00:00They're coming off a bye week.
00:02Let's start with that.
00:04This is a big week.
00:06I know you think I'm going to say the players,
00:08and at the end of the day it's about players being more productive,
00:12but, man, this one, a lot of this is going to fall back on coaches
00:16and specifically three coordinators, offense, defense, and special teams,
00:25to put together game plans to give your guys,
00:29now that you have an extra week.
00:30They talked about self-evaluation and looking at what all your players
00:37through five weeks can and can't do to put them in a better situation
00:42to have success.
00:43Very young team.
00:45A lot of these guys only have five games they play.
00:47Hell, we had a lot of guys that didn't play that much last year
00:49that are now starting on offense and defense.
00:56So, to find a way, I don't know if it's doable,
01:01but we've got to get a better pass rush.
01:03It's not good enough.
01:04Four sacks.
01:05I think the next lowest team is maybe eight, but we are struggling.
01:10Most of those sacks, if not all of them, in one game.
01:14So, we've got to find a way, and Coach has been very honest about this,
01:18Coach Halfley, that they need to keep working at it
01:21and find ways to put pressure on the quarterback so they can't sit back there
01:25and pick you apart.
01:27The other thing is special teams, just flipping around in no order here.
01:34Special teams just got to be better.
01:36And that hall pass is about done.
01:39It's just coverage, penalties that back you up.
01:45You're just constantly in bad field position.
01:48Cincinnati started the last game before the bye week
01:51with a drive on your 10-yard line.
01:55You can't give Joe Burrow the ball in the 10-yard lane.
01:58They scored in a couple plays, and you're down 7-0.
02:01Your defense really did nothing wrong.
02:03Did nothing wrong.
02:04Did not deserve that.
02:06That's fall.
02:07And that's a huge play.
02:09Huge play.
02:10Not to mention all your kicking problems.
02:12The kicker's been taken care of.
02:14He's been released, Riley Patterson.
02:17I think he lost confidence.
02:18It was obvious to everybody when the coach tells you to kick it in the end zone
02:23and you can't kick it and you miss it.
02:26You just miss an extra point.
02:28I think everybody saw somebody has lost some confidence
02:31and is not the same kicker that we had a year ago.
02:35The other big one is Malik Willis
02:39and finding ways, especially with Caleb Douglas coming back,
02:45it's on that coaching staff to come up with a game plan
02:49so he has the chance to have more success and score more points.
02:54We're sitting here with, what is it, seven touchdowns on the season
02:58and five games.
03:00You can't win games.
03:02You've got to score more than that.
03:03And if not, you've got to kick a lot of field goals,
03:06and honestly, we haven't done that either.
03:08So, finding ways, short passes, I'm with everybody else,
03:13try to find a way to get Dulcich the ball more,
03:16find a way, you know, safe, easier throws
03:19so we don't throw deep down the field so much,
03:22although I still believe we should.
03:24And then the other thing is,
03:26should I run or should I buy time and throw?
03:30And Malik, the gift that he has,
03:34and it's one of the best gifts in the game,
03:36is his ability to get outside the pocket and take off and run.
03:39And still has a big arm.
03:42If he rolls out, and this would be another critique,
03:47our receiver's got to do a better job
03:49when the quarterback is outside the pocket.
03:51Once he's outside the pocket,
03:53on a play that was supposed to be thrown from in the pocket,
03:57once you see your quarterback run,
03:59you've got to run for an open area.
04:00I don't know how much they work on it.
04:02I don't, I haven't talked to anybody.
04:05But you've got to freelance to an open area
04:07where your quarterback, to give him a chance
04:10to complete the ball.
04:12Like the one that got called back,
04:1468-yarder where he's going out of bounds
04:16and flips it up at the last second against the 49ers,
04:19and Bell's wide open, Chris Bell's there,
04:22but he stepped out of bounds,
04:23so we didn't get credit for the 68-yard touchdown.
04:27But we've got to do a better job
04:28with some of that kind of stuff.
04:30So I'm really curious to see with that extra week,
04:35but before we talk about players,
04:38I'm going to be looking,
04:39and you should be looking at game plans
04:41and how we're using people,
04:43and are we using them in the best situation
04:45to have more success and to get better?
04:48Because that's what this is all about.
04:50And try to figure a way to get that first win
04:53is really important for this group.
04:54This group needs to taste at some point
04:57a win, a victory.
05:00This try hard and come close,
05:04look, they are.
05:05They don't get blown out in a lot of games,
05:09but you've got to find a way to win a game.
05:11And the only way you're going to do it
05:13is you've got to clean up offense,
05:15score more points, defense,
05:18defense, better pass rush would be number one for me.
05:21And special teams overall has just got to be better.
05:25Some of the worst special teams,
05:26and I understand,
05:27I understand they're all new,
05:29new on special teams too.
05:31These are some of the worst special teams
05:32I've seen overall.
05:35Overall.
05:38So anyway, that's where we stand on,
05:41you know, and you clean some things up,
05:43you'll have a chance
05:46to beat a team like the Jets,
05:48either here or on the road this weekend.
05:52But a lot of things got to get cleaned up.
05:54You can't make the same mistakes you made
05:58against Cincinnati and expect to win,
06:00starting with right off the bat,
06:02first kickoff,
06:03and they're on the 10-yard line.
06:06Just,
06:08you're not good enough to overcome
06:09all those kind of mistakes.
06:11And a lot of teams go most of the year
06:14without somebody having
06:15a kickoff return that long.
06:18That's not normal.
06:20I understand occasionally somebody's
06:22going to get to the 45 or 50 on a nice return.
06:26But you can't have them
06:28inside the 10-yard line.
06:30Or inside the red zone.
06:32Just a killer.
06:34Killer of killers.
06:35Anyway, we got a lot more stuff to get to.
