00:00What surprised my friends and family? The handcuffs under my bed? I'm just kidding.
00:05Hi, I'm Cynthia Papp. I'm here with Refinery29. Fun fact, my bedroom is
00:10actually my living room. Welcome to My Sweet Digs. I live in Culver City,
00:16California and I paid $17.50 for rent. I moved into the studio two months ago. My
00:21style is very mid-century and boho. I like to pull elements from my hometown in
00:28Newport. A lot of my colors are very neutral and very just earth tone. So the
00:35great thing about my studio is it's really broken up into rooms, so you
00:39probably won't catch me cooking in my bedroom. That'll be in the kitchen. So
00:46when you come in, you get to my entry table. This table actually is a
00:49multi-functional. It's from World Market. It can be used as a little mini desk. It
00:53can be used as an entry table. It can also be used to hold your food on top of your
00:56bed if you want just like a lazy Sunday in your bed. I am very guilty of eating
01:01food on my bed, especially after a long day. I just want to zone out. So yes, I'm
01:08very guilty of eating in my bed. And right on the wall, I have two of my favorite
01:12prints from my travels, Paris and Barcelona. I absolutely love them. Every time I
01:16travel, I try to get an artist's print. I have a ton of quirky items that I saved
01:20throughout the years. One of them being that I love to collect old alcohol bottles,
01:25most notably my little tequila bottle with my floral arrangement inside of it. Take a
01:30few steps and you get to my music center, which features my record player and my
01:34vinyls. I do have a few items that were passed down to me and those would be the
01:37records that came from my dad. He loves vinyl, so he gave me a few of his
01:41favorites. And on each side, you have my pompas and my vases, which were some of my
01:46favorite finds for this place. And I also have this beautiful graphic design print of
01:52Hank. My dog Hank is an eight month old Corgi puppy. He is my best friend. He's the
01:58sweetest dog. He's also very energetic. I have a ton of toys scattered around the
02:03room at almost all times so he can play and get his energy out. I cannot wait for
02:08him to get a little bit older, so that goes away. I love to listen to my records. It
02:12opens up to my entertainment center. I think the thing that would surprise my
02:17friends and family the most would be my TV. I'm a very avid reader. I don't really
02:21watch it much, but before I moved, my mom, she said, the one thing you might need is
02:26a TV. And I caved and I bought one and she still likes to say she was right every
02:32time she comes. From when I moved in, I have made some updates. I actually only got
02:37this couch a few weeks ago. I thought that I could do everything in my bed and
02:41then realized very quickly that that was not gonna work. So up here on my shelf, it's one of my
02:46favorite items on it. One of them in particular is this watercolor prints that
02:50this fashion illustrator did of me in Palm Springs. She did it in five minutes and I
02:54think it's just so pretty. And then over here, I have Post Malone's Rosé. So my
02:59Post Malone Rosé bottle that's sitting on the shelf is because I am probably his
03:06number one fan. All my friends know that it's a serious obsession and it has not
03:11gone away. So if I was to live in a space on my own without something Post Malone
03:15related, I think that would surprise my friends and family more than anything else.
03:19So over here in my dresser, I have my plant. I'm an aspiring plant mom, so I'm
03:23really trying to green up the space. I have some of my favorite books right
03:27below. And something that I did with all my pieces of furniture is that I changed
03:31the knobs, these gold knobs, so that it matches everything. And I also just love the
03:36look of gold hardware. Some of my favorite design tips, especially when putting my
03:39space together, is to create a cohesive color palette. So I made sure that mine
03:44was filled with neutrals and gold. I really advise against mixing metals in a
03:48space. My white and gold bar stools ties in everything with my bedroom. So I made
03:54sure that if I had any metals, even my picture frames, that they were gold. So I
03:58wanted to make sure that I added my own little flare to this. And here's my puppy.
04:04So speaking of my puppy, Hank, he sleeps here in this crate at night and then during the
04:09day, he sleeps under this bed, which is this memory foam bed that I got him. It
04:13perfectly matches the pillowcases that are on my bed. So it really helps to make
04:18sure that everything in my space matches.
04:23I also have a balcony. I do work from home in my bedroom. I am also very guilty of
04:30working on my patio. Then to my bed, where I like to get all cozy and go to sleep. My
04:36favorite part of my room would have to be my bed area. I think it's super cute and
04:43it's just the coziest part. So one of my favorite pieces that I've carried with me
04:47from year to year is this print on this piece of wood from Lugano. I studied abroad
04:52there. It's a little tiny city in Switzerland and I absolutely fell in love with the
04:56people and the culture and just the whole scenery of the place. So I love having
05:01this as a memory of my time there. So I have this wine bottle that looks like a cat that
05:05my best friend got me
05:06with that frame and I put it next to this pretty little plant. It's from Ikea. It's
05:11not real but I just love the idea of the gold going throughout the room. So one of
05:16my favorite movies is the Dead Poets Society with Robin Williams and one of my
05:20friends for my birthday got me this beautiful print from Etsy which is Robin
05:24Williams standing on the table giving the iconic speech about Carpe Diem that
05:28really just struck a chord with me in high school. These nightstands are also that
05:32mid-century modern look that I've carried throughout the room with the gold
05:36fixtures and the gold knob that I put on there just to keep that gold going. So
05:41here we have my bed. What I really love is that these pillows perfectly match
05:45Hink's day bed that's out on the floor so when you walk in you see it there's
05:49consistency all throughout. Another pro tip I have always get a blanket that's a few
05:55size bigger than your bed so when you're laying in bed you want to cuddle up and
05:58watch a movie you can get all cozy under a giant blanket. And then finally to my
06:04office. The desk itself is from Target. It's about a hundred dollars in absolute
06:07steel. I wanted to make sure that I had that same mid-century modern look as the
06:12rest of my furniture. I put the gold knob on it to create that gold cohesiveness
06:16that you see throughout. I'm such a fan of cycling so when all the studios closed
06:20down I knew that there was something I had to do so I can get my cycling fix in. So
06:25I
06:25got myself a Peloton. I had to put it away from my bed because if it was near my bed
06:31I think that would give me a little bit of FOMO because I'd want to lay in my bed
06:35instead of writing. Honestly one of the best purchases I've made the last few
06:40months I wake up every morning I walk my dog hop on for a 30 to 45 minute ride
06:44and then I go about my day. It helps mentally and physically get ready for the
06:48day that I have in front of me. Living on my own for the first time during a
06:53global pandemic has been a little difficult and challenging because you
06:56are really forced to be alone but honestly I love it. I never expected to
07:02like living alone. I was always very afraid of it but once I got the hang of
07:06it and got my routine down and I got settled I realized that it's such a
07:10blessing to be on my own with my dog and to have my own freedom to do whatever I
07:14want, whenever I want, without anyone telling me what to do.
07:23Thanks for watching my bedroom tour. Bye!
