00:00hey boomer hey good morning victory monday once again and i guess happy birthday is in order for
00:06you too greg is that right we're not we're not talking about that boomer why not because it's
00:1060 years and gone in the blink of an eye you know i was told this the other day that
00:17you were six i
00:17thought you were older than me i don't know why but i thought i mean i'm five years older than
00:24you
00:24and i'm thinking damn i thought he was 70 well you for for many of those years you were on
00:30the
00:30performing uh performance enhancement stuff so i think you're uh you're better off than i am
00:37yeah by the way i got i did get a skin tightener last week for my face so okay it
00:42looks good back
00:43isn't that what they call it courtney is that what it is yes yeah a little face okay a little
00:46nip and
00:47tuck yeah a little pull back whatever you want to call it well something happened uh when when this
00:53team came out for the second half yesterday boomer yeah well listen uh drake may happened uh he had a
00:59terrific second half and you know this is using his legs to make explosive plays and you know this
01:06this team's been beat up there's no question about it i thought their defense uh played exceptionally
01:10well in the second half is as as on top of all of that and uh when drake plays like
01:15this and you
01:16could tell yesterday there were a couple times he wanted to throw the ball and he pulled it back
01:21and then threw it to somebody else's second or third receiver as he was stepping up through the
01:25pocket so he's very aware of some of the mistakes he's made this year and i you can see it
01:31you can
01:31see it in the game so when he plays like this and you know they get the explosive plays that
01:36they got
01:36yesterday they're going to be they're going to be tough to beat but i will say and i will just
01:40caution
01:41that you know the hard part of their schedule is coming now and i think like five out of the
01:46next six
01:47games they're going to be playing potentially playoff teams themselves and you know they have
01:52to take that trip i think to munich in a couple weeks against the lions so it's going to be
01:56it's
01:57this is where the season's real is going to get real now for them and and we'll find out after
02:01these
02:02next six games where they sit and just how good they are mike rabel continues to seem to be very
02:08willing to go for it on fourth down yes he does uh he's kind of like dan campbell i think
02:14you know
02:15it was it was interesting i was actually at the bengal uh tennessee titan game yesterday for the
02:20ring of honor ceremony i had one of my former teammates went into the ring of honor for the
02:24bengals james brooks and it was amazing just watching the game and watching how these coaches
02:30manage these games now and you know back in my day third and two fourth and two you were either
02:37punting or kicking a field goal and the first guy that really was the aggressive guy on fourth down
02:43from my recollection was bill parcells when he was with the giants he would always go for it on fourth
02:48down or it seemed like he would go for it a lot on fourth down nowadays it's just a part
02:53of the game
02:53it's a part of being aggressive it's a part of keeping the ball away from uh the opposing team's
02:58offense you're playing defense with your offense under those circumstances and i just you know the way
03:04the rules are guys everything is skewed offensively everything so whether it be a legal contact
03:12uh defensive holding interference uh you know any sort of play like that by the defense is going to
03:19lead to an offensive first down so i do think coaches take that into account and why wouldn't
03:25you especially if you're the better team and you feel like you can move off their defensive line
03:30boom after watching that game yesterday and wrote it i was like all right this is a game that it
03:35looks
03:35like the the patriots team and i don't like this but i can understand that uh coming being in that
03:40position they just went out there and kind of were on cruise control going like all right we're
03:45playing against a team that has one win and um it almost bit them in the ass but i felt
03:50like
03:50mentally they just weren't ready for this game well isn't like miami i it's always been a tough place
03:57for them to play for some reason no matter who's playing quarterback no matter who's coaching
04:01and i think that kind of showed itself in the first half yesterday so whatever mike
04:06frable said at halftime obviously struck a nerve because it looked like a completely different team
04:10and the only thing that really pisses me off is i actually had the patriots plus you know and i
04:15and
04:16i laid the seven points and we got a backdoor cover here and that's this thing that really ticks me
04:20off
04:21but um at the at the end of the day they don't care about that they just care about wins
04:25and their
04:25second half was i i think indicative of whatever the coach said at halftime or somebody said
04:31something i don't know if it was one of the team leaders i doubt it was drake but somebody said
04:36something because they were completely different team in the second half so uh they're going to need
04:40to play that that way for four quarters now over the next five to six games and their defense has
04:46got
04:46to get healthy uh they need to get a full complement of their offensive players i mean you know to
04:52be at
04:52this point right now at five and three and essentially we're halfway through the season um now comes the real
04:58part of that season really where you want to pick up your game and you want to take the momentum
05:03into
05:03the playoffs so um i mean you got the packers the lions the chargers are you know basically done
05:09the bills the vikings and the chiefs that's not that's not an easy run here for the next five to
05:15six
05:15weeks boomer you bring up health it seems like the injuries just continue to hit this patriots team
05:20how impressed have you been with drake and his ability to adjust with guys coming in and going out
05:25and how hard is it for a quarterback to have to do that great quarterbacks are players uh who make
05:31other players better and i think jermaine wiggins can tell you that if you play with a great quarterback
05:37he'll make you into an all pro well you know i made brady so if you play with a stiff
05:42back there
05:43you're screaming and yelling that you're not getting the ball so uh that's that's really what drake is
05:48supposed to do when you're that high of a draft pick and you had the season you had last year
05:52and now
05:52all of a sudden you started to come back into your own this year and by the way i was
05:55thinking about
05:56this and i don't know if you guys think the same way courtney i i think the lack of preparation
06:01in
06:02the preseason the lack of playing games in the preseason ends up biting a lot of these guys in
06:07the butt because they just don't get into any sort of rhythm and now it's taken a while for drake
06:11to
06:12get here where he is now but that's the true mark of a great quarterback is making players around you
06:18great and i think he's on his well on his way of doing that of course and we've seen that
06:23so the
06:24injuries you know hit him he doesn't really have a.j brown uh for for this entire season and demario
06:30douglas comes out of nowhere and that's exactly the type of player or quarterback that you're hoping
06:35for a.j brown played a bunch of snaps against the jets four weeks out of the high ankle sprain
06:43then he had the thursday night game against the bears and now he's out for the foreseeable future
06:48at least this past game and i don't think it sounds great we'll talk you know we'll figure out what
06:52happens going forward but did they mismanage a.j brown and his return for that high ankle sprain
06:57i don't think so i mean i i had high ankle sprains when i played i'm sure jermaine did too
07:03they
07:03probably treated us a little bit different than they treat the players today they are so careful
07:07about these players especially the high priced wide receivers and the the real talented defensive
07:13backs if there's anything wrong with them they usually don't put them on the field and it really
07:18comes down to the player and whether or not he feels like he can go and he can give it
07:21a hundred
07:22percent and i would imagine that a.j is feeling a ton of pressure to play because of you know
07:28all
07:28the hoopla surrounding the trade and getting him here and his relationship with mike ravel so maybe he
07:35didn't help himself by making the decision to put him out there but high uncle sprains are really hard
07:39to come back from i mean they're usually eight to ten week kind of injuries and he tried to i
07:45think he
07:45tried to push it myself so again i don't go and say that it's the patriots issue i think it's
07:50more of a
07:51player issue that probably put pressure on himself to get back out on the field boomer speaking of the
07:56players today what do you what did you make of ollie gordon yelling at his head coach and others yesterday
08:02it's not a good look man it's just not a good look i mean players did this all the time
08:06and we we had
08:08garrett wilson here at the jets do it last week to rex ryan's son who's the wide receiver coach for
08:13the jets and you know everybody's frustrated especially when your team is losing and you know
08:19people just basically kind of just lose it on the sidelines so it's not like it hasn't happened before
08:25it will continue to happen i don't necessarily know the players are much different today than
08:29when i was playing simply because everybody is so ratcheted up and everybody's emotions are running
08:35so high that when they are frustrated they usually have to take it out on somebody and unfortunately
08:40if it's a head coach that player may not find himself on the field now the interesting thing
08:44yesterday is that clink kubiak for the raiders actually pulled a john harbaugh so john harbaugh a
08:51couple weeks ago did not give the ball to cam scadaboo because he kept fumbling so he wanted to make
08:56a
08:56point and he didn't end up giving him the ball fans were ticked off the giants lost the tune to
09:01new orleans the next week they go out and cam scadaboo is the lead running back he has all the
09:06carries and they go out and beat a houston team that nobody expected them to beat i think clink kubiak
09:10did that with ashton jenty yesterday because ashton jenty during the week was talking all sorts of smack
09:16against the jet defense so yesterday he sets the tone doesn't give him the ball at all he makes a
09:21couple
09:21plays but doesn't have any running or rushing attempts or maybe one or two of them and that's
09:26a that's how coaches can hold players accountable by making examples out of them so i wouldn't i
09:33wouldn't i wouldn't be shocked if jeff halfley did that uh to the miami running back question of the
09:39week for boomers brought to you by mcfarland energy rob gronkowski will be inducted into the
09:44patriots hall of fame here at gillette this upcoming weekend where do you rank him all time
09:49at the position oh my god his size and his ability to to make the catches he made i i
09:57think he's
09:57probably he would go down in the tight end world as the most difficult cover in the history of the
10:03nfl uh you know he and brady had so many special games together and had a special relationship on the
10:09field you could see it um i who've ever seen a six foot seven guy running down the field and
10:15and
10:16twisting and turning his body so by far the most difficult cover i believe at the tight end
10:22position uh would i say he's the number one tight end of all time i i you could make an
10:27argument for
10:27that he's definitely a top three tight end of all time and uh nobody does it better the patriots when
10:33they when they put somebody into that hall of fame and that red jacket looks pretty sweet and he's
10:37certainly deserving of it wait you'll get it one day one day we'll keep wishing uh the game of the
10:43week was that chiefs broncos game incredible ending it at mile high uh harrison butker missed
10:49the kick they obviously brought in justin tucker what do you what did you make of the chiefs decision
10:54to bring justin tucker in and will the drumbeat grow to have him replace butker as the kicker of
10:59the chiefs going forward i i think at the end of the day all anybody wants to do is win
11:03and they'll
11:03put anybody out there no matter what the allegations are against them i mean we've seen that with green
11:08bay and josh jacobs and now we see more allegations coming out against him uh you know justin tucker
11:14has basically paid a significant price both in reputation and in financial uh stake he's one of
11:20the greatest kickers of all time i just goes to show you just how competitive these teams are and just
11:27how you know maybe maybe it was something to help harrison butker get better but yesterday he misses an
11:33easy kick that ends up costing the the chiefs the game and that game was an amazing game because
11:38you know in the division denver's trying to get over the hump and in order to for them to get
11:43over
11:43the hump they have to beat patrick mahomes and andy reed and they did that and they did that by
11:48keeping them out of the end zone at the end of the game so i i wouldn't be surprised if
11:52they activate
11:53uh justin tucker it depends on how he's kicking obviously we don't know that we're not in practice
11:58but uh i think there is a short fuse right now for harrison butker and it's unfortunate because he
12:04like adam beneterry for you guys is one of their if not be their their best kicker in the history
12:10of
12:10their franchise so i know they had jan center root out there but man harrison's kicked so many good
12:15kicks or big kicks for them that if they decide to make a change you know it's going to reverberate
12:20throughout the nfl the fan bases and everybody's going to have a obviously a most likely a negative
12:26opinion about it you brought up the chargers is justin herbert falling in love a real problem
12:31uh it must have been something's going on there i can't just i can't blame it all on him i
12:36just can't
12:37because he gets the crap beat out of him every week um and i you know i put that on
12:41the coach's
12:42feet and you know i like jim harbaugh as a coach and as a former quarterback i can't even imagine
12:47what
12:48he must think of justin herbert privately you know you're not you're not going to hear anything
12:53negatively uh in in the public domain in regards to the comments coming from jim harbaugh regarding
12:59his quarterback but there are things that quarterbacks can do and that have to overcome
13:04and you know justin is just not overcoming any of it and which is really sad because they're paying
13:09him so much money to be able to overcome some of the shortcomings kind of like we were just
13:13talking about drake may and i i don't know what the chargers are going to do what's going to be
13:18really interesting now is the next week the final week before the trade deadline we've already had
13:22seven trades a lot of big ones i wouldn't be surprised if we see four or five you know in
13:27the next couple days here uh i know wide receivers are on the dock i know that there are offensive
13:32linemen that potentially could be traded so keep your eyes open for guys like you know coming from
13:39from the chargers you know from miami from a lot of these teams with losing records and of course
13:44the jets here in new york all right boom i'm going to put you on the spot a little bit
13:48because i know
13:49how important this next you know six week stretches but it's really five games that we're looking at
13:54with those five games green bay the lions the bills the vikings and the chiefs where do you see the
14:01patriots after it's all said and done after those games um and record wise all right so the chargers
14:08are in the middle of that too so let's go to the next six games so let's go to the
14:12next six games
14:12if they can go four and two that would be huge and you know i i think they're a thorn
14:18in the bill
14:18side i really do i think if they can beat the bills and knock them off twice this season they
14:23can win the division if the playoff started today the patriots i think would be in the seventh spot
14:27which mean they would have to go to denver in the first round of the playoff so i i think
14:32four and two
14:33in these next six and remember you know at the beginning of the year i told you guys i thought
14:36they
14:36were a 10 to 11 win seat a team um these are really tough teams you know the vikings are
14:41are going to be
14:42a pain in the ass that the chiefs at the chiefs that's not going to be easy they got a
14:46lot of
14:46prime time games coming up they have so they got they have to go they have to go to munich
14:51that's a
14:51prime time game although it's 9 30 a.m in the morning and then they have a 4 25 game
14:57against the
14:57bills and then an 8 15 game against the vikings and then an 8 15 game against the chiefs we're
15:02going
15:02to see a lot of the patriots and you know in the one game window so i think four and
15:09two over the next
15:10six would be realistic because i think their defense should be able to keep them in all these
15:14games and the fact that they have the packers and lions at home is going to be a huge boom
15:18for them
15:18because the lions outside are a little bit different and the packers you know while they're getting
15:23healthy i don't know if michael parsons will be playing yet that that should be like next week
15:28should really be an interesting game um with jordan love playing the way he's playing and drake may the
15:33way he's playing all right boomer great job as always you've earned yourself a handcuffed selly on the way
15:38out if you'd like to do it all right well you and i can laugh about it but a couple
15:42other people can't
15:43so anyway that's right have a great week guys and i'll see you next week
