00:00There will be...
00:01There will be rueful intensity.
00:02There will be spiteful intensity.
00:04There will be intensity on this show.
00:06There will be bitter intensity.
00:07I can promise you there will be all flavors, 31 flavors of intensity on this show.
00:11We are out of joyful on this show.
00:13Sorry, if you came here for joyful intensity, we are out of that flavor of intensity today.
00:19I don't know if you're into the type of person that likes wearing a gimp suit and being abused a
00:23bit.
00:23That kind of joyful intensity.
00:25Getting the benefit of 15-yard penalties for taking a helmet in the middle of the chest.
00:28There's nothing I love more than...
00:30You know what I love?
00:31You know what I really love?
00:32You know what I get intense about?
00:34When they line up with the Stover shove, which clearly is not working for them.
00:38No!
00:39Then they decide to line up for the Stover shove again.
00:42Yeah.
00:43And add Ingram.
00:44But I'll tell you what.
00:45If you're going to commit a false start, you commit the false start.
00:48Dude, you jump.
00:49You fly off the...
00:50Yeah.
00:51Yes!
00:51You flop forward.
00:53Yeah.
00:54All the way into the defense.
00:56All the way in.
00:57And clearly Ingram didn't want to run the Stover shove.
01:00He jumped there.
01:01He's like, you know what?
01:02This play's not going to work.
01:03I think I'm going to save Stover right here and just jump off sides.
01:06What the...
01:07What the hell?
01:08Yeah, what is going on with this team, man?
01:10What is going on with this team?
01:12Sean, I'm going to say the same thing I said on my live stream after the game.
01:16I'm going to say the same thing I said at KHOU last night on Sports Extra.
01:21Yep.
01:21I'm going to say the same thing I'm about to say in three seconds.
01:23I don't know what to say about this football team, which presents a conundrum for a sports
01:28radio host.
01:29I'll tell you that much.
01:30Yeah.
01:31Talking is a big part of the job.
01:33Yeah.
01:34I think the scary thing for me...
01:37Okay, look.
01:38This defense is bad.
01:39And the sample size is getting big enough to where I think we can just flat out say
01:43the defense is bad.
01:44You know what they always say?
01:45It's not a good defense that's playing poorly.
01:47It's a bad defense.
01:48You know what football coaches and GMs like to say is, you know, you don't really know
01:52who your team is until Thanksgiving.
01:55This team is a bunch of my damn cranberry sauce.
01:58I don't know what it is.
01:59I don't know how it's made and I don't like it.
02:01That's my Thanksgiving treat.
02:03I know what this team is.
02:05This is whatever my sister-in-law brings.
02:08That's like some kind of casserole.
02:10Yeah.
02:11There's some green beans or something in there.
02:13It's your sister's casserole, this team.
02:14This is not a good football team.
02:15No, no, and I had said during the week leading up to this game that for me, for me, by
02:24the
02:24way, good morning, everybody.
02:25Welcome in.
02:26Hope you had a great weekend.
02:27Joyfully intense morning to all of you.
02:29Yep.
02:30Happy, joyful intensity morning to all of you.
02:32I had said, Seth, this week, to me, the biggest key to this game, given that J.J. McCarthy was
02:38making his first start as a New York Giant and they'd been in the building with them for
02:42just a matter of a few weeks.
02:44You know, who even knows if they're running the whole playbook with him yet?
02:47You know, he's out there and he gives them a better chance.
02:50He clearly gives them a better chance to win.
02:51They won the game yesterday.
02:52The worst thing that happened to the Texans was J.J.
02:55McCarthy coming in against the Saints and thrown for 240 yards in that fourth quarter.
02:59That was almost the opening to allow John Harbaugh to sit Jameis Winston's ass on the
03:05bench.
03:06But I had said all week that the key was going to be get on J.J. McCarthy early in
03:10this game.
03:11Force a turnover.
03:13Sack him.
03:14Keep him in the pocket.
03:15Don't let him get a little confidence going.
03:18And what happened?
03:19He throws a 42-yard dime to Malik Neighbors in the first quarter, like on the first or second
03:25possession of the game for them.
03:28And he was really, really good after that all day long.
03:31Like J.J. McCarthy, you could not get into any sort of rhythm offensively.
03:36You needed Kiami Fairbairn to kick 58- and 57-yard field goals just to save your bacon in the
03:41first half of this game until the Texans went and moved the ball.
03:45The only time in games it seems like they can move the ball free-flowing is when they
03:49absolutely have to do it because the clock is their enemy.
03:52End of half, end of game.
03:53This team turns into the greatest show on turf.
03:56The other 50 minutes of the game, they are garbage offensively.
04:00And so you let J.J. McCarthy get into a rhythm, and he was really good all day long.
04:06And then the running game supplements it in the second half.
04:08And at one point, to me, where this game was lost, it was not in overtime.
04:13Certainly they lost it in overtime.
04:15But to me, where the message was sent about this game was the drive that started in the
04:22third quarter and finished in the fourth quarter for the Giants, where they were second and
04:27three and third and one.
04:28They were second and six and third and two.
04:31They were second and five and third and one and then converted a fourth and one with Jameis
04:35Winston.
04:35And then the only time the Texans get them in a poor down and distance situation, third and
04:3910, Malachi Fields converts a third down.
04:44And then Skadabo, very next play, runs through six guys on your defense and stiff arms Kalen
04:50Bullock at the goal line, who looked like he wanted no part of Cam Skadabo.
04:53He slapped his forearm so aggressively, Kalen Bullock.
04:56Whoa!
04:57You watch this.
04:58Watch this.
04:59I can't.
04:59I can't.
05:00I can't.
05:00I can't.
05:11His first move was to try to swat away the stiff arm.
05:14Right.
05:15And then his next move was to try to swat away a stiff arm that wasn't there.
05:20And then his third move in the goal line was to give him a karate chop to the neck.
05:24Right.
05:24And then Cam Skadabo did a backflip in your end zone.
05:28He did a backflip.
05:30Cam Skadabo broke five tackles on that play.
05:32If you want to call the fifth attempted tackle a tackle.
05:35It was more of a swatting away at a Mosquito.
05:38Yep.
05:38That Kalen Bullock tried to pull.
05:41There were only one of the five players tried to wrap up in any form, sense, or fashion.
05:46Cam Skadabo just looked like he was covered in dish detergent.
05:49Yes.
05:49Like, he just, it was a complete zero effort play by the defensive, that Texans defense.
05:56That whole drive, they were challenging the Texans' manhood.
05:59They were in second and three, second and six, second and five, because they were pounding
06:02the ball up the middle on the Texans.
06:04Oh, yeah.
06:04They were just punching them, and then they'd get into third and short, and then they'd convert
06:07third and short.
06:09And then the one time you get them in a bad down and distance situation, the defensive
06:13backs mess up.
06:14And Malachi Fields, who made three plays at Notre Dame all of last season, had four catches
06:19yesterday, and they were all massive catches for them.
06:22Yeah.
06:22He had four catches for 83 yards.
06:23A rookie, had four catches for 83 yards.
06:27And then Malik Nabors, they, you know, there's another number one receiver that's just waltzing
06:31through your secondary all day long.
06:32And you know what?
06:33And they traveled Derek Singley with Malik Nabors, and like, just what I've feared and
06:38what I've explained, and it's not an excuse that I'm making for the Texans' defense.
06:42When Derek Singley travels with the other team's best receiver, everybody else screws it up.
06:47Sean, the Texans' defensive backs were best in the league at picking Derek Stingley yesterday.
06:54They were, it was incredible.
06:56They were really good at it.
06:57Like, all Stingley's in the slot, and they run a little, they run a little switch, you
07:01know, with neighbors and whoever was on the outside.
07:06Boom!
07:06Yep.
07:07Shot to the kidneys.
07:09You know, MJ Stewart knocks off Derek Stingley.
07:11They were really nice picks.
07:12It was just, they go, and it's not an excuse that I make when I explain, like, there's
07:17a reason that they don't like to travel with Derek Stingley.
07:19It's not that they don't think he can do it.
07:22It's that they don't trust everybody else to figure it out.
07:24You know, you move Stingley down into the slot, and now all of a sudden, Tremont Smith's
07:28your outside corner.
07:29And he's, Tremont Smith has a whole bunch of highlights slash lowlights of him being
07:35six inches away from making the play.
07:37Yeah.
07:37You know, that first Malachi Fields reception down the right sideline, it was, Tremont Smith was
07:42there to make the play, but he pulled a Reed Blankenship.
07:45Yep.
07:45And Malachi, like, okay, it would have been a reception for 10 yards or so.
07:49I don't remember.
07:49Shove him out of bounds.
07:50And no, he just falls off of him, and he goes for another 15 yards.
07:54So, they're a mess on the back end.
07:57They're a mess.
07:58Look, hey, you know, somebody after the game said, boy, if they're struggling versus
08:02the run like that, maybe they need to play one of these packages where they've got
08:04five defensive linemen in.
08:06They did!
08:06They did!
08:08They had five defensive linemen out there.
08:10You've rewatched this thing.
08:11Yeah, it wasn't for a lack of adjustments.
08:14D'Amico blitzed a lot more aggressively in the second half with success.
08:18But at also times, they're playing, they're still, they're blitzing, but it's an all-out
08:24blitz, but they got everybody playing off coverage.
08:26So, you know, you're one step short of, because he doesn't trust that those guys can cover
08:29in man.
08:30No.
08:31This was D'Amico Ryan's after the game.
08:33This is the scariest part to me, is because I've heard this song and dance from Texans head
08:38coaches before.
08:40This was D'Amico Ryan's being asked, how do you, how do you get your team good again?
08:44Like, how do you make sure your team is good enough to come back from this hole that you've
08:48dug for yourself?
08:50Yeah, we keep, we keep playing.
08:51We keep practicing well.
08:52We keep, man, going out, putting the work in.
08:55Like, we got to, at the end of the day, football, man, it comes down to blocking and tackling,
08:59running the football.
09:00The fundamentals of the game doesn't change.
09:02So, we got to block better, not hold, not hurt ourselves with penalties.
09:06We got to, you know, we got to protect better.
09:08We got to be able to, man, beat man coverage.
09:11We got to be able to cover in man coverage.
09:14We got to be able to tackle.
09:15That's football.
09:16Like, no magical elixir is going to drop out of the sky and, you know, oh, now you're going
09:22to fix it, we fix it by putting the work in and getting better at fundamentals of football
09:26and that's where we got to just own it as coaches, as players, we all got to own it and
09:31we got to find a way to turn this thing around.
09:33As he's going through that laundry list of things that they need to improve, don't worry,
09:37they've got a bi-week to work on it, that I'm trying to think about, okay, which of these
09:41are most fixable and you get to, we got to be able to cover in man coverage.
09:46I'm like, okay, that's, I mean, some of those other things.
09:51Tackling, you can improve during the course of the season.
09:54Yeah.
09:55You know, we've seen this Texans team in the past improve on their tackling in the course
09:59of the season.
09:59Yep.
10:00Blocking without holding.
10:02I don't know if these guys are capable of it.
10:04I don't know.
10:04Like Dalton Schultz, man, you know what the biggest thing about that Dalton Schultz hold
10:07that sucked?
10:08It was that it would have been a nice run without the hold.
10:11Yeah.
10:11It wouldn't have been as explosive of a run, you know, if his guy had made the play, but
10:15it still would have been a nice run.
10:17Yeah.
10:18Yeah.
10:19Penalties were a problem again, mostly in the first half of this game.
10:22They had nine penalties in the first half.
10:24They finished with, they finished with, they fit, look, they finished with 10 penalties.
10:27I wish the box score though, had a, had a column for, uh, unaccepted penalties.
10:35Yeah.
10:35Decline penalties.
10:36Oh, good call.
10:37Good call.
10:37Because they had at least two holds that were declined because it was, it was going to be
10:41fourth down.
10:42So the, so the Giants were perfectly content to let the Texans punt.
10:46I've never seen a team have a 15 yard penalty and a hold on a kickoff return before.
10:51Yeah.
10:51And then the hold got accepted, not the 15 yarder because the holds a spot foul.
10:56So that was going to give worse field position to the Texans.
10:59I like, they're doing so many new things with these penalties, the Texans, that I'm learning
11:03strategy and rules along.
11:04I'm becoming a point where the, oh, declining a 15 yard.
11:07Yeah.
11:08Oh, that's why.
11:09Cause the hold is a spot foul.
11:11Huh?
11:12So I want to becoming connoisseurs.
11:13Yeah.
11:14Yeah.
11:14No, I want to thank the Texans for making me a smarter football fan.
11:17They're doing so many unique things with penalties these days.
11:20You really want to waft the aroma of that penalty up into your nose and get a sense.
11:24Yeah.
11:25I'm like, wow.
11:26Accepting a hold and declining a personal foul for 15 yards.
11:30I didn't even know that a team would think to do that.
11:33But when the hold is a spot foul, that's further back.
11:36So, uh, since we're on the topic of penalties, I don't, man, I'll tell you what, I am genuinely
11:43angry about Camp Scadaboo getting penalized for lowering the helmet.
11:48Clint is too.
11:48Because this is like, just think about the way that game developed and the way it was
11:55lost.
11:56This previously scary Texans defense is being treated like a charity case.
12:01Yep.
12:01You're out there and you're like, whoa, whoa, whoa, Giants.
12:04Too violent for this Texans defense.
12:07Whoa, whoa, whoa.
12:08Hold on a minute.
12:09Uh, these, these kids need protection.
12:11We can't, we can't, we can't have you out there playing football like a football player.
12:16How many times have you seen that called in your life?
12:18It's rare.
12:19I mean, there's the first year that they, one hand, you can count it on, right?
12:21The first year they instituted it, there was, there was a bunch.
12:24Were there?
12:24Yeah.
12:25Yeah.
12:25Yeah.
12:25That's how it always goes.
12:26And then it kind of fell by the wayside.
12:27But especially in that situation, like you've seen the, the, both the defender and the running
12:34backs are equally lowering their heads.
12:36It wasn't like they're targeting or anything.
12:37It was MJ Stewart who he hit with his helmet in the middle of the chest or helmet to helmet
12:42on that play.
12:42I would bet even MJ Stewart was embarrassed that that got called.
12:45Yeah.
12:46As a player, like getting that call, like being on the other end of that.
12:50Oh, I got trucked, but don't worry.
12:51Yeah.
12:52I got an excuse.
12:52I drew a foul.
12:53Yeah.
12:53Yeah.
12:54He's a, yeah.
12:54He doesn't want that penalty.
12:55No, no, no.
12:57Boy, this team is, it's a bad football team right now and it's poorly coached right now.
13:01I will tell you that.
13:02And I will lay that out at seven o'clock today.
13:04I've got the five hallmarks of a poorly coached football team.
13:07D'Amico talks about four of them in his press conference yesterday.
13:11And I'll let you guess where the blame lies with some of these.
13:15Are you power ranking them?
13:16No, I just have, I, uh, no, um, no, they're all really bad.
13:20You know, they're all, I'll let you be the judges to which ones we'll go.
13:23We'll go through them and you can tell me as we go through them, which are the worst
13:25ones.
13:26I guess, uh, you know what?
13:27I wish that Almond Thompson wasn't so selfishly playing basketball right now because I feel
13:32like they could use his presence on this football team.
13:36A safety?
13:37There's a certain nastiness, uh, or just a receiver.
13:40Something.
13:41Yeah.
13:41Yeah.
13:42Yeah.
13:42Like a little bit of, uh, I just, I feel like the most, I feel like the most swarmy athlete
13:46in Houston right now is not on the Texans.
13:48No.
13:49He's on the Rockets.
13:49No, I feel like the 10 most swarmy athletes are somewhere other than on the Texans right
13:54now.
13:54Yeah.
13:54No.
13:54So the tackling, we didn't get to the tackling.
13:56No.
13:57Oh, let's talk about it.
13:58This has been, all right.
13:58Last week.
13:59Oh, you know what?
13:59I thought Clint did a great thing yesterday.
14:01He kind of, he started this on and then I fleshed it out in my mind because you guys
14:05were going to a break during the pregame show.
14:06And Clint basically said like, all right, chief, how many, like, which, what's the excuse going
14:11to be now for the defense?
14:12And I started thinking, you know, because you go and he had, he had started off with
14:16talking about, okay, well, none of the starters played in the preseason.
14:20In hindsight, it looks like they weren't as dialed in and precise as they need to be on
14:24defense.
14:25And, and then it turned into like, well, also you got to remember, look at this slate of
14:29quarterbacks and receivers they're playing.
14:31Yep.
14:32And you're like, yeah, okay, well, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow.
14:36Yep.
14:36Back.
14:37But then you get to Daniel Jones though, in that little, in that four game stretch.
14:41All right.
14:41Daniel Jones was kind of taking what he wanted.
14:43Oh yeah.
14:44But that's where the other excuse comes in.
14:46Well, the linebackers were banged up and, uh, and Reed Blankenship isn't playing the way
14:50you'd like them to.
14:52And then you get to the London game.
14:54Well, it's a slippery surface, you know, there's like, who's ever played football on a slippery
14:59surface before?
15:00Now it's this week.
15:01The excuse will be that, oh, not that the Texans will make it, but the, I just, if you're
15:06trying to talk your way into it, well, oh, they were tired from playing like crap in London,
15:11you know, I just, you know, what do they get?
15:13Okay.
15:13They're going to be groggy after the break, you know, like taking a long nap after the
15:17buy.
15:18So there's no, you've run out of excuses.
15:20I am curious.
15:21And you know, Nick Casario meets with the media today at 10 o'clock.
15:25Um, D'Amico meets with the media at 1115.
15:28I am curious, and I don't know if anybody will ask them this, but the league does take,
15:34uh, uh, requests from teams that are playing overseas to get their bye week.
15:39The week they get back, they don't guarantee it because the schedule is the schedule.
15:43And sometimes you just can't make it work with the schedule.
15:45I do wonder if the Texans requested to have their bye week the week after the London
15:49game.
15:49Yeah.
15:49They certainly played like a team that was on a bye yesterday for big chunks of the game.
15:53A lot of teams have just declined to the bye week.
15:56They have.
15:57There's not a lot of evidence that it actually hurts your play all that much.
16:00And the only reason I'm bringing it up is because they looked like a team that was
16:02sleepwalking yesterday.
16:03Oh yeah, I know.
16:04That's the only reason.
16:05That's not an excuse.
16:06No.
16:07Especially, you know, talking about sleepwalking.
16:09Do we have the adding room audio?
16:10Um, we'll play that.
16:12We do it next segment.
16:12I've got it.
16:13Yeah.
16:14Just something that I never thought I'd hear an NFL player admit to a reporter.
16:17We got it next segment.
16:18Offer it up.
16:19He offered it up.
16:20Yeah.
16:20Yeah.
16:20And even if he was joking, I would recommend not doing that if your record is two and four.
16:25In regards to the fatigue coming back from London.
16:27Yep.
16:28Yep.
16:28Yep.
16:28So we'll get to that in the next segment, but there's, I, this is the scariest part to
16:32me is D'Amico doesn't seem like a coach who has answers right now.
16:34Cause it's the same thing every week.
16:37And the solution is got to go back to practice.
16:39Got to get the fundamentals down.
16:41These are adults.
16:42Got to get the fundamentals down.
16:44He talks about them like they're a JV high school team.
16:48Got to get the fundamentals down.
16:50What are we doing?
16:51What are we doing?
16:53All right.
16:53Um, so that's where we are right now.
16:55There will be no joyful intensity on this show today.

16:59We'll get to that.
16:59CJ said something.
17:01Okay.
17:01This is another thing that's coming down from the head coach that now the quarterback is
17:05saying it.
17:06And I don't like hearing CJ Stroud talk like this after the game.
17:10We'll get to that.
17:10We'll get to what Seth talked about at Ingram in the player spotlight yesterday.
17:15We'll do all of that.
17:15Share your thoughts.
