00:06We almost saw some J.J. McCarthy magic at MetLife Stadium after Jameis Winston was
00:11binged. Cam Scadaboo gets limited playing time. Those are some of the storylines coming out of
00:17the Giants loss to the Saints on Sunday. What's going on everybody? This is your Blue Rush post

00:29Giants beat writer for the Post Paul Schwartz. Paul let's I mean let's get straight into this
00:36because it was a game that when people said that the Saints were favorites on the road I'm like you
00:44guys are absolutely crazy but someone said you want to know why because Vegas doesn't trust Jameis
00:49Winston so let's Vegas shows that the house always wins. Jameis Winston benched. Your thoughts on how
00:58he played versus J.J. McCarthy coming in to almost save the day and if you're John Harbaugh where do
01:06you go with the quarterback situation going forward? Wow no no no um no drinks no flowers no nothing we're
01:15getting right into the heart of this huh? Right right into it. Yeah we're not we're not messing around
01:21here look this is this is the big decision this is what separates the men from the boys as far
01:26as you
01:27know the NFL uh hierarchy you got one or you don't got one and you have two then it's a
01:32problem if
01:33you're thinking about well what should we do with this guy look injuries are injuries right Jackson
01:38Dart went down they had to replace him with Jameis Winston that's not a decision that's a that's a
01:42situation um now we've got a we've got a um not a controversy yet but we definitely have a discussion
01:49um here's what I think um the Giants have to get out of the experience business when it comes to
01:57the
01:57quarterbacks you know the Jame you know we all have fun with it right the Jameis Winston experience
02:03um it can't be an experience you know and and and he's too much of an experience now I'm not
02:08saying
02:09they should you know bench him and not bring him back but um it's kind of like you know okay
02:14the
02:14experience he's gonna he's gonna do some great things he's gonna do some really bad things
02:17he'll win some games he'll lose some games and you know when the dust clears it'll be interesting and
02:23probably exciting and frustrating and you'll lose a little bit more than you win right okay that's not
02:28that's not a viable way to go um I do think it's a little bit of eye candy and fool's
02:34gold maybe a lot
02:36what we saw in the fourth quarter with Jane with um J.J. McCarthy let's face it you've been on
02:41that
02:42field you know the Saints actually took out some of their starting defensive players and yeah and
02:47Kellen Moore actually afterwards said yeah maybe that was a mistake maybe I shouldn't have done that
02:52we score a touchdown it's 34 to 10 with 11 minutes to go he starts taking some guys out the
02:58Giants are
02:59in complete pass mode J.J. McCarthy's flinging a ball over the place now he flung it pretty darn well
03:05I mean let's face it he throws fastballs out there right I mean he throws you better get your
03:10head around he throws fastballs and he had nothing to lose he threw an interception I mean he threw for
03:15what his his totals of 14 for 26 for no no 11 for 21 for 243 one touchdown one interception
03:26were all in the fourth quarter I mean that's a lot of stuff going on in the fourth quarter so
03:31um
03:31and that's a lot you know did you see the stat that his 243 passing yards in the fourth quarter
03:38were more than Justin Herbert has in any game this season for the Chargers Justin Herbert he's
03:44supposed to be this this massive arm he had J.J. off the bench had more yards in the fourth
03:50quarter
03:50than Herbert has all season in the game what does that tell you that's you know the Saints were in
03:55Prevent they were you know trading you know yards and even points for for time um I'm not going to
04:03make an opinion yet I'm going to let you say yours and then I'm going to go with mine okay
04:07but I just
04:07do think that it was um interesting what happened in the fourth quarter and at least gives us reason
04:14to debate whether J.J. is the starting quarterback in Houston what do you think I've there's three parts
04:21to me and the consensus or so let me break down the three parts the wide receiver you're rubbing
04:29your head it's hard it's it's a hard one no it's not I don't think it is Paul not from
04:34not from here
04:35on out because again there's three parts to me the wide receiver the coach's son and then the the
04:40him see the Giants the the fan the fan in me wants Jameis Winston because it's fun it's exciting when
04:47he's slinging it met like stadiums uh having a good time or just you're you're at a bar you're just
04:53having a good time when Jameis Winston is slinging it the coach's son in me was going with J.J.
04:58McCarthy because head coaches especially a head coach like John Harbaugh he don't do experiences
05:05he doesn't do backup experiences he doesn't he you look at the 18 years he was with the Ravens when
05:11he had Snoop Huntley and those guys step in for Lamar Jackson wasn't saying it was pretty it was
05:17beautiful but he didn't really go through and experience that much with any of those quarterbacks
05:22and then the last part of me that third side the wide receiver side of me says J.J. McCarthy
05:28as well
05:28because they're throwing the football down the field plus you have a quarterback that can be mobile
05:34enough to extend the play you look at some of the deep throw to Malik got out of the pocket
05:40made
05:41something happen threw the football down the field same thing that to Ryan Jones where he made a
05:46remarkable catch and then he had the scramble the big scramble that chunk played to get them down
05:52there to put them in position to try and score to win that football game so if I'm Malik neighbors
05:59or if
06:00I'm Isaiah Likely I don't I don't want I'm John Harbaugh I don't want an experience anymore I want to
06:07go
06:08with the guy who I feel as though is going to give me the better chance to win a football
06:13game
06:13and there's a thing in the NFL and the pro sports when you get to a certain age or you
06:18get enough
06:19veteran experience in the league and you've hit your peak what do they say let's go to the young
06:27guy and see what we can get out of the young guy because we know what the older guy is
06:32going to give
06:33us we know what Jameis Winston is going to give us and for a large part of that game and
06:40the beginning
06:41of the Washington Commanders game he didn't give much didn't give anything so yeah they scored the
06:48opening drive that's great I'll put give that more credit to the coaches scripting the first what 10
06:5515 20 plays after that you're going to get the same blueprint rush for drop seven double Malik and
07:04Isaiah Likely and see if the pass rush can get there to Jameis because he's not going to hurt you
07:09so two out of three parts of me Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde and B London is saying I'm going to
07:17go with JJ
07:18McCarthy from here on now and Jameis if I need you then I need you to step in and hopefully
07:24give us a
07:25good experience I'm I'm team JJ McCarthy on this one that's fine you know you could hear Jameis you know
07:30Jameis has been through it you know he's not going to be blindsided by anything you could tell him after
07:34the game that he was thinking I wish that I put us in better opportunities and I you know you
07:40know
07:40you could tell Jameis is ready for whatever comes next now it's so strange last week in the second
07:46half Jameis was lights out right and you know they're down 14 now he was really bad you know
07:51you you you get behind because of the quarterback and then you you pull even and make you know have

07:56chance to go ahead of camp scatterwood doesn't fumble because of the quarterback so you know in the
08:01second half again in Washington he was great then he was he was you know good on the opening drive
08:06and
08:07then he's really bad he throws two interceptions we get all that um I'm not a believer this is not
08:12high school you know I'm not a believer in oh they owe it to Jameis to let him start in
08:17Houston
08:18there's no owed anymore right there's just no owed I mean it's just not the way it is you owe
08:22a player his contract and his money and his dignity but you don't owe him you know his playing time

08:29just don't um now if you look at this okay so you have one game in Houston against look the
08:36Texans
08:36have have figured it out again you know they were supposed to be a good team they were oh and
08:41four
08:42and you look at it and say wow in a couple of weeks the Giants are playing the Texans they
08:45could be
08:45really bad we know they're not really bad they know they were playing really badly and they do have
08:50top-notch players on defense they've won their last two that was always going to be a difficult game
08:56now more so because the Texans are on a winning streak so you could say and then there's the buy
09:02right so you could say let's give Jameis this game let him start um you know things go well you
09:10know
09:10he's not he's doing enough things to help us win the game he stays in the game if he's no
09:14good we can
09:14pull him again and we can put JJ in and then it's probably going to be JJ moving forward and
09:19then that
09:19might help JJ because Jameis Winston starts this game then you have the buy then you want to make a
09:25move JJ's got two weeks he's got a week off and he you can do even more for him you
09:32know with the
09:33playbook and things like that he'll be more further advanced and he hits the ground running after the
09:37bye week um I just think that that the stuff we saw with JJ in the fourth quarter is not
09:45you know
09:46what did John Harbaugh say that's not normal football he was impressive athletically but
09:51that's not normal football that's not the way he will open up the first quarter against the Texans
09:57I don't think it's any problem right now this is not one game to get into the playoffs
10:02let Jameis start get him ready Jameis is no dummy like I said he knows what's going on let him

10:10plays well he stays in the game um I don't think he gives you no chance to win
10:15at halftime if things are going haywire then you put JJ in and you don't look back um I I

10:20it's okay it's a road game right if it's a home game the fans are going to get restless fans

10:25want the next the new thing they do they do they love Jameis until until now JJ looked really good
10:31um yeah I'm still saying let's not make JJ McCarthy into what we saw in that fourth quarter
10:39yet because that's not that's not the way they're going to play and that's not the quarterback he has
10:45been he's more mobile he can sling it he did throw an interception so I still stay the course with

10:53and then go from there that's my thought you said give him a half okay I'll give him a quarter
11:00I'll give you I will give you a quarter because you don't want to throw JJ McCarthy in the game

11:08the road in the second half and let's say you're down 14 points and expect to get an honest evaluation
11:16of a JJ McCarthy when you're already down two possessions on the road against a really good
11:21football team that's figuring it out getting back to to what they were so I'm I'm with you because I
11:29okay
11:29that wasn't normal football but this is going to trans transition into our next topic when we talk
11:35about scataboo in this run game the reason why I put Jameis on a short short leash I'm allergic to
11:43this kind of this kind of sanity you know what I mean that's why he just sneezed I'm allergic to

11:48I'm I'm I'm trying to I just you see these grays it's not because of a three-year-old it's

11:56because of the three-nager he's hit that age where he's like no dad and talking back no it's
12:01from Giants football watching going on this roller coaster ride of going up down up down like once
12:07once Jackson Dart went down I understood every game was going to be closed it's going to be bad
12:12it was going to come down to you know the one possession games I understood that but I didn't
12:17expect it to go the way that it did that that the way that is it's going so that's what
12:24I'm saying
12:24JJ McCarthy comes in there throws for 243 but then in that one quarter Paul he's also the leading
12:33rusher of the football team in that one quarter of two rushes for 26 yards and a long of 28
12:42so it's
12:44all so the fact that you had to I guess let's say bench cam scataboo John Harbaugh called out the
12:51entire running back room I'm not getting enough that means I have to have a quarterback back there
13:00that can help when it came to the run game Jackson Dart was on fire against the Cowboys but who
13:07was the
13:08team's second leading rusher that game Jackson Dart so the run game isn't helping Jameis and I guess
13:18Jameis not helping the run game like you're not you're not getting you it's not complimentary
13:23football between the player and that part of the offense so that's why I would say JJ McCarthy but
13:29I didn't expect there is times I'm looking around I'm like was cam scataboo a healthy scratch I'm
13:36like where is this dude to one of the security guards when I'm standing on the field he was like
13:40no he's over there standing look like one of those kids at pop Warner that that that knew he wasn't
13:47going to play his mom was like you didn't do the dishes you didn't do your homework you can dress
13:52but
13:52you're not going to play cam scataboo he he looked he looked real lonely on that on the sideline
13:58Paul and I know you guys I have you the game and stuff so give us your thoughts on that
14:04yeah well here's the snap counts for the running backs okay cam got in for six snaps six snaps and
14:10and you know he didn't get a carry and John Arbor said well that we wasn't he wasn't we were
14:14not
14:14giving him the ball we didn't call for running plays there he also you know Harbaugh also said he
14:19wasn't benched you know he was benched he was benched you know he wasn't benched for the whole game
14:24but yet so here this these snap counts make no sense to me cam had uh cam scataboo had six
14:30snaps
14:31now look that was a terrible fumble last week there were repercussions and that was it's not like
14:36he had been running really well this is not a a cook situation in buffalo right where he's running great
14:42but he just can't hold on to the ball you know the running game has not been good and he's
14:47fumbled
14:47four times in the first five games so so to to put him on the shelf for a game is
14:53not unwarranted
14:54you can do that but you have motor singletary devin singletary 29 snaps tyrone tracy jr 26 snaps
15:03nausea harris 11 snaps nausea harris after the game was was confounded you know i was talking to him
15:11after the game and he's like i said well you started right yeah did you expect to get the ball
15:15more and
15:16he was like you know he didn't want to he didn't want to come out and be that guy you
15:20know what i mean
15:20he got four rushing attempts nausea harris for two yards and that was it so you know you start you
15:27know say brandon london you're starting right okay great you're all pumped up and you have a history
15:32of being a really productive guy who starts and then all of a sudden you get out there you run
15:36four
15:36routes and and and and and you don't do anymore so he was he was you know completely befuddled he
15:43said
15:43i've never been in a situation like this where you know i don't know who the guy is you know
15:47tyrone tracy told me we don't have a quote unquote starter you know what you know it was cam scadaboo
15:54now it's not um you know motor singletary was a was a healthy scratch three consecutive games and then
16:01he gets 29 snaps and what four rushing attempts so you know they got to figure it out now now
16:09none of
16:10these guys tech corner you know quote unquote deserves to be the starter based on how they're
16:15playing you got to pick a starter you got to pick a number two running back and you got to
16:19run with
16:20them and ride with them i think you know everybody from naji harris to tyrone tracy even patrick ricard
16:27who's had 11 rushing attempts in 10 years in the nfl said i know running backs they need the ball
16:33they
16:34need playing time to get in a rhythm you know tyrone tracy and naji harris said you can't get in
16:39a
16:39rhythm where you know you get a cat okay i see what the defense is doing here you get another
16:45one okay i see what they're doing now you can figure it out and set them up by the time
16:49that
16:50happens you're out of the game you're not getting the ball so this is on the whole coaching staff um
16:54you know the fumbles are are the players and the lack of production is i think mainly the offensive line
17:01which is not showing any power at the line of scrimmage but these running backs cam scadaboo was taking
17:06too was too fast into the hole you know he he said he said previously oh early in the game
17:12i like to
17:13put a hit on somebody you know i'm not looking to break tackles what are you talking about you should
17:18be looking to break tackles right away you know don't settle for a three yard game get a 10 11

17:22game i think it's all messed up um i would endorse tyrone tracy tyrone tracy had two better seasons with

17:30giants and cam scadaboo has had as a rookie with the giants and into his second year naji harris i
17:37think is
17:37still coming back from an achilles i think he's a he's a an option but you know i think it
17:43should be
17:44tyrone tracy and cam scadaboo and a little bit of the other guys and one guy's not active that's what

17:50here's what someone said to me in the parking lot after the game we're going back and going back and

17:56about i mean i completely agree someone's got to step it up you heard me say it last week and

18:00even before the the the year someone's got to take that title and one of the things i was just

18:47you're not making him right that in the cam scadaboo situation i john harbaugh took heat
18:54post game because everybody's like oh why don't you just keep the field goal from there while you
18:58keep running the football running football i'm trying to help out another player a kicker who
19:03struggled by putting the ball into a guy that you're you're my bell cow you're the guy that i said

19:22it's probation because tyrone tracy jr had to go through the same thing he got jackson dart lit up
19:29he fumbled uh in the preseason then fumbled the first game he had to sit for a bit wait for

19:34op or re-wait for an opportunity had the two touchdowns yesterday look serviceable look good
19:40maybe he gets the bulk of the carries from here on out for him to show but one of these

19:46step up because beyonce's got that song if you like it then you should have put a ring on it

20:52here brought cc mawanoa back in here it should be enough it should be enough this is you guys's
21:01offense and you're giving me absolutely nothing somebody's got to step up brandon what does it
21:08say to you john harbaugh came in right tyrone tracy jr was on the roster camp scataboo was on the
21:13roster right devon singletary was on the roster nausea harris was not so you had scataboo tracy and
21:20singletary who did they want in the draft jeremiah love they wanted jeremiah love they would have taken
21:28jeremiah love they couldn't get him he went you know in the top three picks i'm thinking what does
21:33he want jeremiah love he really wants a running yes he wants a running back he wants his derrick
21:38henry he wants his ray rice he want so he looked at the roster and looked at tracy and scataboo

21:45and singletary and said i want someone better if i can get someone better um you know right that's what
21:53he said he knew he knew so um look they can do better than this and cam scataboo had you

22:00was more effective last year but um look they're gonna have to make it work like you mentioned greg
22:05roman uh matt nagy john harbaugh they're gonna have to make it work um one way or another and um
22:11because you know no matter which quarterback whether it's mccarthy or jamis it's gonna be a problem if
22:16they're running for you know 30 40 yards with their running backs but you say harbaugh looked at the
22:21roster and i was like i see two long time girlfriends but not fiance wifey material i'm
22:27still still looking still still playing the field and all i got a girlfriend now paul so i'm you know
22:32i'm done with all that and she's gonna listen to this and be like why you bring up dating and

22:35this so hope i didn't get myself in trouble with that one uh uh there but uh go ahead wrap

22:40up paul as they get ready to go down to houston and what i call a must win because after
22:45that loss
22:46yesterday i understand the commander's game was a tie but in my head that was a loss now
22:51like that commander's game was a loss in terms of feelings and not being able to take a step or
22:57or take advantage of a nfc east that is pretty banged up and weak right now so final thoughts
23:05going into uh sunday as we prepare to get ready for the week to do uh our our blue rush

23:12okay i don't agree with you that it was like a loss because the cowboys lost to the packers right
23:18the eagles lost to the panthers that that tie could end up being very important near the end of the
23:24year as far as getting the giants to maybe win the division i mean i don't know if they can
23:30sustain that but you know they have their records better than the other teams right now um look it's
23:36a very big week for the giants i don't consider it a must win if they go three three and
23:40one into the
23:40bye once jackson dart went down i mean you have to remember jamis winston was two oh and one in
23:48his
23:48three starts you know you know what i mean so it's not like oh everything went haywire with him he
23:54didn't
23:54play great in a lot of those games but he played they were two oh and one with him as
23:59a starter and
24:00now they're two one and one with him as a starter so um look it's going to be a slog
24:05uh the giants are
24:06you know they weren't going to be a team that's going to win 10 games this year so um but
24:11it's a
24:11very big week to for john harbaugh to say who is my quarterback this is the reason why and i
24:18don't
24:19care if you like it or don't like it you're gonna have to rally around this guy um you know
24:23these this
24:23is the biggest thing around the team is who is the quarterback and sometimes it's very easy to
24:28figure that out sometimes it's not easy this one is i admit this is not easy i can't we could
24:35spend
24:35another two hours and you can say jamis um no you can say mccarthy that's really what you're
24:40saying and i can say jamis and i think we both have really good reasons for yes and really good
24:46reasons for no um we'll see it'll be very interesting this week all right thank you guys
