coach, Jeff Halfley there. I am so impressed. Every time I listen to this guy speak, Omar, he
01:15just gets it. And, you know, maybe it's just refreshing to hear, you know, a little bit more normal press
01:23conferences than we've been used to last few years.
01:25But, man, Omar, it is refreshing to hear a guy who, you know, look, does not shy away from his
01:34situation, right? He has been very upfront and honest about the situation.
01:38And he's also been very upfront and honest about we need to change the culture here and we are going
01:44to turn this thing around and we are going to change said culture.
01:48And I think, you know, again, he is doing a fantastic job as the head coach of the Dolphins through
01:55not even a quarter of the season here.
01:57But the fact that this team is starting, you know, that you can see the improvement every week.
02:02They are starting to look better and they are playing competitive football, which is a whole heck of a lot
02:08more than I, you know, I think we were, to be honest, we're expecting.
02:12I know you were up there with me, Omar, when we were at practices and we saw this team go
02:16through training camp.
02:17And the expectations were quite low.
02:20So I know people want to win.
02:22I get when, you know, when you get close and you, you know, and then you make some mistakes and
02:28you kind of fumble the win there, which you did.
02:31You could have had that game, right?
02:33I get that people are frustrated, but Omar, I think this team is continuing to head in the right direction
02:40under Jeff Halfley, who just seems to win these press conferences pretty well.
02:45Yeah, he's killing these press conferences.
02:47He's definitely 4-0 undefeated in a press conference.
02:51The question is, can he solve problems and also player development?
02:57I am, yes, we, right now, I think that we've proven so far that John Eric Sullivan is quite solid
03:06at his job in terms of the talent he's evaluated, talent that he's added in the draft.
03:12Not necessarily free agency, but in the draft.
03:17But to me, the jury's still out on Jeff Halfley because I really haven't seen anything magical from a coaching
03:25standpoint.
03:26I need problems solved.
03:27That's a coach's job.
03:29I need game plans that put you, that mask your deficiencies and highlight an opponent's weaknesses.
03:37And that, yes, we can make this excuse again that, oh, you know, there's not much, that much talent around.
03:46You saw Chris Bell.
03:47You saw what he's done.
03:49Is that a guy that doesn't have talent?
03:51You saw Caleb Douglas at the beginning of the season.
03:54Yes, they're rookies.
03:55Yes, they're young players.
03:56But you saw, like Chris Bell, what is this, two weeks he's run away from every defender for big gains?
04:04And he's not even, he's probably 80%.
04:08He doesn't practice a portion of the week because he's still coming back from that knee injury.
04:13Which, by the way, is kind of crazy.
04:15It is crazy.
04:16It is.
04:16Do guys fall like that in a draft because of a knee?
04:20Oh, it happens all the time.
04:21I know it does, but I don't know why, though.
04:23To me, it just doesn't, like, these guys come back from these things so quickly.
04:28Yeah, but you do realize knees, back in the, I'm sorry, back in the 90s, like it's forever ago.
04:36The 90s were way, way long ago, man.
04:39Okay, you remember a guy named Peter Warrick?
04:41It has been a long time, Omar.
04:44You remember a guy named Peter Warrick?
04:46Yeah, sure.
04:46Played for Florida State.
04:48Probably the baddest man at receiver that I've ever seen in college football.
04:53I could stop on a dime and give you nine cents change and then go score a touchdown.
04:58But his NFL career, knee injury, like, so it wasn't, back in the Dan Marino days, you had a knee
05:08injury.
05:08Your career was over.
05:09Yeah, but we're living in today.
05:11Yeah, that's true.
05:12And as we sit here today, there have been tremendous advances in the medical game.
05:18So these guys come back.
05:20Look, Mahomes had one.
05:21He came right back.
05:23It's incredible.
05:24No question about it.
05:26What Chris Bell is doing, 10 months.
05:28Yeah, so I didn't think he should.
05:29I thought he dropped a lot for an injury that, you know, it seemed a lot.
05:34Yeah, because you saw him smack the canes.
05:36That's why.
05:37Well, yeah, I did.
05:38But he was rolling, man.
05:40He was at training camp.
05:41He was out there before, guys, and he had it rolling.
05:44No, he didn't.
05:45He didn't roll during training camp.
05:47That's because you weren't allowed in at that time.
05:50When I get access to training camp, Omar, he was out there.
05:56That one time you showed up?
05:58Yeah.
05:58Okay.
05:59Yeah.
05:59Twice.
06:00He was out there.
06:02But, you know, again, he just is a guy that fell in the draft because of a knee.
06:07And, you know, I'm not.
06:09I mean, it's great that it happened to us.
06:11It's great that we ended up with him.
06:13And we got a steal there, clearly.
06:16So I'm pleased with it.
06:18It shows you that these guys know what they're doing at the very least, right?
06:22I think these guys have shown that, you know, A, your coach can help this team improve because they have
06:29week to week.
06:30How?
06:31How?
06:31No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
06:34How would they?
06:36My position if you want.
06:37But the team is clearly playing competitive football.
06:40And you can, you know, you could try to say that the Vikings are bad.
06:44They're 4-0.
06:45You could try to say the Chiefs are bad if you want.
06:47No, no, no.
06:48I don't know if you're going to go out and say that, too.
06:50No, no, no, no, no.
06:51The Chiefs are good.
06:52Omar, the Dolphins have played four games now, right?
06:56The four teams they've played have a combined one loss.
06:58And the only reason that there is one loss is because two of the teams played each other.
07:03Yeah.
07:03Okay.
07:04So put money on it right now.
07:06They have played eight.
07:07There is no way that any other team in the NFL has played a schedule with a combined one loss
07:12through four games.
07:13You're absolutely correct.
07:14But answer this question for me.
07:17Are you willing to put $1,000 on the fact that the Las Vegas Raiders are going to have a
07:23winning record at the end of the season?
07:26I think the Raiders are a pretty good football team from what I've seen, Omar.
07:30You didn't answer the question.
07:31Are you willing to put $1,000 on the fact that the Raiders are going to have a winning season
07:35at the end of the year?
07:35I'll do a friendly bet with you if you like because I do think they have a chance to end
07:40up with a winning record.
07:41Heck, they lost.
07:41What did they lose?
07:42It's like three to the Chiefs?
07:44They're not some pushover team.
07:46And I don't know how they did it.
07:49I mean, it's really an incredible turnaround.
07:51It's amazing.
07:52They went out and they got a veteran quarterback, Kirk Cousins, that everybody turned their nose up at.
07:58And Kirk Cousins instantly made the worst team in the NFL last year.
08:01Competitor.
08:02Oh, surprise.
08:04Like, I don't know that he is responsible fully for the turnaround, Omar, but you can give him credit for
08:12some of it.
08:13Him in the center that they paid $60 billion to.
08:16Look, the Raiders are a good story for us because they show that the quick turnaround is possible.
08:22They went from the first overall pick and, you know, they got Mendoza to now being a team that, you
08:26know, I think it's very possible they finish with a winning record.
08:29They're clearly playing competitive football over there.
08:33Clearly, they have a good roster.
08:36They still get to play the Chargers twice this year.
08:38So there's two more wins.
08:40Wow.
08:41Oh, I'm taking shots.
08:42By the way, I haven't even asked you about the Mike McDaniel, Adam Gase disaster in L.A.
08:49Wow.
08:49I like that you threw Adam Gase in there, too, because not a lot of people are passing game coordinator.
08:54Yeah.
08:55Anyway, I'll ask you about it, Omar.
08:58I'll get your thoughts on it in the 7 o'clock hour.
09:00We're also going to have Dave Hyde stop by with us.
09:02We got the Heat in action at home tonight against themselves.
09:06How about that, man?
09:07The Heat.
09:08This game, by the way, I go every year when I can.
09:12The red, white, and pink game, which benefits Baptist Healthy Cancer Center out there.
09:19So it's a great night if you want to go out with the family and head over to the Kaseya
09:24Center
09:25and see Giannis and Clay and the new look Heat, man.
09:30This is an exciting roster that people are going to like.
09:34And you get a chance to go out and watch a little pickup ball tonight, a little scrimmage.
09:40Okay, do they split up the team?
09:43Yeah, it's a split squad, like a split squad scrimmage.
09:45It's fun.
09:46Is there like a draft?
09:47Does Giannis get to draft his team and then Bam gets to draft his team?
09:51No, I don't believe this.
09:53No, it's not like the All-Star game where they're going to draft a team
09:56and they're not going to shoot for captains and then pick.
09:58I believe they have the teams.
10:00They'll be ready for you when you get there, Omar, so you won't need to worry about any of that.
10:04So how much do I have to pay for this?
10:08I believe the tickets are $5, Dan.
10:10$10.
10:12I did a lot of research yesterday.
10:13$10, it all goes towards cancer research.
10:17Do I get to sit wherever I want?
10:19You can sit in the upper deck.
10:21Everyone else can sit where they want.
10:23We're going to take a pause.
10:24The 7 o'clock hour is coming up next time.
