00:00hey boomer oh well it's not a victory monday good morning guys kind of sad but you know what
00:05uh a very valuable learning lesson for a young patriots team well we love i absolutely love our
00:11christmas gifts but i will this has boomer jenks written all over it i mean we get them we get them
00:18in the mail and they're they're beautiful but they say but they say victory monday monday right
00:23across and then here we are talking about a loss this morning so yeah but a very valuable loss the
00:28way i look at it just the way you got you got to see this thing i mean uh they had a great first
00:33half and then all of a sudden the kickoff return and wiggy knows this a couple momentum plays here
00:38and there and all of a sudden the momentum is impossible to stop but really what it teaches
00:43drake may and everybody else is that when you are playing somebody like josh allen and you do have
00:49the bills who you know do have a lot of pride man you got to play four quarters i mean the amount of
00:54games yesterday there were actually seven teams that won after trailing by at least nine points
01:00in week 15 and that was most in a single week in nfl history so what didn't it wasn't just the
01:05patriots that happened to there were there were six other teams that happened to from your perspective
01:10that loss yesterday here is that more on what josh allen was able to do in the second half josh allen
01:17of the bills or uh more on what the patriots were unable to do because they look like two different
01:23teams first half to second half so i kept saying to myself okay drake this is your tom brady moment
01:28this is your tom brady moment especially late in the fourth quarter and it just didn't happen for him
01:34and you know it's uh it's a learning experience for the young man he's had a great season he's going
01:39to have a he's going to finish off strong i have a i believe i believe they're going to win
01:43their division and then they're going to have to go on the road somewhere along the line to win a
01:47playoff game if they want to get to the super bowl so sometimes losses like this are great teaching
01:52moments that's again that's i feel very strongly about that and i would imagine mike variable is
01:57going to use that and i'm sure he's going to use that uh ad nauseum this week it's going to be a tough
02:02week of practice nobody's taking anything for granted but uh like i said it's just it's josh allen for
02:08sure but also that buffalo defense actually got a lot better in the second half
02:12boomer when you look at the game yesterday if you're sitting there watching it for me i felt
02:17like they took their foot off the gas a little bit in the second half i don't know what you saw
02:23um is that something that you saw or did you just see buffalo just obviously they outplayed them but
02:28did it look like new england new england took their foot off the gas yeah i you know it uh it starts
02:34with that long kickoff return in the second half and then all of a sudden the offense sputters a little
02:39bit uh they don't gain first downs they don't hold on to the football and if you know if it wasn't for
02:44the long run by henderson you know this thing could have gotten even uglier but um you know it's just
02:50football's a weird game they say it's week to week in this league and and it certainly isn't to have a
02:5510 game winning streak and you know and to try to carry that on that's that's a lot of pressure and
03:00you know the buffalo bills are fighting for their lives so i it's not like they lost to the new
03:06orleans saints or the new york jets or somebody like that i mean they lost to a top team in the
03:11nfl and it was a revenge game for them they had everything on the line yesterday and they stepped
03:17up and josh allen was superman but again i think i think it really goes back to the buffalo defense
03:22i thought the buffalo defense played a lot better in the second half and there were a couple throws
03:27there were a couple like three or four plays where drake may and the offense are able to make those
03:32plays maybe they stem some of that momentum in the second half but they were incapable of doing
03:37that and that's why sitting there yesterday watching this going okay drake come on this is
03:41your tom brady moment this is your tom brady moment and unfortunately for him in this game at least
03:45that moment uh didn't arise for him boomer a homer take and one that i hate to do but uh the
03:52officiating in this one is there any blame on the officials for changing the momentum here at all
03:58every week we talk about this and it's it's an impossible game to officiate and there's nothing
04:05worse than a bad call or a call that goes the wrong way or somebody that sees something that after we
04:11watch it on replay didn't happen um i wouldn't you know cordy i i i hate doing that because i just i
04:19still think that both teams benefit and they they also end up you know losing a call here or there
04:26as well so i i i can't blame the officials it wasn't the first thing that i thought up uh when
04:31i when i watched the game yesterday well yeah but somebody has to explain to me how a player like
04:36marcus jones can intercept the football yeah and then be flagged for pass interference like i mean
04:42he caught the ball and they didn't catch the ball i i it's it's it's like what was the first time i've
04:50ever seen that so i mean but i can say that every week every week if you watch these games every week
04:57there's something that happens for the first time you know it was the ravens the week before against
05:01pittsburgh was they uh was it isaiah likely was that a touchdown was it not a touchdown we all thought
05:07it was a touchdown they said it wasn't a touchdown i i mean so every week we have calls like this which
05:14is actually befuddling to all of us uh boomer josh allen uh apparently throws up uh before and and
05:22oftentimes during every game i was told by your producers same thing happens after you do this
05:27interview was that true uh yeah actually i do yeah and you know what it is it's something about you
05:33guys i don't know it's called the stomach virus we give noro uh boomer you've been talking a lot
05:41about drake may and we've been you know obviously he's the biggest story for me coming out of that
05:45one against josh allen five for 12 in the second half should have been two interceptions the play
05:50that poyer dropped was a horrific throw and in the fourth quarter one for four yeah passing i i are
05:57you concerned at all that the elements may be an issue for drake may in new england i'm not i'm not
06:03he had he had an off he had an off half that's basically what it was you know and it was a weird
06:07game for him because he ran in two touchdowns and most quarterbacks don't do that it's great that
06:13he's capable of doing that it's great that josh mcdaniels calls plays for him to do that
06:18but uh you know it's like a weird game like his passing statistics were very very average but he
06:24ran in two touchdowns i i don't necessarily know that he ever felt comfortable in the fourth quarter
06:28that's it i don't know if that's weather related or it was just uh it was just a momentum change
06:34that happened uh in the second half you know the other thing and i was talking about this last week
06:39and i always talk about how quarterbacks need to get themselves in the game and you guys have seen
06:44this for 20 years of tom brady you remember when he used to slam his helmet down on the sideline
06:49he used to you know get pissed off he'd throw the gatorade bucket he'd do a lot of different things
06:55and the reason he did that it wasn't like he was mad at bill belichick or josh mcdaniels or any of his
07:01players what he was trying to do is manufacture anger and emotion to get himself back into the
07:06game and it's something that a lot of people don't realize that you know sometimes you just
07:11kind of lose that edge in a game especially when you jump out to a big lead the way that the patriots
07:17did yesterday so like i said again a learning experience for drake may for sure because he's
07:22one of the youngest guys on the team but he should take a page out of tom brady's book when he gets
07:27into that second half malaise where it's almost looks like he's in a daze you know throw a helmet
07:33get pissed off you know yell at somebody you know get yourself going because that to me looks like
07:39they were a little flat uh especially in the fourth quarter that is this week's drake take from boomer
07:45presented by your new england chevy dealers together let's drive boomer you i think you've been saying
07:51this for a while about how drake may tense the hold of football and if you look at yesterday's game
07:55there are a couple opportunities in the pocket where he gets sacked by holding on to the football
08:01too long and obviously puts them in bad positions what what would you say to drake may in those
08:07situations just dirt it throw it out of bounds yeah if you can and don't take uh if you can and don't
08:13take a sack um you know yesterday watching kelly williams as well kelly had a great game against the
08:19browns yesterday and one of the things that he did do is that he wasn't holding on to the ball like he
08:24was dropping his back foot and letting it rip and you know that to me shows amazing progress you know
08:30i would say that drake looked a little bit hamstrung yesterday not meaning that his hamstrings were hurt
08:36but maybe his brain was in brain lock mode or something and it does happen to quarterbacks
08:40and sometimes we just hold on to the ball and these young guys it's the youthful inexperience of
08:47not realizing that you can live to play another day that's why guys like tom brady payton manning
08:52brett farve they would all take sacks or they would throw the ball away when they realized that
08:58something wasn't going to materialize downfield but that comes with time it comes with experience
09:03and if if you ask me about drake may's performance this year i give him an a plus
09:08yesterday you know probably a b minus if not a c uh especially with the second the second half but
09:15the first half he was drake may the guy that we know the guy that can move and run the second half
09:20was a guy that looked like he needed to get angry at somebody and get mad on the sideline and get a
09:25little bit of emotion going which unfortunately he did not boomer with mahomes going down yesterday
09:31was that the last time we're going to see he and travis kelsey out together on a field i would think
09:35so i would think that this is probably trap i feel like it's travis's last year i feel like this was
09:40the year that kansas city gave travis for all that he had done for that team you know what i mean like
09:45they they kept them this year uh you know they're going to have to retool around patrick mahomes i
09:50don't know when he's going to be back i mean it's just amazing that you know we're not going to have
09:54a playoff without uh we're going to have playoffs without patrick mahomes and joe burrow uh and by
10:01the way the bengals performance yesterday was like the midweek press conference that joe burrow had
10:07it's like the the entire team took on the personality of wednesday joe burrow just was having a melt
10:12mental meltdown well question of the week for boomer is brought to you by mcfarland energy the
10:18region's most dependable provider of home heating oil delivery and expert hvac services at mcfarland
10:25energy.com if you could on this one grandpa to grandpa uh what did you what did you what did
10:31you make of the performance of philip rivers i thought it was amazing i thought it was amazing
10:35but here's the story behind the story so philip i think has what 10 kids right uh it's up there yeah
10:42yeah it's either 10 or 11 i think it's i think it's 10 i think he also obviously he has a grand
10:46grand uh baby as well so uh he comes back to play five years after he's out of the league and if you're
10:55out of the league five years you lose your benefits you get five years of free benefits
10:59but if you come back that clock starts over again so now he gets his insurance benefits back for the
11:05next five years which are essentially free as an nfl player so
11:09hey listen for any of us who have kids know exactly what the hell he's doing yeah it's great
11:16he's playing but he got those benefits back that's pretty important yeah that's the most important
11:20was there anybody when you guys were talking about it that you thought the the call should have gone
11:25to before philip rivers i mean i i guess he's familiar with the offense and maybe that's all it is
11:30yeah well he runs the same offense for his high school football team and he does talk to shane
11:34steikin on a weekly basis i didn't know that um you know he didn't really throw the ball down the
11:40field i mean everything was like little screens behind the behind the line of scrimmage some little
11:45darts across the middle i mean threw a couple down the field he threw a great pass to alec pierce down
11:50the left sideline at the end of the game i mean i i was amazing that he was upright at the end of the
11:54game honestly is there any doubt that if tom wasn't a part owner of the raiders that he would have
12:00thought about coming back like rivers i 100 i mean you know i don't know about you guys but in all
12:06of his commercials he's throwing footballs i don't know if he's sending a message to people or not
12:10yeah but maybe i don't know but uh sure but you know what the amazing thing is when i see tom now on
12:15tv and i see matt ryan on tv they those guys look like they weigh 175 pounds yeah it really is true
12:24all right well um unlike you guys who collectively except for you courtney
12:29i'm getting up there with you guys you guys you guys that's why they call you guys a ton of fun
12:36this looks great wiki and i have let ourselves go
12:40no i'm down like 30 pounds 40 pounds don't try to put me in your category
12:44glp glp just keep saying that to yourself
12:49whatever whatever you got to do to get there boomer yes
12:53all right
