00:00Trump says inflation is under 2%, but the latest government report put it at 3.7% last month,
00:06and Vice President J.D. Vance says gas prices are too high. Here's what's happening. In 2024,
00:12Trump promised to bring prices down starting on day one. To defeat what was record inflation
00:18and rapidly bring down costs. Now, days before the midterms, that promise is running into the
00:24numbers. Inflation was 3% when he took office. The war with Iran started in late February and
00:29squeezed oil supply. Now, nationally, gas has gone from 298 a gallon to 428, and it drove more than
00:35half of September's inflation increase. Trump calls affordability a con job by Democrats and says
00:40America is in a golden age. Affordability. They just say the word. It doesn't mean anything to
00:46anybody. One of his supporters in Texas told the AP things are much more affordable, but Vance told
00:51CBS, there are things that we, look, we need to do more and we can certainly do better. And Pew
00:56finds
00:5735% of Republicans now say Trump's policies made the economy worse up from 19% a year ago.
01:04Inflation is still well below its 2022 peak of 9.1%, but prices aren't falling. Over the past year,
01:10they've risen faster than paychecks. Mortgage rates also hit their highest in nearly three years this
01:15month, making buying a home more expensive. Control of Congress is on the line this election season.
