00:19calls we go to jake next up hi jake good afternoon fellas what's up um i called a few weeks
00:25ago uh
00:26and uh i brought up uh how underrated i thought uh jared goff was and then i had a follow
00:32-up
00:32question about what you guys thought about him being in the mvp conversation now going forward
00:38a couple weeks seeing him execute and staying at that elite level uh you know i think he's got
00:45almost 68 for completions and he's almost at 1800 passing yards with the qbr rating of 113 i mean
00:55and and the the stuff that actually sticks out to me is the interceptions like zero interceptions
01:00through six weeks is it's kind of phenomenal to me i think he had back-to-back 12 interception
01:05seasons going back to 2023 um so looking uh today do you believe he's in the or could be in
01:15the mvp
01:16you know conversation well he's starting to get that kind of conversation uh the um and and look
01:24this starts with sort of a national movement um and and jake uh watching espn the other morning
01:31they were they were talking about how he is absolutely an mvp having an mvp worthy season
01:38and it it probably has a lot to do with how this team goes on to finish i think you
01:42know your team
01:43has to have great success and you have to be the critical cog as to the reason why uh if
01:49he keeps
01:49throwing touchdowns and no picks it'll be hard to deny him right well it's all going to be about
01:54team success if the team is you know 12 and 5 13 and 4 to win the division i i
02:02think golf will be get
02:04plenty of of of votes for mvp he's having an mvp type season because of the crazy numbers as you
02:10mentioned in the 14 touchdowns no picks and 300 yards a game and he's on pace to have his best
02:16season
02:16his career by far and maybe even eclipse 5 000 passing yards all that stuff is yeah it's there
02:22but ultimately it's going to come down to did he get his team to the playoffs did they perhaps win
02:27the division um because that's what everybody else is being judged on too the other guys that are in
02:34the conversation they make plays that are feet and the media really seems to like that and so do fans
02:39so josh allen's going to get plenty of attention caleb williams is going to get plenty of attention
02:43but in the end which team is most successful and that's usually where the mvp comes from
02:49that makes sense but do you guys agree that this guy has to be the most underrated not even
02:53quarterback but player possibly right now and it's hard to know and i i used to make statements like
02:59that but then i realized i have no idea you know what fan base thinks their guy is underrated are
03:05we
03:05not talking enough about were we not talking enough about sam darnold a year ago are we you know not
03:11talking enough about you know whatever player some fan base wants to to hold up and say is anybody
03:21paying attention to this guy and you go god i wasn't uh wow that's a hell of a year um
03:27you know so i don't
03:29know i don't know if he's the most underrated do i think he's underrated as a general rule yes do
03:35i
03:35think that uh you know he's starting to catch people's attention yes like the line they use the
03:42other day on espn was that it feels like with golf people always want to credit the play caller
03:49first it was mcveigh then it was ben johnson but here he is with another new play caller having another
03:57one of these monster statistical seasons it's not mcveigh it's not ben johnson do they have a good
04:04play caller last year well i mean they didn't apparently at the beginning well i'm just i'm just
04:09putting it out there people think that that john morton was bad or whatever okay well golf's numbers
04:14were still fantastic last year he threw for 4500 yards 34 touchdowns only eight picks and had a rating
04:21of 105.5 so it's he lacks what he lacks the flash of being able to run and that's that's
04:31gonna hold
04:32him back in any conversation with people and i think it's a stupid thing to hold him back for
04:36because what he lacks in his ability to take off and go and get 15 20 yards at a clip
04:42he makes up for
04:44in spades with his intelligence and and where he's throwing the football and and knowing how to read a
04:49defense and set up the protection so he's gonna be able to to throw it to who needs to get
04:54the ball
04:55this sunday is an ultimate test that brian flores defense they run in minnesota is outstanding they
05:03come at you from a million different ways they they blitz all the time and it's going to create
05:09a lot of opportunities but also it's gonna you know have a lot of opportunities for failure
05:14because that's just what it is you got to think quick and fortunately he's the guy that thinks the
05:19it feels like there's opportunities to make big plays too but uh jason tweets us man you guys get
05:26so defensive about any caller questioning the coaches lions in-game decisions if anything comes
05:32across that the lions are being ridiculed you guys get defenses defensive as if you're part owners
05:39um jason i i usually when there's criticism i want to know more about why that person feels the way
05:46they do and that if you're speaking about that last caller and you're you're there are two callers
05:50ago and your tweet aligns with the timing of that tweet aligns with that caller i wanted to know more
05:57and when i asked him about if he had simply heard campbell's reasoning he said i heard an excuse
06:06and i said what was the excuse and he said that they were going to get the ball back no
06:12matter what
06:13if they went for it and so that's what led to the defense of dan campbell that wasn't an excuse
06:22that was pretty much a fact it would be very hard for a team to run five minutes off the
06:28clock and
06:29kick a walk-off field goal from the 23 yard line right so i i we say this all the
06:37time people are
06:38entitled to different opinions and we're more than willing to accept those where we get defensive is
06:43when somebody is ripping someone or being critical of someone and there's not logic behind it if he
06:53wanted to simply say i just wouldn't take that risk i am i would rather take the risk of kicking
07:00and
07:00letting them go the distance of the field than giving them the football there but when you call what
07:06dan campbell's logic is an excuse that's where i got defensive of it so jason i guess to put it
07:12to you that i am critical of what i think is unfair criticism we will defend when i think it's
07:17unfair
07:18criticism yeah i i agree that wholeheartedly and i think this is a perfect instance uh in a game where
07:25we come down to this it's it's we're immediately after the game or when the play was when they were
07:30going front of the fourth and two from the 24 i didn't like it i didn't like the idea because
07:36they're they're so far deep in their own zone like you're basically giving green bay three points
07:41and then i hear the logic afterwards and i'm like okay i understand the logic you might disagree with
07:46the line you might disagree right and i still would have and i still say okay even though i understand
07:50that logic i would have punted it um but there are other factors there's lots of factors that go into
07:57it it's a it's like a then you set up a pro and con list pros are you know for
08:02sure you're going to
08:03get the ball back with plenty of time no matter what the packers do you're going to get the ball
08:07back with plenty of time unless there's a million penalties and they go back 50 yards and then have
08:12to start you know converting longer plays and eat up more of the clock that's not going to happen
08:17fact is they were going to get the ball back what you didn't know were you going to get the
08:22ball back
08:22in a tie game down three down seven that you don't know the other factors are okay if i'm going
08:29to
08:29punt the ball to the packers how is my defense playing well defenses they had some really great
08:36moments in the game and they also had some they just give it up a long they just give it
08:40up a long
08:41time because they had just given up a drive that ate up six minutes and 23 seconds and 61 yards
08:47worth
08:47all right so about the same type of thing that they're looking at if they got the ball
08:51at say their 20 yard line or 30 yard line so that's concerning because then you're never going
08:57to have a chance to answer what they do because the packers have that opportunity they repeat that
09:01you're done yeah but you know i mean that so to ignore that logic i think is foolish you can
09:08disagree
09:08with it but don't dismiss it and say it's an excuse that that's the reality is the it's a fact
09:15you're
09:15going to get the ball back and then you have to rely on your offense to get it done and
09:20it's not like
09:20the offense was scoring every single drive either i mean there's there's risk involved with that i
09:25think the fourth and five call that's more that's that's riverboat gambler to me the fourth and two
09:32isn't nearly as much of the gamble as the fourth and five was and i had a problem with the
09:36fourth
09:36well the fourth and five i've given the reason why i disagreed with dan is i think having a six
09:42point
09:42lead in the second half of a game with an opponent that can score a touchdown to take the lead
09:47now your field goal now you only need a field goal yes to take the lead back not a touchdown
09:52and i
09:52think that i think that matters two four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven more your phone
09:58calls and feedback coming up jared goff twelve thirty ninety seven one
