00:10is going to be asked a million questions about his starting quarterback and i think that's probably
00:14where we should start this morning well i was going to say talk us down off the ledge but
00:19unfortunately many have already jumped so it's a little late for that um yeah i it seems like
00:26drake may has completely lost any and all playmaking availability uh ability whatsoever like
00:34why how does that happen boomer you know it's really hard to say it's uh it's got to be a
00:40psychological thing and he's got a he's got to be held accountable somehow and i don't think they'll
00:46do it but i i would make him sit this week i mean that's how bad it's gotten and it's
00:51and it's been
00:52bad since last uh postseason and we all know it we all see it uh the interception of travis hunter
00:58was mind-blowing to me especially after the interceptions that he has thrown in the previous
01:03two games and you know so much of our position comes down to the decisions we make when we have
01:11a ball in our hand now a lot of those decisions are made pre-snap read you hit your back

01:16throw it you're accurate and everything looks smooth but then every now and again a play you
01:22know breaks down you have a pass rusher coming in you have a blitz you're dealing with and whatever
01:27you or how you react to that is going to determine how good you are and last year drake may
01:34for
01:35whatever reason was able to react to these things in real time and he did what most quarterbacks are
01:40responsible for and that was protect the football don't give it away especially when you're in the
01:46red zone and this has now been habitual for him for about seven games going back to last year
01:52and that would concern me you know i like the kid i think he's a really good guy i think

01:57wants to learn i know he feels like crap i know he's probably getting no sleep right now
02:02because he feels like he's letting the team down and then the other psychological part of this
02:08is like what's going on within the team itself what are players saying you know on the plane ride
02:14back what are players saying to their family members what are players saying you know in their
02:19little clicks in the locker room and that's where you know the coaches really got to step up and if
02:25they're going to stick with them this week you know at buffalo good luck with that um i would just
02:30say
02:31that mike brable has got to get everybody else to really get on board here and support their quarterback
02:37and i know most of the players at least most of the players that i've seen interviewed after this
02:42game in particular you know didn't want to really blame drake may they wanted to take it on themselves
02:47which is a healthy attitude to have within the locker room but we all see it you don't have to
02:52be a
02:52genius you don't have to be an ex-quarterback and that's why i think if you really want to do
02:58something drastic maybe you make him sit on the sideline for this game to make him realize
03:03that his decisions are going to cost them a hell of a lot of money and a long career
03:07on that on that pick he threw in the end zone that you were talking about uh tommy cutlet said

03:14after the game that he feels like drake may be trusting that things that work in practice like
03:21that uh are not gonna work are going to work in a game and then they aren't is that a

03:27happens yeah it could be but i think if i were you know tommy devito i wouldn't say anything i

03:32just keep my head down and be the backup quarterback and do whatever is asked of me
03:36and try not to explain the problems that drake has even though he's the closest player to him
03:42and he's around him every day and he's in the meeting rooms i really like tommy when tommy was
03:47here with the giants it was a great story and he really knew what his role was the role of
03:53the
03:53backup quarterback is not to try to explain what the starting quarterback is going through the role
03:58of the backup quarterback is to be there to be supportive to keep his mouth shut and to play
04:03when asked to play so i would just be careful if i were tommy trying to go down this road
04:08i mean we all see it it's hard to explain his confidence is probably shaken i saw his postgame
04:15press conference yesterday and i'm like this is not the same guy from last year there's something
04:19going on here and i know there's a conversation about the offensive coordinator josh mcdaniels again i will
04:26go back and i will say it over and over and over again this is one of the most accomplished
04:31coaches
04:32in the history of the league as an assistant coach not as a star as a head coach we all
04:37know that but
04:38as an assistant coach he has been one of the best if not the greatest offensive coordinator given his
04:44success with tom brady and some other quarterbacks as well so whatever is going on with drake may
04:51maybe maybe a timeout if you will uh is is needed here to get him to realize that the decision
04:59he is
04:59making right now is costing his team dearly and he has unfortunately turned himself into public enemy
05:06number one in a very short period of time and i feel like we're kind of going down the mac
05:11road uh mac
05:12jones road once again with the patriots don't say it don't say it it may be worse than that
05:18worse yesterday worse than that boomer you've been in the position of a quarterback i think one thing
05:25that we talk about here is you know yes he's still young but i think he's seen enough football
05:31in the sense of he shouldn't be making these horrible horrible bonehead decisions what do you think
05:39is leading to that because these are decisions that he's making that you you generally see a rookie
05:47make who doesn't have much playing time under his belt yeah i know uh it is really jermaine it's really
05:53hard to understand what he's going through right now i i don't necessarily know that i ever went through
05:57anything quite as bad as this i know that there are there are going to be ebbs and flows with
06:04confidence
06:05you know he's got a good team around him he's got a good coaching staff around him
06:08you know normally i would say you know you have to take into account all the things that are
06:13happening around a quarterback and then how he reacts to those negative things he's supposed to
06:18be pulling the team out of the abyss not putting them into the abyss i mean that that's part of
06:24his
06:24responsibility as well i mean i don't know if this is psychological i i mean i i've never seen anything
06:31like this i mean i guess mac jones was part part and part like this uh at a point but
06:37this kid was
06:37an mvp last year an mvp candidate and went to the freaking super bowl and i know the schedule and
06:44all
06:44of that that's fine but what he is doing right now mike bravell has got to hold him accountable
06:50somehow it's like aliens do that it's like aliens came in and erased his brain i'm like i don't it's
06:57so weird it's like that super bowl held on in his brain that's what it's like it's just uh it's
07:05inexplainable i don't understand it unless there's something going on in his personal life that we
07:09don't know about that i don't really you know that's that's none of my business but i i doubt it
07:13doesn't seem like it seems like he's a pretty straight-laced kid somebody that you could really
07:17trust but these decisions again i go back to where where's mike bravell coming uh from this
07:24and you know i'm sure that bob craft and jonathan craft probably have their points of view and they're
07:29going to be giving you know uh maybe some i don't know gentle nudge to mike bravell about what are
07:35we
07:35going to do here with this quarterback and i i i think that the team is probably lost some confidence
07:43in him i they may say that they believe in him but you know that their family members are saying
07:49to them at home what is drake may doing he's killing you guys so the team is hearing it from
07:55probably within the building as well but they're also hearing it outside of the building from the
08:01people in their lives which makes it even more difficult for them to trust drake may unless he comes
08:08out with a game next week and they somehow go into buffalo and beat josh allen in their new stadium
08:14that would be the thing that would maybe kickstart or restart his season on that topic how much does it
08:21sort of fall flat for your teammates when you're the quarterback and you're playing like the worst
08:25quarterback in the nfl and you blame blood on a football for a fumble and you don't really appear
08:30to take full accountability yeah i mean look uh you know i played in the era where we weren't allowed
08:35to manipulate the footballs i had brand new balls right out of the box and those things were slippery
08:40they were greasy and it was always an argument phil sims and i would have that it took tom brady

08:46peyton manning back in 2006 or 7 to convince roger goodell that they can make these footballs as brown as
08:52they could and make them as throwable as they possibly could to make sure that the game was growing and

08:58passing game was growing and the statistics were growing and then when you hear a quarterback in this day
09:04and age say what jerry said yesterday i'm like are you out of your mind are you out of your
09:09mind to
09:10say something like that even if it were true i mean you got to stand up there and you have
09:15to take it
09:15you have to absorb all the criticism all the questions and you have to do what jordan loved it
09:21after thursday night's game when they got drilled by atlanta in green bay in their home opener
09:26take full accountability i have to play better i need to be the leader i need to do things better
09:31for
09:31myself and that's what leaders do leaders don't stand up and say well you know there was some
09:37blood on the on the ball and the ball slipped out of my hands whether it's true or not you
09:42don't say
09:42that because look how we are reacting to that ridiculous excuse for a poor pass the poor pass
09:49comes from the brain not from the hand boomer another issue they had yesterday were the penalties
09:55when you talk about coaching does that start with coaching those nine penalties and what it cost
09:59them yesterday and how do you fix it 100 corny it's always about coaching you know this is where
10:06the coaches uh you know have to get they they have their own accountability where you know fans will
10:11be saying that the team is undisciplined and when you lose the way that they lost yesterday which
10:16by far maybe maybe green bay was a little bit worse because green bay you know had their home opener
10:21on thursday night and they got blasted by the falcons this was probably the second worst loss of the
10:25weekend i actually thought that the patriots would bounce back with their defense but the penalties
10:30the turnovers you know these are all negative plays and the more negative plays you have the more apt you
10:36are to get beat and when you when you sync them up together the way that the patriots did yesterday
10:41that leads to a blowout so i i mean there's going to be some soul searching in that building i

10:47think that practice is going to be tough this week and i still say if they really wanted to do
10:51something to like you know blow the kind of thing up that they're dealing with right now
10:57i would consider starting tommy devito i would i would i would say you're going to sit here drake
11:02you're going to watch and you're going to understand exactly what we're trying what we're trying to do
11:06on offense because what you the performance you've given us the last three weeks is just not good
11:12enough boomer if you go if you go down that road and let's say tommy devito has a really good

11:19and you're able to you know play tough against buffalo maybe you don't beat them what then
11:23happens moving forward the do you run the risk of opening the pandora's box of quarterback
11:31controversy for the guy you drafted number four or three overall well you know the nfl is a meritocracy
11:39most times uh players who play better normally find their way on the field somehow some way it is the
11:45quarterback position so i know that there's extra scrutiny that is added to that position
11:50i mean but at this point looking at the just the decisions it's one thing if a ball is tipped
11:56at the
11:56line of scrimmage it's another thing if a ball goes through the wide receiver's hands and it's tipped up
12:02in the air and the safety comes and picks it off it's another thing when a quarterback arbitrarily just
12:08heaves the ball in the general vicinity of a wide receiver in the red zone and that leads to a
12:15turnover and essentially takes points off the boards especially a 14 point play so i you know
12:21look jermaine you and i played a long time we know what the significance of a starting quarterback is
12:26you know maybe they got rid of joe milton a few years ago because everybody in the building
12:30just saw how explosive of an athlete he was maybe not a great quarterback but just maybe
12:35the athletic explosiveness was so breathtaking that they had to get him out of the building because they
12:41had this third overall draft pick um you know there there has to be a time where the men in
12:47the
12:47building have to hold other men accountable and if it takes tommy devito starting and tommy devito
12:54let's say winning a game in buffalo then he's starting the next game i'm sorry this is supposed to be
13:00a meritocracy regardless of the realities of the sport and the position i don't like advocating
13:07for stuff like this but this has gotten so bad now that i think there needs to be a just
13:12a general
13:13wake-up call for for uh you know drake may i i for some reason it's not clicking right now

13:34the car wash game at sullivan stadium i mean nobody could see anything that day and i think we won
13:39sixth or nine to nothing or something i have no idea uh what i do remember about that game it

13:44was either three or four inches of rain it started as when when the first kickoff uh was kicked off
13:50and
13:50went all the way through the end of the game so this giant tennessee game was under those conditions
13:56although it was on synthetic turf it wasn't on the mud that was sullivan's field back then or sullivan
14:02stadium um so i want to give him another week um his his arm looks a little weak looks erratic
14:09but he's not nearly as erratic as cam ward who is just mind-blowingly bad i mean that's my i
14:17can't
14:18even explain to you what i'm watching what i'm watching him i mean his balls aren't even close to
14:23his open wide receivers i mean every now and again he'll complete a pass and he has this laissez-faire
14:29attitude on the field that just drives me nuts his his quarterback fundamentals are horrendous
14:35and just because he's six foot four and he can throw the ball you know 100 yards doesn't mean
14:40you could play in this league so i think tennessee's got a real problem and i wouldn't be surprised to
14:44see the giants sign maybe two backup quarterbacks of significance either they trade for one or maybe
14:51they bring jimmy g back that's uh been a storyline down here for about the last 10 days i don't

14:56know if that guy wants to play football anymore but if he did i i would think the giants would
15:01probably give him a look as well boomer i know it's still early in the season here but you know
15:06how we are as pats fans when you look at the afc what are the teams like that really stand
15:13out and
15:13when you kind of look at kind of the hierarchy hierarchy of this afc um conference well to me
15:21it has to be the chiefs the bills i mean the jaguars showed me something yesterday i didn't
15:29think they were that good um i i'm still not going to put the raiders there baltimore can score on
15:35anybody you know pittsburgh had a hell of a win yesterday against cincinnati but i think overall
15:41kansas city buffalo and cincinnati are still the three best teams and i have to say i don't know about
15:46you guys you probably didn't watch it last night i did i stayed up like an idiot and uh this

15:51by denver last night was unbelievable and to see matthew stafford throw key interceptions late in the
15:57game to cost his team the game i have to say maybe denver will get something out of this as
16:03well so
16:03it's still you know it's wide open the one thing i will say guys the jets are better the jets
16:09are
16:09i would say 90 percent better than they were last year even though they lost the game in detroit
16:14yesterday they are a much better team and maybe even the cleveland browns are better than we we've
16:20given them credit for because the sean watson now has had two really good games back to back and they've
16:24won two in a row for the first time and who the hell knows how long well the unfortunately the
16:30hopes
16:30and dreams of an entire region rest on the red sox boomers so um well we will see tomorrow you

16:37as i told you i'm a mets fan but you know just because i'm selfish and and i need ratings
