00:04Not much to report on today in terms of practice.
00:08So this is going to be a little different New York Post Sports post-practice report.
00:12The Giants were just in, I guess, jersey shirts and didn't even wear helmets today
00:18as they went through a walkthrough, jogged through to get ready for Sunday's game against the Titans.
00:24The beat was here.
00:25The New York media was here to hear from John Harbaugh on his quarterback, Jackson Dart,
00:31and the season-ending injury.
00:33Here's Coach Harbaugh on Jackson Dart and getting his team prepared for the rest of the season.
00:40It's a big loss for sure.
00:42I mean, it's your starting quarterback.
00:47It's a tough loss.
00:48What's the timeline?
00:52The regular season at least, I would say.
00:54He's out for the regular season, John?
00:57What is the injury?
00:58Is it meniscus?
01:00It's a knee.
01:02Knee injury.
01:04When you said regular season, are you hopeful that maybe he can come back for the postseason?
01:08Is that what you're saying?
01:09I think I said it.
01:10Yeah.
01:11I said it.
01:12Regular season.
01:15Other than that, how do you know?
01:16There's no way to know.
01:17It just depends on the recovery.
01:19You can't pinpoint it.
01:20I'm just saying, but if the timeline takes you further enough down the line,
01:25then that wouldn't be an option either.
01:28Correct.
01:29So you'll designate it for return?
01:33Probably, yeah.
01:34I guess.
01:35I don't know.
01:36I haven't thought about it.
01:37When is he having surgery, John?
01:38I don't know.
01:41How do you go about, when you have to switch quarterbacks, obviously they have a different
01:45skill set.
01:46How do you go about tailoring the offense now to a new quarterback?
01:51Definitely.
01:51I mean, that's, to me, a big part of it is building a game plan now for Jameis.
01:57You know, he'll be the starter.
01:59So build the game plan for Jameis, suit his skill set.
02:02But the game plan this last week was built for Jackson, obviously.
02:05So this will be an opportunity to do that.
02:07And that's exactly what we'll do.
02:09We'll build around all the things that he does well that are in the offense, which is,
02:14there's plenty in the offense, you know.
02:16So, and then, of course, how to attack Tennessee and their defense and what they do.
02:20So that's what we're doing.
02:22You plan to bring in any other quarterbacks?
02:25We will.
02:26We will plan on doing that, absolutely.
02:27I can't say who at this point, but we're working on that.
02:30Do you prefer a veteran there for that spot?
02:33A veteran as opposed to a rookie like right now?
02:36A younger guy, someone who has experience playing in the NFL.
02:39You know, I think I would probably.
02:41But you kind of got to go with what's available as well.
02:45And you never know if a younger guy comes available that's interesting, you know, that it would fit.
02:51I think we're looking at all that.
02:54It just depends on really what our options end up being.
02:57Would you be open to trading for someone or is it who's available?
02:59I think all options are open.
03:01Yeah, all options are open right now.
03:03Jack's been doing anything.
03:04Have you spoken with him?
03:05Yeah, he was in the meeting this morning.
03:06He was in the meeting.
03:07He was, he was, he's not, you know, I think he's determined, you know.
03:13He's bummed.
03:15He's, it's hard.
03:16It's, it's a, the season's not over, but, but it is for him, you know, and, and we kind
03:23of talked about that too.
03:24That was part of it.
03:25That was part of the deal is like, you know, injuries, there's a certain morning that takes
03:28place.
03:29You know, it was, had the same thing for Calvin, you know, over the, and even over the years
03:33when, because you realize how hard it is for the player really, but it's tough on the
03:36team.
03:37It's tough on all of us.
03:38Uh, but as we said, you know, you wake up in the, uh, you feel like it's the end of
03:43the world.
03:44Then you wake up and it's the world, the world's not done.
03:46You know, the world keeps spinning.
03:48The games keep getting played.
03:50Nobody feels sorry for you.
03:51You know, it's time to go play the next game.
03:53Sunday at one o'clock, ball's going to get kicked off and we're going to have to be the
03:56best football team we can be.
03:57And that's the thing.
03:58It's not a one man game.
03:59It's not like tennis.
04:00You know, you don't forfeit.
04:02We're going to have our team out there.
04:03The Giants are going to roll out into that, into that field out there and play the football
04:07game and we need to be the best Giants we can be.
04:09And that's, that's really the message that you have.
04:12Coach was also asked about if the Giants could possibly trade or bring in another quarterback.
04:19Uh, specifically a lot of people talking online about Jimmy Garoppolo.
04:24He didn't, he didn't name Garoppolo specifically, but he did say all options are open.
04:30So we will see how Jameis Winston plays, how this offense look to see what the Giants are
04:36going to do in the future.
04:37Obviously, you know, you're going to want to bring in some sort of veteran or a coach
04:40even said a young guy that kind of fits the system that makes sense.
04:44Those are guys that kind of take a look at throughout the course of the season, but we
04:48still got a lot of football left to play.
04:51Jameis Winston then came and spoke to the scrum, to the beat, to the reporters.
04:57And he talked about how he's been waiting for his opportunity.
05:00It's his dream to be a starting quarterback.
05:04And of course, seeing Brian Dable and the Titans on Sunday.
05:10One game at a time.
05:12Grateful.
05:14But, you know, most importantly, it's just focusing on one game at a time, doing your best.
05:20This is what I've always dreamed of, to be a starting quarterback.
05:23You know, obviously, my respects and gratitude is just going to be with Jackson.
05:30But at the same time, this is what I dream of.
05:34I dream of being what I am right now and executing at a high level.
05:38It's a beautiful opportunity.
05:40But the remembrance factor is, you know, remembering the triumphs, remembering the failure.
05:48But more importantly, just being present in what's happening right now.
05:54And I'm grateful that my brother continues to challenge me.
05:57He challenged me after the game last week.
05:58But that's what brothers are for.
06:00And my brothers in this organization are going to continue to challenge me.
06:05They're going to continue to push me to be better.
06:07Same thing I'm going to do for them.
06:11It's truly a privilege.
06:13You know, I had this privilege for two games last year, and it truly was an honor.
06:18But for this game alone, you know, my focus is on being my very best, going out there, having elite
06:25fundamentals and precise execution.
06:28And that's what it starts with.
06:30And it's as simple as that.
06:32No matter how big it may seem, you know, being present and focused on, you know, doing all that you
06:39can do with what you have, with where you are.
06:41And for right now, that's, you know, keeping Jackson Spears uplifted and going out there on that football field and
06:49being a New York football giant starting quarterback right now.
06:52You know, there's been a lot of back and forth on Jameis Winston online since the Monday night football game.
06:58Wasn't his best football game.
07:00And I think he'd be the first one to tell you that as well as a competitor and a guy
07:05that's been in that situation before.
07:08But now we get to see Jameis under a full week as QB1, full week with Malik Nabors and throwing
07:15to these wide receivers and with an offense that's kind of tailored around the things that he does well.
07:21Would love to see Jameis.
07:23Obviously, everyone wants to see him throw for 300 yards, three touchdowns and dance and do all the things that
07:29he does.
07:30That's the reason why people fell in love with him and love this guy's personality.
07:35In fact, me being a former wide receiver who's been in this situation, a quarterback goes down and you quickly
07:41have to get up to speed with the QB2, the second string quarterback on the depth chart.
07:47I think it'd be a lot harder in different situations with the Giants and a lot of teams do in
07:53the NFL, especially during the spring in OTA practices and in training camp is before you get that or you
08:03label a receiver group ones, twos and threes.
08:07These guys are going together.
08:09You get reps with multiple quarterbacks.
08:11So guys like Malik Highfields, OBJ, they've gotten reps with Jameis Winston throughout the course of the spring and the
08:22summer.
08:22The only guy who's probably behind, obviously, is Malik Nabors because he was a little bit late getting out there
08:29at full padded practice and practicing with the guys at full speed.
08:33So that's really the only wide receiver he needs to get caught up to speed with going into Sunday.
08:40Again, he's had reps with Isaiah Likely down in White Sofa Springs, West Virginia during training camp.
08:47Theo Johnson as well.
08:49So now it's all about Jameis getting comfortable with this Matt Nagy offense that's now going to be tailored towards
08:54him on Sunday as he goes up against a Robert Salah defense.
08:58We're going to have our Blue Rush preview show that drops on Thursday.
09:04Our Giants beat writer for the post, Paul Schwartz, will be out there, will be on, and we'll talk about
09:10this game at length.
09:12Now it's time to put the Jackson Dart injury to bed right now and look ahead because the Giants still
09:18got a lot of football left.
09:20Wanted to give you guys more.
09:22Wanted to obviously report on a lot more, but not much going on today on the practice side of things.
09:27Obviously it was all about the injury news and where the Giants go heading for it.
09:31Appreciate you guys for watching this post-practice report by the New York Post Sports.
