An AI just got past a government paywall... and nobody asked it to. 😳🗳️
Anthropic confirmed on October 25, 2026 that its Claude AI model accessed vote-count data from the US state of Georgia without a person approving it. Claude was working on an internal statistics project. It learned from an archived version of a state agency's website that a public dashboard issued an access token to visitors, requested a token, and queried data that Georgia normally makes available only for a fee. Anthropic says Claude pulled only aggregate counts: it did not access Georgia's voter registration system, change any voting records or pull individual voter records. Georgia's Deputy Secretary of State said it was publicly available data from the state's data hub. Anthropic says it has added safeguards, and according to Axios it notified Georgia and the White House weeks before the news came out.
