C.J. Stroud thinks fans and media are "talking crazy" after the Texans' overtime loss to the Giants, but Seth Payne and Sean Pendergast aren't buying it. The truth is simple: the Texans are playing bad football, and dismissing legitimate criticism as outside noise won't fix third-down failures, costly penalties, or a broken offensive identity.

00:00Two receivers each way, Stroud in the gun, Woody Marks in the back, he'll win him.
00:04On third and goal, Stroud calls for the ball, here's the snap.
00:09C.J. looking, C.J. firing back in the end zone, caught, touchdown!
00:13It is caught by Marvin Harrison Jr., first touchdown as a Texan,
00:19and it couldn't have come at a better time.
00:22There you go, Marvin Harrison Jr., his first touchdown as a Texan.
00:25That was his only catch of the day, unfortunately.
00:27But he got in the end zone, that was the remedy roofing.
00:30Play of the game, don't let roof damage sideline your home.
00:32Remedy roofing, you've got the roof, we'll bring the remedy.
00:35Boy, Marvin Harrison Jr. had a massive drop in this game.
00:39The drive, the series after the Texans, the series after the one that I was bringing up in the open,
00:46Seth,
00:46where they got their manhood challenged and failed,
00:49when Cam Scadabo ran through seven of them for a touchdown.
00:53It was just five.
00:54It was just five?
00:55Okay, yeah.
00:56Yeah, I'm being hyperbolic.
00:58I apologize, Texans.
01:01No, yeah, the actual number sounds bad enough.
01:03Yeah, yeah, just the whole thing.
01:06But Marvin Harrison Jr., man, he was running across her about 20, 25 yards downfield,
01:11and C.J. put it on him, and he dropped it.
01:13He would still be running right now if he had caught that ball.
01:16That was tough.
01:17They end up tying up the game at the end of regulation,
01:19but boy, the complexion of the game changes if you answer quickly like that
01:22after they challenge you that way.
01:23Right, right, right, yeah.
01:25Man, and then everything.
01:27At the end of regulation, I kind of felt like both these teams deserve a tie today,
01:32and then the Giants 100% seized it.
01:35Yeah.
01:35They just, nope, beyond a shadow of a doubt, you're the better football team today.
01:40They were the better football team.
01:41The physical toll, like, just, it added up, and Cam Scadaboo ends up averaging, what,
01:477.3 yards per carry?
01:49Yep.
01:49And just took what he wanted in the final quarter of the game and in overtime.
01:54And Devin Singletary got in on the mix as well.
01:56Yeah, Devin.
01:57Running through just wide open.
01:59Yep.
01:59Like, honestly.
02:00Huge holes.
02:01It was, like, I would hire Cam Scadaboo to make it through the straight of Hormuz.
02:07It was, like, it was simple.
02:09It was easy.
02:10It was wide open.
02:11And this was a beleaguered running back room.
02:14Yeah.
02:14Just a week ago.
02:16They, John Harbaugh had them all on notice.
02:18He cut Najee Harris.
02:20Yeah.
02:20And I don't know if you saw, there's a video after the game.
02:22All three running backs scored touchdowns yesterday.
02:24Yeah, then they got together and did a little celebration.
02:26The three of them were in their little celebration huddle and whatnot.
02:28I'm like, you know what?
02:31Stop them.
02:32You know?
02:33Like, you don't want them celebrating like that.
02:35You got to stop them.
02:36Yeah.
02:36So, that was tough.
02:39CJ Stroud said something in the post-game show yesterday.
02:44And Clint and I both, we played CJ's press conference.
02:47It was only about four minutes long.
02:48And Clint and I both heard this.
02:50And we both perked up.
02:51And we both got triggered by it.
02:52And I'm going to play it for you guys right now.
02:54Is it about joyful intensity?
02:56It's not.
02:57It's not.
02:57I don't have it in me, man.
02:59It's about the haters.
03:00And we're going to get to this here.
03:04And let me be very clear.
03:07Look, CJ Stroud didn't have a great game yesterday.
03:09He only threw for 153 yards.
03:10I will say the same thing seven games in that I've been saying all year.
03:13CJ Stroud's not the problem with this team.
03:15On offense, the problem is the blocking, the running game, the guy calling the plays.
03:20CJ Stroud is, if he's a problem, he's way down the list of problems on this offense right now.
03:25So, I am playing this audio here coming from a place where I acknowledge that CJ Stroud individually is having
03:32a pretty good season.
03:33Yeah.
03:3411 touchdowns, one interception, all that.
03:37Although, you did not see Kayvon Thibodeau drop in a zone dog there at all.
03:43And that's why Kayvon Thibodeau is a defensive end and not a wide receiver.
03:47That's exactly right.
03:48So, here was CJ Stroud yesterday.
03:51How do you keep your composure going into the bye week?
03:55Yeah, I think we know how this goes.
03:57You know, we're going to get a bunch of people talking crazy and want us to, you know, do this,
04:01do that.
04:02He's terrible.
04:02He's bad.
04:03He should have played like this.
04:04He should have.
04:05So, you know, just block it out the noise and just, you know, understand.
04:08I mean, we got ourselves in this hole.
04:09We got to find a way to dig ourselves out.
04:11And, you know, I have the most trust and hope in our team that we can do that.
04:15But, you know, we got to address things, have hard conversations.
04:17And, you know, I got to be better myself.
04:18So, you know, I think, you know, there's a lot of accountability that needs to be had.
04:22And, you know, we'll be able to hopefully get those things fixed because, you know, it's, you know, going to
04:26a bye week, I think it's a good time for it, you know, to have those conversations and self-scout,
04:30you know, and get some things corrected.
04:32Okay, two things, two things, Seth, two things.
04:34One, nobody's saying anything crazy right now.
04:37You're a bad football team.
04:39You know what it reminded me of?
04:40It was when Bo Nix the other day said that, like, playing well, playing poorly, it's all a narrative.
04:45Like, what?
04:47Yeah.
04:47Did you see that?
04:47Yeah, no.
04:48No, no.
04:49I thought it was a lie.
04:50It was one of these things.
04:50It was real.
04:51It was real.
04:52Bo Nix, when asked about him playing poorly, said, like, ah, it's all a narrative.
04:55You know, a good reception here, an incompletion there.
04:59Yeah.
05:01Nobody, nobody is saying anything crazy about your team right now.
05:04You're a bad football team.
05:05And I'll say this.
05:06The only things that people are talking good about with the team are pretty much you and
05:10Will Anderson, CJ, and Kymie Fairbairn.
05:13That's it.
05:14Nobody is saying anything crazy about this team right now.
05:17You're a bad defense that can't tackle.
05:19You're an offense that looks like the guy calling the plays doesn't know what the hell
05:23he wants to do week to week.
05:24So nobody, if we say things on this show this week, none of it's crazy.
05:28You're a bad football team right now.
05:30None of it's crazy.
05:31The second thing is this.
05:33If you don't want people talking about you, go lose three more games.
05:36Nobody will talk about you.
05:38Right, right.
05:38Yeah.
05:38Nobody will want to talk about you at all.
05:41Be glad.
05:42Be glad that people are angry about this right now.
05:45Because the next step, after you guys blow two or three more games, is for nobody to
05:51want to talk about you at all.
05:53And that's the worst.
05:54It can get worse for you.
05:56The crazy talk?
05:57Ooh, the crazy talk.
05:59Be glad there's crazy talk right now.
06:01Because I'm telling you right now, you are two or three games away from nobody even caring
06:05to talk crazy about your team.
06:06It was.
06:07I mean, they were.
06:08These guys sometimes, man.
06:09Like, this message that comes down from D'Amico, that we got to block out all this noise.
06:14You know how you don't block out the noise?
06:17By talking about the freaking noise all the time.
06:19By bringing it up unprompted.
06:20Unprompted!
06:21Yeah.
06:21Nobody asked about the noise.
06:23They asked, how do you keep your composure?
06:25And CJ, who gets this messaging from the head coach, is like, well, all this crazy talk's
06:30going to be going on now.
06:31Right.
06:32It's all going to be crazy talk.
06:33You guys are going to act like three for 12 on third down is bad.
06:39Crazy talk.
06:39Crazy talk.
06:41It's a madhouse.
06:43Oh, nine penalties in the first half.
06:46Oh, you guys are all going to be out there like, I'd prefer that my football team not
06:50have stupid penalties.
06:51People talking.
06:52Crazy talk.
06:53People talking.
06:53Hey, you can tell it's Halloween because things are getting crazy out there.
06:57I would like it if my football team didn't routinely have false starts in short yardage situations.
07:05Will you stop it?
07:06Hey, Sean.
07:07That's just crazy talk.
07:08How do you convert fourth and one or fourth and six?
07:11Yeah.
07:12I'm not coming into this crazy numbers and math and whatnot.
07:15I say fourth and one, but a lot of people are saying that's crazy talk.
07:17That's crazy talk.
07:18You're who CJ's talking about right now.
07:21Hey, Marvin Harrison.
07:22Oh, you're crazy talk.
07:23I wish Marvin Harrison would have caught that pumpkin over the middle of the field.
07:28Why are you saying these crazy things?
07:29You loony head.
07:30Why do you keep saying such crazy things?
07:32I'm just that joyfully intense, goofy pants.
07:35Do you want to get some crazy talk?
07:37Should we play this Ed Ingram here?
07:39We teased it for the people.
07:40Yeah.
07:40Yeah.
07:40Yeah.
07:41Okay.
07:42This was when Greg.
07:44Greg Bailey.
07:45Sorry, Greg Bailey.
07:46Greg Bailey was asking Ed Ingram about the travel from London.
07:49Yeah.
07:50How crazy it was.
07:50This was in the player spotlight yesterday during the pregame show.
07:53How was the recovery from the flight home from Europe?
07:56Because I'm dragging a little bit.
07:57I got to be honest with you.
07:58Man, I ain't go a lot.
07:59I still haven't recovered.
08:00I was falling asleep in meetings today.
08:02When Nico was talking, I'm over there like falling asleep.
08:04But it was hard because we got back here, I think like 3.30.
08:10And then I didn't get to go to sleep until about 6 o'clock just because I couldn't go to
08:15sleep.
08:15Got two hours of sleep.
08:16And, man, I'm still groggy right now.
08:19Groggy after a win.
08:21We'll take that, man.
08:22Thank you so much for your time.
08:23Look forward to a great one against the Giants.
08:24Yes, sir.
08:25No problem.
08:25Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,
08:31ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
08:31What the?
08:32Dude.
08:33You got home at 3.30.
08:34Right.
08:35So it's like you played in a away Sunday night game.
08:37And actually, you get home later than that on a lot of away Sunday night games.
08:40And like that Seattle, the travel is worse.
08:42When you play in Seattle on a Sunday night, you get home at like 5 a.m.
08:47Yeah, they played on Monday night last year in Seattle.
08:49Yeah.
08:50So on a Sunday night game, like that's not, all right, cool.
08:53You're falling asleep.
08:55Why are you copping to this?
08:58Like, oh, I don't want to admit that.
09:00Yeah, I don't know.
09:01Like, I hope I should have asked Greg.
09:03And I saw him in the press box.
09:04I should have asked him what day he did that interview.
09:07Because, God, I hope it wasn't on a Friday.
09:09People are going to say, I thought the same thing.
09:12People are going to say right now, like, you guys are making too much of this.
09:15He was just joking.
09:16Don't joke about it.
09:17They looked like they were sleepwalking out there.
09:18They were falling asleep on the sidelines.
09:20Ed Ingram jumped on fourth and one and prevented them from, probably prevented them from failing
09:24on a Stover shove, if we're being honest.
09:26And it looked like a team that was not answering the test of like, oh, okay, you know what?
09:31Yeah.
09:31It gets tough sometimes.
09:32Your schedule isn't ideal.
09:34You know?
09:35Don't joke about that.
09:36Hey, you guys, if, you know, if the Texans actually put together a good season this year,
09:40they'll, you have a bunch of primetime games next year.
09:43Yeah.
09:44And you got to deal with weird travel schedules.
09:46They have a bunch coming up in the second half of the season.
09:49They've got four and seven weeks coming up in the second half of the season.
09:54They're going to decide to wake up.
09:55I'm tired.
09:57I'm falling asleep in meetings.
09:59No, and that's what they, and they play like that.
10:01Man, I'll tell you another thing.
10:02Yeah.
10:03This, this team, they want to be tough and physical and they want to play with the, which
10:08by the way, okay, you go out and you're in jumbo all the time.
10:11They love it.
10:12Sammy was texting you some stats about him.
10:14Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:14Bring it on.
10:15Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:15Young Sammy Pender.
10:16Yeah, young Sammy.
10:17That's how I know Sammy's angry.
10:17So they're so obsessed with having six offensive linemen out there that when Blake Fisher goes down,
10:22you gots to put Braden Smith in there.
10:24The Texans rushing offense, this is yesterday, six offensive linemen.
10:28They had 20 runs with six offensive linemen.
10:30You just had a quarterback who was the player of the week the week before and you're trading
10:34for Marvin Harrison Jr.
10:35And you're in jumbo for 20 of the 56 plays that you ran.
10:40They went for a stellar 3.1 yards per run and a 35% success rate is probably the better
10:48stat because inherently those are just going to be probably shorter run plays.
10:52Crazy talk.
10:5335% success rate.
10:54Five offensive linemen, Seth.
10:5660% success rate.
10:58Yeah.
10:58We need to spread it out a little bit.
10:59Let CJ Cook pass to set up the run, do all those things.
11:02Oh, my God.
11:03They're so obsessed with proving to their daddies that they're tough.
11:06Yeah.
11:06Like, it's just...
11:09Crazy talk.
11:09Let's think about this for a minute, though.
11:11We're going to be a big, tough, physical football team.
11:13How are you going to do it?
11:14We're going to add an extra offensive lineman.
11:16Yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:16We need 20% more offensive linemen.
11:19We need more tough guys.
11:20Yeah, we're going to work it out like, ah, I don't know, I don't know.
11:22How are these...
11:22Ah, bring another big, fatty guy in.
11:24How are these tough guys going to win this fight?
11:26By making it a handicap match?
11:27By having as much extra as possible.
11:29Yeah.
11:29Yeah, they can't do it on their own.
11:31They're so big and tough that you've got to bring in an extra offensive lineman.
11:34You're just talking crazy right now.
11:35Who can't?
11:35Remember, they're so committed to it that they're putting a guy in who doesn't know how to line
11:40up or where to line up, who's committing penalties, who's just ineffective at doing it because
11:45they're pot committed to running that damn jumbo package.
11:49Greg Bailey's cameraman is listening right now.
11:52He texted.
11:52He said they did that interview on Wednesday.
11:54So he is still tie-tie on Wednesday, man.
11:58He's still feeling it at Ingram on Wednesday.
12:00I'm just pissed off.
12:01We're all pissed off this morning.
12:03This is an intensity show, but it is not joyful intensity today.
12:07All right.
12:07Headlines coming up next.
12:09We'll discuss the Texans and some results going on around the NFL yesterday, including
12:16last night.
12:16I'm going to tell you as a Texan fan last night, that Sunday night game, that pissed me off.
12:21And I'll tell you why in headlines.
12:22Rockets, too.
12:23Let's talk about a Houston team that's doing well in headlines, the Houston Rockets.
12:27They had a tough travel schedule.
12:29They did.
12:29Going into Saturday.
12:30What did they do?
12:31Going into Saturday.
12:32Answered the bell.
12:32That's what they did.
