00:24for voters. I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America
00:31for $5,000. And the Democrat, who made a surprise appearance. Plus, an emergency slide deployed
00:40before Trump could take off. What happened on the new Air Force One and why the president says
00:45he wasn't worried? And a pilot warned they were going too fast for nearly two minutes.
00:50Now the widow of a man killed in that Amazon plane crash is suing. What she says went wrong.

01:10President Trump opened the Republican midterm convention in Dallas with a $5,000 promise to
01:16Americans. Trump says every adult would get what he calls a dividend, but only if Republicans keep
01:22control of both the House and Senate in November. He didn't say how the payments would be funded or
01:27whether he would ask Congress to authorize them. Paying every American adult is estimated to cost more
01:33than $1 trillion. But he did put one other condition on the money.
01:37But the only condition on the payment of this dividend that we're going to be making. So it's $5,000
01:44to
01:45every adult. The only caveat I have is that the dividend that we're making must be spent
01:53in the United States of America. We don't want you.
02:02We don't want you going to Canada to spend the money. We don't want you going to China,
02:08to Germany. You got to spend the money in the United States of America. In other words,
02:14if the Republicans win, if you win, we might not win.
02:18Trump also told supporters to vote in November as if he were on the ballot saying, quote,
02:22we're running together. And one of the night's more unexpected appearances came from a Democrat.
02:28Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman appeared by video to introduce his Republican Senate colleague,
02:33Dave McCormick. Vice President J.D. Vance is tonight's keynote speaker,
02:37with Trump set to return to close out the convention.
02:40Well, that trip to Dallas got off to a bit of a rocky start. Before President Trump could take off
02:45from Joint Base Andrews, an emergency slide on the new Air Force One suddenly deployed.
02:51Trump ended up waiting about 20 minutes inside Marine One while Cruz dealt with it.
02:55A person briefed on what happened, told Fox News, the slide was triggered accidentally.
03:01Trump described it as a safety check, saying Cruz wanted to make sure the slide
03:05works perfectly. Then came the fairly obvious follow-up.
03:09Mr. President, do you know why they're checking the slide? Is there a security concern with the plane?
03:12No, they were checking it before, and they just wanted to make sure.
03:15So they've, I guess they've already put it up. They want to make sure everything works perfectly.
03:20President, are you sure this plane is safe to fly?
03:23Yeah, I am. Or I wouldn't be honest.
03:25Cruz removed the slide, actually hauling it away in the back of a pickup truck,
03:29and Trump took off for Dallas on the plane. The jet is a $400 million Boeing 747 donated by Qatar
03:37and recently retrofitted for presidential use. And it's already been an eventful few months. Back in
03:42July, security concerns in Turkey led to an elaborate plane switch. Trump boarded the old Air Force One,
03:49then was secretly moved off the plane using a catering truck and flown out on a different
03:54military jet. The original Air Force One took off as a decoy.
03:58While President Trump is threatening another strike inside Iran, during the Republican
04:03midterm convention in Dallas, Trump said the U.S. had detected new activity at Pickaxe Mountain,
04:08an Iranian nuclear site.
04:10We can read it from space. Can you believe this? Thousands of miles away and we're reading
04:15somebody's. We know exactly what's going on, but we notice there's a little activity at Pickaxe.
04:21I would advise Iran not to get cute because we will have to hit them very hard. We have no
04:26choice,
04:27right? We have no choice.
04:28The warning comes as the fighting spreads elsewhere in the region. The Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen
04:33say Saudi-backed forces have launched dozens of airstrikes across the country. Saudi Arabia has not
04:39confirmed the Houthi claim. Houthi, known as a warthog, reportedly lost a wing. Those strikes
04:45came after U.S. forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday. And Trump also floated a new
04:51name for the Strait of Hormuz, the Trump Strait. And he again said oil prices will fall once the U
04:57.S.
04:57wins the war with Iran, a war he said is, quote, taking place right now.
05:03The widow of one of the men killed in the Amazon cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport
05:08has filed a wrongful death lawsuit claiming multiple failures led to the crash. Yaraici
05:14Santizo Morejon's 53-year-old husband, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, was driving the cleaning crew
05:20van hit by the plane on Sunday. He was one of five people killed. The lawsuit names a number of
05:26defendants, including Amazon, Amazon Air Cargo, and the two pilots of the Boeing 767.
05:31It calls the crash, quote, the foreseeable and preventable result of multiple concurrent
05:37failures. The suit points to alleged pilot error and systemic failure by Amazon and the plane's
05:43operating company. It also cites the age of the 32-year-old aircraft and notes its braking,
05:48thrust reverser, and spoiler systems are now under NTSB investigation. And a new NTSB report reveals
05:55what was happening inside the cockpit. One pilot repeatedly warned the other for nearly two
06:01minutes that they were going too fast, both as they approached the runway and after touchdown.
06:06A summary of the cockpit voice recording says the other pilot never gave what investigators called
06:11a consistent verbal response to those warnings. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
06:17Lindsay Clancy's murder trial ended with a hung jury last week. Now her lawyer is trying to make
06:22sure there isn't another one. Kevin Reddington tells CBS News he'll ask a judge to throw out the case
06:27on double jeopardy grounds, arguing the mistrial should not have been declared. The jury deliberated
06:33for more than seven days before the judge declared that mistrial. The foreperson told the judge one
06:38juror had acknowledged having doubt but refused to apply the law on reasonable doubt. Reddington says
06:44the judge should have questioned the juror further before declaring a mistrial.
06:48It would be a motion to dismiss based on what's called double jeopardy grounds because there's
06:53no, the term is manifest necessity. You have to have a manifest necessity to declare a mistrial for
07:00obvious reasons. The invested time that the jurors put into it, the court, the staff, the defendant,
07:06prosecution, everybody. Reddington will make that argument in court September 29th. It's a long
07:12shot motion. Mistrials generally don't prevent prosecutors from trying a case again. But if he
07:17wins, prosecutors would be barred from trying Clancy for the same charges. And Reddington is also
07:23asking President Trump to get involved. He told ABC News this week that he asked Trump to consider a
07:28pardon for Clancy, even though a president can't pardon state crimes. Reddington knows that. He says
07:35what he's hoping is that any message from Trump that works in his favor might influence the Republican
07:39District Attorney. Trump was asked about Clancy last week. It's a shame. It's a horrible tragedy.
07:46It's a it's a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can't be worse. But
07:54you'll find out what the price to pay is. There'll be a price. It's going to be mental institution or
08:00jail or something. Reddington says he hasn't heard from the White House. Prosecutors have not yet said
08:06whether they'll retry Clancy. Finally, this morning, after nearly 30 years, South Park has a
08:12new name, or at least that's what Trey Parker and Matt Stone would like you to believe. The creators
08:18posted this new look with Park, Crossed Out and America taking its place. So for now, South Park is
08:24South America. It's their answer to President Trump's recent move to rename Lake Ontario Lake America in the
08:31U.S., a change Apple and Google have both adopted on their maps. And Parker and Stone made sure they
08:37got a thank you. They wrote, inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google. We are changing
08:43the name of South Park to South America. They even worked their own parent company into the joke,
08:48thanking Paramount for what they called a Skydance capitulation. When asked how long the new name will
08:53last, Parker and Stone insisted they are, quote, 100 percent committed to South America. Season 29 premieres
