00:02The parents of a Minneapolis nurse shot and killed by federal immigration agents are now
00:07publicly demanding answers from the Justice Department. Nine months after their son's
00:11death, they say the federal government is still keeping them in the dark.
00:14Michael and Susan Preddy spoke out Tuesday for the first time at a news conference.
00:19They say they haven't gotten any meaningful updates about the investigation into their son's
00:23killing, despite writing directly to the attorney general back in July. And they're accusing federal
00:29officials of protecting the agents involved. The federal government went on TV and lied
00:34about Alex. They tried to slander his memory to cover up their crime.
00:41Not only was it wrong, it was shameful, unfair and acceptable. We want to clear our son's name.
00:51We want the world to understand who Alex really was.
00:56We want our son's killers brought to justice once and for all.
01:02Alex Preddy was a 37-year-old ICU nurse. He was killed in January during the Trump administration's
01:08immigration crackdown in Minneapolis. Video of the encounter shows agents wrestling
01:13Preddy to the ground and disarming him before he was shot. The footage contradicted initial claims
01:19from federal officials that Preddy had attacked agents while brandishing a weapon. Minnesota
01:23investigators say the Justice Department initially agreed to share evidence then stopped. The state
01:29is now suing to get the rest of the file. Preddy's father had a direct message for the federal
01:34prosecutors involved. My message to Dan Rosen and attorney Todd Blanche, look in your heart and do what is
01:41right. Share the evidence now so prosecutors can follow the facts and hold these men accountable.
01:49Do your job and stop shielding Alex's killers. The Justice Department argues it's not required
01:56to turn over evidence to state investigators before formal legal proceedings begin.
02:00It also says communication with victims' families generally comes later in an investigation.
02:06Preddy's family says they're still waiting for basic answers,
02:09including information about the agents who shot their son. No charges have been announced in his death.
