00:00On Davison-Igbenosan, Bills at 5-1 into the bye week.
00:05Next up, the Ravens next Sunday at home.
00:08Then a Monday night trip to Minnesota following that.
00:11Then the trade deadline the next day.
00:15How focused are we on that with this Bills team?
00:20Is it another round, another year of go-get-X?
00:26Yes, I think so.
00:29It can be.
00:31There's no way that it's 100% of anybody about anything ever anymore.
00:38But I'd be surprised if there were – it always depends on the player.
00:43If the Bills were to give up, find a trade that they want to make that involves a first-round
00:48pick,
00:48which is in-season, that's a massive trade.
00:55And if that were for a player who some fan out there has decided that they'd despise, think he's just
01:00terrible.
01:01I didn't like Drew Bledsoe.
01:03The Bills traded for Drew Bledsoe.
01:04I got run over by people who were like, he's Drew Bledsoe.
01:07I know.
01:08I don't like him.
01:09I don't think he's that good.
01:10What are we doing here?
01:13Were you right?
01:14I think so.
01:16Okay.
01:16He was pretty good.
01:18Yeah.
01:18Which is what he was, I think, the whole time.
01:21And I don't – I know it's an improvement on what I have, but it's not going to get me
01:26anywhere, I didn't think.
01:28Anyway.
01:28You know, that's a conversation I'm not sure we've ever had.
01:32Right.
01:34It's so long ago.
01:35I know.
01:36But the 2004 Bills, how great was Ross yesterday on the Deion Sanders play and, like, the Burger King and
01:42he's chasing him and he talked to Deion Sanders, like, I'm in the ad.
01:46How great was that?
01:47Right.
01:48That team was really good.
01:51But they missed.
01:53And then they replaced him.
01:54And then they replaced him, which I was for.
01:57Yeah.
01:58That day, you and I at the casino in Canada, after they lost to the Steelers.
02:03At the end of 2004, I'm like, he's got to go.
02:06I'm like, I don't know if he had to go.
02:07He went to Dallas.
02:10And then they didn't really win either.
02:11No.
02:12No.
02:12But that team was really good.
02:14Like, with a little better luck, 0-4 Bills.
02:16Yeah.
02:16Right.
02:18They might have been a team that could have really rocked in the playoffs if they had gotten there.
02:22That's the loser's lament, right?
02:24But they didn't.
02:24They didn't.
02:25But they didn't.
02:25So anyway, I didn't mean to sidetrack us with that diversion.
02:28I love that conversation.
02:29I think the majority of Bills fans, my sense is, if they found that trade, you know, the
02:38Sauce Gardner, not necessarily Sauce Gardner, but like that, if they had traded for Joey
02:42Porter Jr. and given up, what was that even?
02:45A 2 in 28?
02:47Bills, I think that would have been universally applauded.
02:50Well.
02:50Like, that's a starting caliber player, you're making a move to try to upgrade, you recognize
02:56you've got these shortcomings, and you're in a window where, yeah, I'd love to have my
03:01second round pick in two years, but I've got Josh Allen, and he just turned 30, and so
03:07I'm going to go ahead and do that.
03:09Like, I think every year that goes by, it gets more and more called for, for them to sacrifice
03:15some future pick for assets that could help them immediately.
03:21And I think that's only going to get hotter as the longer they go without winning.
03:28I mean, when you make a trade like that, Amari Cooper, signing Von Miller, not a trade, but
03:36every fan loves it, every time.
03:39It's always the same.
03:41It's, the person who's like, I wouldn't have done that, gets shouted down in five seconds.
03:47Like, everybody loves the ad.
03:50And that's not to say it isn't a good idea, necessarily, but, ugh, it's so boring.
03:56Like, every time the Bills trade for somebody like this, it's just like, yes, it's universally
04:03applauded.
04:03Everybody loves it.
04:05That doesn't mean it's right.
04:07And they haven't gotten any farther yet.
04:10Like, Amari Cooper, every, I loved it.
04:13I remember Amari Cooper playing against Houston the year before, and he had 250 yards receiving
04:19with Flacco, and then, like, all right, this is a great idea.
04:22I'm guilty.
04:23Did it work?
04:25Not really.
04:26No, it went terribly.
04:27Like, he did nothing, and he was hurt, and they lost a pretty good, a day two draft pick.
04:33So, it's always, like, popular and easy to say how great it is to do that.
04:39And, you know, part of any general manager's existence, Brandon Bean included, is to do things
04:47that fans like.
04:48I mean, that's part of, whether it should be or not, I'm not saying it should be, but
04:52that's part of the equation, is, like, making moves that help you with the fan base.
04:57And that move is always popular.
05:00Trading a day two pick for anybody, name anybody, will be popular this year if they do it.
05:07And I expect it.
05:08I think they're probably in a position to do that, whether that's in the secondary or wide
05:13receiver again.
05:15I mean, Brian Thomas Jr. is interesting.
05:18And in a lot of ways, the Jacksonville receiver, Brian Thomas, in a lot of ways, he was a good,
05:28a very good college player at LSU.
05:31He would be a first-round draft pick from Jacksonville.
05:36I'm thinking of Scott Barrett, my friend, who was like, never do it because his yards
05:42per route run were terrible.
05:44And then he went and had a great rookie season when Mac Jones played, not when Lawrence played.
05:50Right.
05:50It wasn't working with Trevor Lawrence.
05:51Mac Jones took over, and yeah, it really flashed, and then it still seemed, you know,
05:58like he was out of favor there.
06:00And so last year, at this time, that was, like, maybe the hottest thing.
06:04Him and Waddle were, like, the hottest things going last year at the trade deadline.
06:09Wasn't moved.
06:11This year has done nothing.
06:13Didn't see the field in the second half of a shootout against Houston.
06:17Didn't play a snap in the second half of that game.
06:20No, that's telling.
06:20Had a drop.
06:21He went 0 for London.
06:22Didn't catch a pass in either game.
06:24Philadelphia and then Houston.
06:26Brian Thomas.
06:27So it's Washington, who they love and is good.
06:31It's Myers, who they traded for and is pretty good.
06:34And signed.
06:35Then it's Travis Hunter now in that game.
06:38He loves London.
06:39Travis Hunter.
06:40And, I don't know, two tight ends.
06:43Brian Thomas is nowhere.
06:45So, somebody could try to convince me that he's worth it.
06:51But, as I sit here right now, like, to me, it's just a non-starter.
06:55I feel so much now.
06:59I feel more like he's some version of Marvin Harrison Jr. at this point.
07:04Like, do I want to trust that I'm going to get what?
07:09Like, what is this player?
07:11You know?
07:12Like, he's bad.
07:14Right.
07:15I think he's bad.
07:16That's what I'm worried.
07:18Maybe I should be glad.
07:20This is where your little speech a minute ago about everyone loves it.
07:24Like, we all, I mean, not everyone, but plenty of people were,
07:28Brian Thomas Jr., bring me Brian.
07:30He's available.
07:30Go do it.
07:31What are we doing here?
07:32They just traded for Jacoby Myers.
07:34Go get him.
07:36Maybe it's a blessing that they didn't.
07:39Because maybe he's just not even as good as Keon Coleman.
07:43Same draft?
07:44Right.
07:44Which might sound insane.
07:46Ten picks apart?
07:47Maybe?
07:48If that?
07:49He was, like, in the 20s, I think.
07:50Yeah.
07:50Coleman's 33.
07:51Yeah.
07:52I think that's right.
07:53Yep.
07:53High teens, if not in the 20s.
07:55I think 20s.
07:56Yeah.
07:57So, yeah.
07:59That's, I've cooled off on that.
08:04But, who knows?
08:06Like, maybe he's just not in the right situation?
08:09I don't know.
08:10The price on him should be, forget about it, you should be able to get him at this point
08:16with everything you just said, didn't catch a pass in London, didn't play the second half
08:20of a 34-31 game or whatever that was.
08:23Correct.
08:23This past Sunday, you should be able to get him for, like, a 5-6 pick swap or something,
08:28I think.
08:29Like, you should not have to pay.
08:31So, that mitigates it.
08:33You want to take a flyer on someone that hasn't produced, that might not be good, but it doesn't
08:39cost me much?
08:40All right.
08:40I can do that.
08:41But, you shouldn't have to pay any kind of a premium for that player anymore.
08:45Last year was maybe the time where that would have happened, and it didn't.
08:48It's so tough, though, for the other team.
08:50Imagine you're the GM of the Jaguars.
08:53It might be someone different.
08:55The guy, Gladstone, is young and kind of new.
08:57I'm not sure he drafted Brian Thomas, so maybe that changes it a little bit.
09:01But, if you're on the other side of that, I mean, how embarrassing is it?
09:06The Texans, rather, the Cardinals did okay, I think, by appearances when trading Harrison.
09:13I mean, it went very badly.
09:15They got a second next year, 28?
09:1828.
09:19Yeah.
09:19For him.
09:20And, like, well, it wasn't working.
09:22It's very similar.
09:24Yep.
09:26Harrison was a much more, I think, I'm not sure everybody would agree with this, but I
09:31would say he was a much more believable prospect than Brian Thomas.
09:36Like, he was elite at Ohio State.
09:41And, then he ends up going to the team where the quarterback was his college quarterback,
09:46which, you know, is more reason to believe in it.
09:48And, he played, so he played nine snaps, Harrison, against Jacksonville.
09:53And, he caught four passes, or four targets, three catches, in that game, I think, in that
09:58game.
09:58Like, he looked, I mean, I don't want to say anything more, I don't need to say anything
10:02more about Houston.
10:04But, yeah, that's, before the season, Aaron Schatz was like, that's the best roster in
10:10the conference, and they started 0-4 in games they led, and now they're 2-4, and look out,
10:18I think, look out.
10:19And, whether Harrison is a big part of that or not, I don't know.
10:24Tell, put it to me.
10:26I would be stunned if he's a big part of it.
10:29Harrison?
10:29Yeah.
10:30Okay.
10:30I just don't, I don't buy it.
10:32But, you don't like Jalen Knoll at all, you've already expressed your hatred for him earlier
10:35in the show.
10:36I just don't know, I just don't know, I don't, I don't play fantasy football, so I don't know
10:40anything about Jalen Knoll.
10:41Yeah.
10:42That's, that's it.
10:46So, put it to me, like, Brian Thomas for a fourth, you're a yes?
10:56I mean, Jacksonville won't do that, right?
10:59I don't know, I just said you should be able to get him for a pick swap.
11:02So, like, a fourth sounds like too much to me.
11:07I think if he's that damaged.
11:09Who are the good receivers on the Bills?
11:10I think I'm just going to sit there.
11:12And, and, I'm not, I'm not going to offer you, I'm not going to offer you, I'm going
11:16to wait for you to tell me what, what you will actually take.
11:21I mean.
11:21I think.
11:22That's what I would do.
11:22If I'm Jacksonville, I'm not doing anything.
11:25If he doesn't play, he doesn't play.
11:28But, guys get hurt.
11:29Constantly.
11:30Yeah, you might end up needing him.
11:31He might end up with opportunity.
11:32That's right.
11:33And, I don't know what might need to change in the back, whether that's attitude or some
11:40sort of technique or some sort of injury, but it's gone so terribly in the last, you
11:46know, 20 games or so for him there.
11:48Anything with Lawrence.
11:49And, they're so good that, like, that could be, you'd like to see maybe a player trade
11:55where they could get better at a different position with him and not just a draft pick,
12:00whether they just give him away for some pick swap.
12:03That doesn't help me if I'm Jacksonville.
12:05I don't need that.
12:06What's the value of that?
12:08Yeah, if he's a problem, which, again, we don't know that he is, right?
12:12He's not playing.
12:13He could be a problem.
12:14He could be unhappy.
12:15They could want to just get anything they can because they want him out of the building.
12:20But, I'm supposing a lot there.
12:21I don't know that any of that is the case.
12:25But, that's how you trade a player the way we just described.
12:29Like, if you're not going to look good doing it, why do it at all?
12:33Why bother?
12:34It's because you just need him out of your building.
12:37And, I have no idea if that's the case.
12:39Well, the Harrison trade is, all right, a second is good enough, and that team is not going to win.
12:48So, all right, fine.
12:50That's what you're describing is Harrison, where, like, we don't need him out of the building necessarily, per se,
12:56but we can get a second, and we're not good, and this isn't working, so all right.
13:01Right.
13:02But, Jacksonville is really good.
13:04So, I would just keep him and see what happens.
13:07Mm-hmm.
13:07I'm not giving him away for a day three draft pick.
13:11Um, that's me.
13:12But, I think that makes sense.
13:15They're on by this week.
13:16Then it's Indianapolis, Baltimore, Tennessee, Giants, Tennessee again.
13:22They're going to be in the playoffs.
13:23They're going to be a 12-win team.
13:27Jacksonville.
13:28I think so.
13:28Yeah.
13:30Mike Schoep and the Bulldog here at 3 Eastern, so 20 minutes or less away, Bill McCreary, long-time NHL
13:37referee.
13:38That'll be fun.
13:38He's got a new book.
13:39We'll talk about that with him and his career on the ice.
13:43We'll talk to Paul Hamilton, speaking of hockey, later on in the show.
13:47Sabres and Flyers tonight.
13:487.30.
13:50Down.
13:50Oh.
13:52Extended pregame coverage.
13:54Mm-hmm.
