00:00Hi. Hi, I'm Brianna. I'm Mike. And this is Goose. And welcome back to our sweet digs.
00:06We live on the border of Clinton Hill and Fort Greene and we pay $2,325 a month.
00:12We've been here for three and a half years and the rents only increased about $75 in that time, which
00:17isn't too bad.
00:18A lot has changed since you guys have last been here. We've done a lot of DIY projects around the
00:23house to kind of elevate our space.
00:25There's a lot of things that I wish were a little bit more updated, so we've tried to make it
00:30a bit more, what's the word I'm looking for?
00:32Less rough around the edges. Yeah, more elevated.
00:38And the best news is... We got a puppy. Named Goose.
00:45So this is our kitchen. When we first moved here, we painted the kitchen walls blue and swapped out the
00:51hardware.
00:52It looked 100% better, but we wanted to take that to the next level by getting rid of those
00:57ugly countertops that we had and doing something different with the backsplash.
01:01So we contact papered the countertops and it came out really nice, but we almost ended our six year relationship
01:08over it.
01:09Pretty close.
01:10Contact paper your, you know, your countertop. You just roll it on, it sticks, you're good to go.
01:14So, no. Not like that at all. You gotta cut it exactly the size. You stick it on, it's off
01:20a little bit here, then you gotta do it again.
01:23So I don't necessarily recommend it. I don't like the process, but the result is worth it? Maybe.
01:28Maybe if you're single, do it alone and you have no one to blame but yourself.
01:31The backsplash in our kitchen right now is the last project that we have to do.
01:37We have a temporary backsplash up so we can kind of see how it would look if we were to
01:42contact paper it.
01:43I would love to paint over the tiles, but since we are in a rental, we can't do something that
01:47we can't put back at the end when we leave.
01:49They probably wouldn't even notice, to be honest.
01:51They probably wouldn't notice.
01:57And this is the dog crate.
02:00The unit.
02:01That we're really proud of.
02:02We did not want a giant dog crate out in the house. We don't have a lot of space.
02:06I like to find a home for everything.
02:10Right? I knew that there would be a reaction.
02:12So we wanted something to hide the dog crate, but something else that we lack in the kitchen is additional
02:16counter space and storage.
02:17So we decided to build a structure, for lack of a better word, where we could slide the crate in
02:23and then use additional counter space on top.
02:26So it's basically like a butcher's block, dog kennel.
02:29Apparently no one wants to chop vegetables on top of their dog other than us.
02:33So it doesn't exist.
02:34And so then I kind of designed it and Mike built it.
02:38So having a new puppy is great.
02:40We've had her for two and a half weeks now and they have been a whirlwind.
02:43I think we're just fortunate that we can work from home.
02:45Sleep is not, sleep is a commodity for sure.
02:48Yeah, we haven't slept in two weeks.
02:50Yeah.
02:51We started working home pretty early on, I think, into the pandemic.
02:56My birthday.
02:57Yeah, on your birthday.
02:59Pandemic.
02:59So we painted an accent wall in the living room.
03:02I love, I love the color.
03:04I also like it.
03:06Just like?
03:08Love is, uh, I love you.
03:10Oh, that's...
03:11I can't love a wall.
03:13Okay.
03:14So we painted an accent wall in the living room, which I think is really dramatic.
03:17I love it.
03:18And we put up some frames to put up photos of us, our loved ones, our dog.
03:24And we haven't filled any of the photos in yet, except for one that your mom gave us from
03:29your sister's wedding.
03:30We kind of just had that ready to go.
03:31I'm really excited for when we do fill our frames with things that mean something to us,
03:37rather than these black and white generic photos that are currently in them.
03:48And then the bathroom.
03:49So the last time we did a sweet digs, I talked about how much I didn't like the bathroom.
03:54It doesn't have a window, so it kind of feels like a dungeon.
03:56It was just very black and white.
03:58I tried to introduce some color into it to lighten it up a bit, but we've kind of went
04:03all the way back and embraced the black and white.
04:06And we painted the vanity a nice gray color, put in a new bath mat and accessories, and
04:13I feel like it makes it very chic now.
04:16Very chic.
04:17Indeed.
04:18This is our bedroom.
04:19I have changed up my corner a bit.
04:23I used to have a floating shelf here that served as a desk, and I never used it, not once.
04:28So I actually opened up our closet space by putting some of my stuff over here.
04:33Whatever I wear for the season, I just keep out here, so it's nice and easy to grab.
04:37And this is my corner, which used to be a shelf that carried all my mail and crap that
04:44I didn't use, but now it's my workstation.
04:47We've got some instruments for bricks and fun things.
04:54So Mike's Corner has evolved into Mike's studio.
04:57My gear has moved from here to the studio.
04:59More space to work with.
05:01So we've updated our bedding after having the same comforter for the last six years.
05:07In my case, you've only had it for the last three years.
05:09And it's really nice to have something new and refreshed.
05:12It's from the Refinery29 home collection, and it's very cloud-like.
05:16Yeah, the old comforter was really hot, and I need to be cold when I'm sleeping.
05:21So this one definitely is a little cooler at night.
05:23Got to keep you off of it, though, because it's white.
05:29And our outdoor space is still our favorite part of the apartment.
05:33It made a huge difference when we were quarantined here as well to be able to go and sit outside.
05:37We were really grateful to have that space.
05:39Yes.
05:41We've been wanting a puppy for a really long time.
05:43Mostly me.
05:44Living in this world that we do now, where it's all about kind of realizing, like, what's important and what
05:49you want most in life.
05:50We thought, there's never going to be a best time for anything like that.
05:53There's never a best time for more responsibility, a life change.
05:56And so we were just like, let's go for it.
05:59Right.
05:59And we're so happy.
06:00We love Goose.
06:01She's really good and smart and sweet.
06:03And she's a little crazy sometimes, but because she's a puppy.
06:06She's been pretty good.
06:07She slept through this whole interview, so that's good.
06:10Fingers crossed.
06:10She doesn't make up.
06:12We're done.
