00:16In Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for an immediate ceasefire in the Black Sea
00:22following talks with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul.
00:30Thousands of people gathered in the Serbian city of Noviza to mark the second anniversary
00:35of the railway station disaster that killed 16 people.
00:47Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:49My name is Pablo Michelicio from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:53We begin with the news.
00:54Stay with us.
01:07Heavy rainfall has severally damaged infrastructure on Ecuador's Galapagos Islands, particularly
01:12on Santa Cruz Island where flooding has disrupted transportation and essential services.
01:17The Baltra Highway, a key route connecting the island with the airport, has suffered significant
01:23damage while emergency crews are working to clear affected roads and restore access.
01:29Meanwhile, electricity crews have been carrying out repairs to damage power lines and electrical
01:35infrastructure.
01:36The National Police are also directing traffic to facilitate emergency operations and ensure
01:41safe passage for repair teams.
01:43According to local authorities, the rainfall potentially linked to the El Niño phenomenon has left at least
01:49one person dead and two others missing.
01:52Around 2,000 families have been affected by the flooding.
01:55The government has declared an emergency in Santa Cruz as rescue, recovery and humanitarian assistance.
02:01The efforts continue.
02:11President Rodrigo Paz declared a state of emergency in Bolivia on Saturday to address
02:15severe drought and flooding linked to the extreme El Niño phenomenon.
02:19The decree allocates emergency funds and rescue teams as the drought is affecting more than
02:2578,000 families in 63 communities and has caused the death of 75,000 horses besides almost 70,000
02:33hectares burned.
02:34The United Nations has warned that the current El Niño phenomenon could exceed historical monitoring
02:40levels while neighboring countries with severe forest fires, health crisis and record rainfall.
02:46Bolivian authorities have called for interagency coordination to protect vulnerable working-class
02:53communities and mitigate severe agricultural damage throughout the country.
03:06Environmental students and territorial organizations marched across Chile this Saturday to reject policy
03:13setbacks on the President José Antonio Castro administration.
03:17Processors in Santiago targeted the imminent approval of the Domingo Mining and Port Mega project,
03:23which threatens the delicate marine biodiversity of the Humboldt Archipelago.
03:29Activists warned that approving the project, Imperialist Mayor, Blue Whale Sanctuaries and Penguin
03:36nesting sites welcomed them in the government's withdrawal of 43 key environmental protection decrees.
03:43Environmental defenders demanded the administration assume political responsibility for ecosystem destruction,
03:50urging the state guarantees to prioritize public health and climate protection over corporate profits.
04:06Today we are facing the imminent approval of the Domingo project.
04:10That is why we are here talking about the political responsibility that approving this mega mining and port project,
04:17which seeks to destroy the Humboldt Archipelago would entail.
04:21It will weigh on the political responsibility of the five ministers who make up President José Antonio Cast Committee of
04:27Ministers,
04:27if they decide to destroy or to preserve the Humboldt Archipelago.
04:35The largest whale sanctuary on Chile's coast is in danger,
04:39the place where 80 percent of the Humboldt penguin population nests, along with other birds.
04:45This is more or less like the Galapagos we have in Chile.
04:49It is a unique place on the South American coast.
04:52And for that reason I am here, because if this project is approved,
04:56the place where the greatest biodiversity of marine mammals can be seen, including the blue whale,
05:02will be destroyed, the Humboldt penguin will be lost,
05:05as will other extraordinary species that only come to this place.
05:26Venezuela sat in President Ercio Rodríguez delivering more than 1,000 renovated homes in La Guaira,
05:32Caracas and Miranda as part of the Venezuela Rises Plan.
05:35The plan's main objective is to guarantee the protection and financial inclusion of those who lost their homes
05:42or suffer severe structural damage by facilitating their access to new housing
05:47or the reconstruction of their existing homes.
05:49The people now returning to these areas have been living in camps following the double earthquake
05:55and are returning to their homes after the Venezuelan government completed repairs and restored public services.
06:02With this delivery, the total number of homes handed over in Caracas and La Guaira
06:07has reached nearly 1,200 and efforts have been made to restore more than 4,600 homes in the capital
06:14district, La Guaira, Aragua and Miranda State.
06:27Through the Venezuela Rises Plan, we are renovating more than 21,000 homes.
06:33This will benefit 87,000 people, but today we are already handing over 1,157 renovated homes.
06:41That's 4,500 people returning to their homes.
06:45How exciting it is for these people who can return home today.
06:49But we have also delivered 1,153 new homes,
06:55as well as 580 single-family transitional homes,
06:59where we are already moving people from the camps.
07:02It has been my hope, and continues to be my hope,
07:05that by the end of the year, there will be no one left in the camps
07:08and that all families will have been relocated.
07:12Now in the United States,
07:15the government has surpassed 53 million early votes
07:18just a few days before the mid-term elections.
07:22According to polls, at least 44.2% of early voters identified as Democrats,
07:2832% as Republicans, and another 23.9% as Independents.
07:33In this regard, analysts and political advisors emphasize that these figures
07:37reflect the population's widespread dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump's policies.
07:43Among these, the escalation of deportation operations against immigrants stands out,
07:48which has driven border turnout as people seek to express their rejection at the polls.
08:01In the U.S., one person was killed and eight others wounded in a shooting near Lee John Field
08:07in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday night.
08:10According to local authorities, the incident occurred shortly after 7.50 p.m.,
08:15hours after the conclusion of the Magic City Classic College football game.
08:21Police have not yet disclosed what led to the shooting or whether any suspects have been identified,
08:28as the investigation remains ongoing.
08:30The fatal violence adds to growing public concern over public safety and gun violence at large
08:35community gatherings across U.S. cities.
08:44Shortly after 7.50 p.m., multiple shots rang out in the 400 block of Graymon Avenue West.
08:50Officers responded and located multiple gunshot victims. Officers then assessed and secured the scene
08:57for Birmingham Fire and Rescue to enter and render aid to victims. We can confirm that a total of nine
09:03nine victims were wounded by gunfire with at least one being confirmed deceased, one critical and seven
09:10in stable condition. Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene by officers and turned into our
09:16property room. One person has been detained and transported to the Birmingham Police Headquarters for
09:22cautioning. This is an active scene with developing information. We will be sure to provide updates once
09:28as those updates become available. And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember that you can
09:34join us on the talk at Teleshoot English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
09:40We will be right back and stay with us.
09:51Welcome back. In Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for an immediate ceasefire in the Black Sea
09:57following talks with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul. Erdogan warned that escalating drone
10:04strikes against civilian commercial vessels harmed regional stability, offering Turkish mediation between
10:10Russia and Ukraine to secure maritime safety. Meanwhile Zelensky proposed holding trilateral peace talks in
10:17Turkey next month alongside the US and European partners. As violent attacks disrupt by the global
10:23trade routes, Ankara seeks to push diplomatic efforts forward to achieve a lasting ceasefire and prevent further
10:30of the regional conflict.
10:41Alongside the escalation in the region, we are witnessing the conflict spreading to the Black Sea.
10:48It is clear that attacks on civilian vessels and steps that could further escalate tensions in the Black
10:56Sea will benefit no one. We cannot accept these attacks under any circumstances, regardless of who carries them out
11:09or what justifications are given. We call on all parties to act responsibly and conduct themselves
11:18accordingly. We will continue our talks with the parties concerned with a view to restoring navigational safety in the Black
11:29Sea.
11:31We believe that reaching an agreement would also give fresh impetus to efforts to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine.
11:41We aim to move this process forward, particularly by discussing this matter with Russia as well.
11:52On Sunday, Bulgarians began voting in a Thai presidential runoff that will define the country's foreign policy stance towards
11:59Moscow and the war in Ukraine.
12:00Acting President Ilyana Iotova, who favours dialogue with Moscow, is facing banker and former caretaker Prime Minister Andrei Radev,
12:10who is backed by the pro-Western opposition. This follows a narrow first round gap and a record low border
12:17turnout.
12:18The election comes amid rising security concerns in the Black Sea region, sparking debate over state security and foreign policy.
12:26With polling stations open across the nation, borders are being asked to make a decisive choice regarding sovereignty, economic recovery,
12:35and national defense.
12:44An upgraded free trade agreement protocol between China and Peru officially entered into force this Sunday,
12:51expanding economic cooperation. Building on the original 2009 accord, the updated framework modernizes rules of origin, customs, procedures, and digital
13:02commerce protections.
13:04Bilateral trade has climbed nearly sevenfold to over $50 billion, with five new chapters addressing global supply chains and environmental
13:13standards.
13:14The protocol reinforces the strategic ties between China and Latin America, promoting sustainable trade and economic development.
13:42The contribution to China and NATO countries
13:43Thousands of displaced families in the north of Gasset Strip gathered to demand that the work- 2022 program revoke
13:49the closure of
13:50several distribution centers and increased food rations. The protesters
13:54expressed their concern about humanitarian cuts amid restrictions
13:58imposed by Israeli forces. Experts warned the World Food Program that if aid is not
14:04increased prices will rise, food insecurity will worsen and entire
14:09families will be on the brink of famine. The people of the Gaza Strip urged the
14:14United Nations to reopen food distribution centers and adjust food
14:17rations to reflect the actual number of residents displaced by the Israeli
14:22occupation.
14:30And thousands marched through Tel Aviv on Saturday urging Jewish and Arab opposition
14:36parties to form a joint coalition following Israel's recent parliamentary
14:40elections. Led by grassroots organizers around 2,000 demonstrators called on
14:46opposition leaders to unite while trading heated exchanges with far-right
14:50counter protesters. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's blog won 53 seats short of a
14:56majority while Jewish and Arab opposition parties combined hold 67 seats.
15:01Despite holding a numerical majority opposition divisions persist while
15:05election officials dismiss unsubstantiated right-wing allegations of
15:10systematic border fraud.
15:22As usual, Bibi is dividing people. That has always been his motto, divide and rule. He is trying to use
15:30fear to drive people to the polls. I think the Israeli public should be smart enough and confident enough to
15:36understand that it would be more accurate to frame this as a choice between the
15:40human democracy, between Israel and Bibi. When Bibi needed them to secure another seat, he called himself Abu Yair and
15:48said that Arab citizens had equal rights and were part of our people and all that. One of the very
15:53few things I agree with Benjamin Netanyahuwan is that Arab citizens have equal rights.
15:58An Arab vote carries the same weight as a Jewish vote. Together, we won 67 seats for change. Seats won
16:07through Jewish and Arab votes alike are legitimate for forming a government of change, and I very much hope that
16:13is what will happen.
16:15Let's take a short break, but we will be right back with us.
16:28Welcome back. Thousands of people gathered in the Serbian city of Novi Sad on Sunday to mark the second anniversary
16:34of the railway station disaster that killed 16 people. The commemorations included a 16-minute silence beginning at 11.52
16:43a.m., the exact time of the collapse. Participants also laid flowers, candles and candles.
16:48In the name of the name of the victims. The tragedy sparked a nationwide student-led movement demanding accountability and
16:55action against corruption. Two years later, despite charges against 13 people, court proceedings have yet to begin.
17:03The anniversary comes as demands for justice and institutional accountability remain central to public debate across Serbia. The tragedy occurred
17:11on November 1, 2024, when a concrete canopy collapsed at the recently renovated station.
17:18Killing 60 people and leaving one person seriously injured.
17:30The Spanish government is preparing financial aid for the families of the victims of the Toledo train accident after authorities
17:37identified 56 of the 69 dead.
17:41In this regard, the government will take steps to establish compensation for the families of the deceased, as well as
17:48two forms of compensation under civil liability and mandatory passenger insurance.
17:53The measure will include injured persons based on the severity of their injuries, although the amounts allocated for the victims
18:01are not yet known.
18:03The Railroad Company announced improvements to ensure railway safety and restore passengers' confidence.
18:19The Portuguese police removed tents in Lisbon and Porto set up by protesters denouncing the housing crisis.
18:25In this context, dozens of officers raided the camps set up in Rocio Square with the aim of dispersing the
18:32protests.
18:33At least six people were arrested for refusing to comply with orders to disperse.
18:38These actions escalated into clashes, resulting in 30 people being injured, leading to calls for a new protest this Sunday.
18:54In Poland, demonstrators gathered outside the Constitutional Court in Warsaw as a political void over judicial control escalates into a
19:03state crisis.
19:04Former Prime Minister Mateus Morawiki joined protesters to demand a vote of confidence and a full reset of the court
19:14warning of severe threats to state institutions.
19:17The conflict pits the current countries' pro-EU government against nationalist opposition forces over the appointment of senior judges.
19:26The standoff has triggered deep paralysis, exposing growing institutional fractures and political instability inside the European nation.
19:44The situation in Poland right now is not normal.
19:49We see it as something that is leading to the destabilization of our country.
19:55And we cannot allow ourselves to be treated this way in Poland, to the point of being humiliated by our
20:04own country's authorities,
20:08where we cannot live normal lives or have normal education in schools.
20:15We cannot count on our government's help in any situation.
20:22In France, over 70,000 police officers were deployed nationwide as authorities enforced strict curfews in Paris to suppress ongoing
20:31social protests.
20:32French security forces mounted heavy patrols across the capital enforcing nightly curfews in central Paris and restricting the movement of
20:41unaccompanied minors.
20:42The massive police operation comes after weeks of national-wide demonstrations driven by rising housing costs, educational decayed and severe
20:51economic hardship.
20:52Human rights organizations and social movements have criticized the state's militarized response,
20:58arguing that government curfews aim to criminalize youth and silence working class demands for economic justice.
21:26The Senegalese capital welcomed the world on Saturday as the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games officially opened with a spectacular
21:34ceremony.
21:34Celebrating African culture and marking the first Olympic event ever held on the continent.
21:40Thousands of the spectators gathered at the Abdoulaye Wale Stadium in Diamniadio, where more than 1,100 performers brought Senegalese
21:49and African traditions to the stage through dance, music, percussion and artistic displays.
21:54The ceremony also featured a parade of participating nations highlighting the diversity of young athletes taking part in the Games.
22:03Senegalese President Bassiro Diomae Faye officially declared the competition open,
22:09while two local athletes, Spencer Abduramane Mariem Said and Judoka Aisha Diop, lead the Olympic cauldron.
22:17The Games rolled through November 13, bringing together young athletes from around the world.
22:29For years we have talked about this moment, the first Olympic sporting event on African soil and now here we
22:42are.
22:47This historic moment is for Senegal and for Africa and for our entire Olympic movement.
22:58I proclaim the fourth Summer Youth Olympic Games open in Dakar.
23:07Thousands of Filipinos gathered at Manila Cemetery this Sunday to honor their departed loved ones,
23:15carrying on the annual tradition of All Saints Day.
23:18Volunteers and organizers manage the continuous flow of visitors at main entry points,
23:23ensuring order as families filled into the grounds with flowers and offerings.
23:28For generations the holiday has served as a vital family reunion,
23:32with relative gathering across the capital to keep vigil and maintain deep community ties.
23:37The annual gathering reflects an enduring cultural legacy, strengthening social cohesion,
23:43as working class families pay tribute to past generations.
23:53And with this information we have come to the end of this news brief.
