00:21Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sports, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:26up all of Kent's sporting action.
00:28I'm Finn McDermott and here's what you can expect on Monday the 19th of October.
00:34Dover defeat Dorking, the Whites win over the Wanderers to stay in the FA Cup.
00:41Running Addicts, a man from Herne Bay is bringing those struggling with addiction together to
00:45run.
00:47And from Tunbridge Wells to Turkey, two parents and their toddlers aim to cycle more than a
00:52thousand kilometres for charity.
00:56But first, Gillingham's Nick Freeman has responded to their 3-1 loss against Accrington and has
01:01shared his predictions for Port Vale's redemption.
01:04After a brutal defeat to Accrington's Stanley, the wing-backers admitted his team were just
01:08not at it, calling their poor play a bad day at the office.
01:12But he also credits Accrington for their relentless tactics, showing no ill will for his competition,
01:17insisting it's up to his own team to rally each other and bounce back for their home fixture
01:21against Port Vale on Tuesday.
01:22He emphasised his optimism for a great atmosphere and confidence in his team's skill, celebrating
01:28a good season alongside them and their staff.
01:32Midstone manager Craig Fagan says he's absolutely delighted with their victory against Maidenhead.
01:39The Stones beat the opposition 2-1 at the Gallagher Stadium.
01:42United had only previously won two of their seven games at their home stadium.
01:46Craig Fagan was happy with his team's performance, especially given the intensity the fans deserve.
01:52Both Leone Gravata and Taylor Foran scored, giving them a 2-0 lead, but Maidenhead fought
01:58back, scoring their lone goal.
02:01Tombridge Juddians have smashed in the Rams with their biggest win margin to date.
02:06Despite the Rams being the first to score and three yellow cards across both teams stalling
02:11the game, the Juddians are keeping pace with Plymouth Albion at the top of the National
02:15League One after a 30-point victory against their opponents.
02:18With 49 points to 19, they celebrate a new scoring record alongside their sixth win of
02:24the season.
02:26It wasn't the same story for Canterbury.
02:28They suffered a late 34-32 loss in the National League Two East, as Barnes got the better of
02:33them again.
02:34The City side started well with hooker Lucas Ewell finishing a driving maul and Lucas Hollidge
02:39converting.
02:40A botched restart and a penalty gave Barnes the territory needed for the catch-and-drive try that
02:45brought the scores level early on.
02:47A Hollidge penalty goal going into the final ten minutes left the City side defending a
02:51five-point advantage.
02:52Canterbury next play Westcombe Park later this month.
02:56Zach Crawley has signed his extension with Kent Cricket.
03:00Former England test opener Crawley extended his contract back in February and has now signed
03:04a further year's extension in another boost for the club after winning promotion to County
03:08Championship Division One last month.
03:11The 28-year-old has made more than 180 appearances for his home county since making his full first
03:17team debut back in 2017.
03:19The Director of Cricket, Simon Cook, said we're extremely pleased that Zach has extended
03:23his contract with the club, what will be his 11th season in our first team.
03:28The Invicta Dynamos head coach has said there were some cruel moments in their two defeats
03:32on the ice this weekend.
03:33The Moes faced off against the Streatham Redhawks in the Challenge Cup on Sunday, coming close
03:38to victory in a 5-3 home defeat.
03:40That was off the back of a 4-1 loss against Slough Jets on Saturday.
03:44Lennon said there were parts of Saturday's game which they really liked but there were
03:47a couple of moments where we switched off and it cost us.
03:50The Moes are next in action at home to Chelmsford Chieftains next Sunday in the Challenge Cup.
03:56Next up, you may remember back in Maidstone's FA Cup run there was a Maidstone fan who fell
04:02into opposing fans at Ipswich Town when he's now been cleared of assault.
04:06John Ryan was watching the Stones play at Portman Road during that historic FA Cup match
04:10in 2024 when he fell from an upper tier onto unsuspecting Ipswich fans.
04:15The whole thing was caught on camera with the 62-year-old Chatham local later charged
04:19with one count of assault by beating and one count of actual bodily harm.
04:23He went on trial at Ipswich Crown Court but was found not guilty by a jury recently.
04:28He previously told jurors he was unable to stop himself during goal celebrations in the
04:32biggest match in the club's history.
04:35Now let's take a look back at this weekend's football results with Dover beating Dorking
04:40in the FA Cup.
04:42Starting us off with Dover who are the last Kent side standing in the FA Cup aside from the
04:47Jills who will join in the first round proper.
04:49Will Dover be able to keep on course to cruise into that first round or will Dorking Wanderers
04:54cut off Kent's last non-league side from the competition?
04:57Dover playing in the black and white, Dorking in yellow, they're dispossessed, taken to the
05:01edge of the box by Ewan Williams over the Jack Bates, no one on him, he hits it, what a
05:06strike past former Jills goalkeeper Glenn Morris.
05:09Lovely head of the ball to open the scoring today, he's over to the home support, great start
05:13for the Whites.
05:15Dorking are quick to respond, it's sent over to the striker, beats his man, beats the keeper
05:19as well and some clever footwork slots it into the far corner to equalise in under 5 minutes.
05:26Dorking playing with the ball at the back, Dover putting on the pressure, Luke Baptiste
05:30tackles, he gets a touch and he goes down inside the box and the ref points to the spot, it's
05:34going to be a penalty.
05:36D'Carrie Sheriff lines up to take it and no hesitation into the top corner, laying down
05:41the law here in Dover, celebrating with a backflip and the message is clear, this cup isn't
05:47big enough for the two of us.
05:49And coming back from the half-time break, it's played to the left wing, waiting for a
06:05far corner, it's not a fast shot but it will do.
06:08A brilliant through ball to Lennon Lewis, he skips across the edge of the box and even
06:12as he's falling he shoots and finds the back of the net, putting the deficit down to 1-3-2
06:17here at the Crabble.
06:18Dorking did their best but they just couldn't outdo the goals from Bates and Sheriff, sinking
06:22their hopes of making it to the FA Cup first round proper, but Dover have made it through.
06:27And let's hear what the manager had to say after the game.
06:30Is this your proudest moment, you know, you've got Dover promoted, he's one of the proudest
06:32moment, you wanted a cup run and you've got one.
06:34Yeah, I think, like I said, we wanted a cup run for the club, you know, obviously for the
06:38new guys, putting in a lot of money for them, you know, just to bring the whole town up and
06:43obviously, you know, we've seen in the past what a good cup run can do and, you know, hopefully
06:47we get a good draw and, like I say, absolutely delighted, you know, Holt Dorking gave a great
06:52account of themselves and it was a really good cup time, a really good game and so pleased
06:56to come out as the winners.
06:58For the other National League Southside, it was only league fixtures for them.
07:01Maidstone continuing their top of the table dominance to stay in first place thanks to a victory
07:06over Maidenhead, Tunbridge Angels managed a win against Hemel Hempstead, Folkestone beat
07:10out AFC Totten two goals to one and Ebbsfleet have come out swinging, a blistering six goals
07:15to West and Supermares one, with Kwesi Appiah getting a hat-trick, the other goals coming
07:19from Gene Kennedy, Daniel Ogunle and Charlie Seaman.
07:24Next the Stones will skip along to Torquay, the Angels fly to Chelmsford, Folkestone will face
07:28Dover in the Kent Senior Cup and Ebbsfleet will hope to continue their high-scoring habit against
07:33Torsham at home.
07:34It was high-scoring for the Jills as well this weekend, just not in the direction they hoped.
07:39Three netted by Accrington Stanley, the Jills getting only one in reply.
07:44They'll host Port Vale at Priestfield for their next fixture.
07:47Lastly down to the Itzmian league premier and it was a tough match week, Ramsgate losing
07:51to Wingate and Finchley on the road, Dartford losing to AFC Whiteleaf and Chatham's defeat
07:55by Averley makes it 0-3 for Kent's lower-tier teams this weekend.
07:59Ramsgate will look to pick up points against Stanway Rovers at home, while the Darts head
08:03to Brentwood Town and Chatham will go to the capital to face off against Dulwich Hamlet.
08:07And that's all for your Football Roundup.
08:10A man in Hearn Bay who has set up a weekly running group for those whose lives have been
08:14affected by addiction says he wants to share the benefits of exercise with other addicts.
08:19Jamie Taylor, who turned his obsession with alcohol into an obsession with running, created
08:23running addicts to build a local community of like-minded people.
08:26Justine Lata has the story.
08:29This is Jamie Taylor.
08:31After battling his own addiction with alcohol, he set up a running club in Hearn Bay to support
08:38others whose lives may have been affected by addiction.
08:42For Jamie, running has been instrumental in his recovery.
08:46So I got sober about seven and a half years ago and running for me was a huge part of
08:50that
08:51journey. So when I first got sober, I could barely run for 10 minutes. But it was something
08:57that I persevered with. It had been part of my life previously. And quite frankly, I moved
09:02my obsession with alcohol over to a obsession with running. And the first thing that running
09:07did was really to calm me down and to focus my mind into another area.
09:10In 2021, approximately 3% of all deaths in Kent were alcohol related, two thirds of which were
09:19related to alcohol misuse. Jamie hopes his running group will help to bring people struggling together.
09:26People take up running for all sorts of different reasons. But for those who are struggling with
09:31addiction, why is exercise such a great way to combat it?
09:35We see that people that exercise live longer, they're healthier, they are happier. So I think
09:41in all of those ways, it is naturally giving people some of what they're looking for in their
09:48addiction. The running group is a brilliant idea because what you've got there is the fellowship,
09:51you've got the community. Perhaps if you don't turn up, someone might call you and go,
09:55oh, are you coming tonight? And then, you know, it's harder to slip back into drinking because
09:59you've got people that are kind of missing you or looking out for you.
10:02This was Craig Rouse's first week at the group and he said, for him, community is what running
10:09is all about. I've been a recovering alcoholic myself. This ticks all my boxes. I'm addicted
10:14to running as well. It's sort of my mental health therapy that I need to get through, you know.
10:20I've also got a diagnosis of all the HD as well, so running cards my mind. So it's nice to
10:25have an
10:25initiative near to me which I can take part in. Just getting people talking is helping people move
10:31forward. You know, a lot of healing gets done when you're talking about, when you're talking
10:35about issues that affect you. And I've always found that being out in nature, being by the seaside,
10:40being out running, being out with people, gets people talking.
10:43This is only the beginning for running addicts, as Jamie hopes to expand the reach of the group
10:49across the county and to bring more people struggling with addiction together. Justine Lata,
10:55for KMTV in Herne Bay.
10:59If you or anyone you know is struggling with addiction, you can find local support by calling
11:03with you Kent on 01795 500811.

11:35alerts to choose from too, including all the latest news from Priestfield.
11:40Now we've reached half-time, which means it's time for a break. But coming up, we'll head down to
11:45Kings Hill FC. They've hosted their biggest ever SCND football tournament, giving more than 200
11:50students from across Kent the chance to compete. We'll have all that and more after this very short break.
11:55See you in a few minutes.
13:01Bye.
13:03Bye.
13:34Bye.
13:35Bye.
14:01Bye.
14:03Bye.
14:30Bye.
14:56Bye.
15:15Hello and welcome back to Invicta Sport live here on KMTV. Now, Kingshill, FC, has hosted
15:21its biggest ever SCND football tournament, giving more than 200 students from across
15:26Kent the chance to compete. Now in its fourth year, the event brings together players, coaches
15:31and volunteers to help break down barriers to the sport. But with opportunities still
15:36limited for children with additional needs, the club is determined to keep driving change.
15:41Our reporter Maisie Walker went down to find out more.
15:44Kings Hill FC hosted its biggest ever SCND football tournament, aiming to tackle the
15:50lack of sporting opportunities for children with additional needs across the county.
15:55The pitches were packed with students from across Kent, and from the moment the first
16:00whistle blew, it wasn't just the players who had to stay on their toes.
16:04This is the fourth school disability tournament Kings Hill has hosted, and over 200 students
16:09are here competing for that final place.
16:12The tournament was made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers and coaches, who give up
16:18their time, to support events across the club.
16:21We've gone from zero to around 80 players within Kings Hill Football Club, so to be able to
16:26get the schools from zero to 200 players within a couple of years, it means quite a lot, and
16:33we've got aspirations to make that bigger. We've got plans in for a second 3G at Kings Hill,
16:39and if we can get that, it would mean that we can increase this to potentially 400 players,
16:44because we've got schools on the waiting list for today that couldn't come, because we're
16:49at capacity.
16:50They are opportunities that perhaps don't exist as much as they should for the SCND community,
16:57also they allow children to network, meet other children, they create a sense of belonging for
17:04those young people to be able to come out and represent their school, and to be able to be physically
17:10active,
17:12you know, there's so many benefits to that for these young people.
17:15But what did the students make of the tournament?
17:17Oh, it was great fun, great opportunity for people throughout different years, especially
17:24like my school, because we have two different age groups that we did two different teams for.
17:31I loved it here. I'm really thankful for a lot of my team, and we coped with it during tough
17:36battles.
17:37And tough battles being the rain, how did you cope with that?
17:41Very, very hard, obviously, but I had to use my coat and my jumper to keep me warm,
17:45but I think my team kept me going.
17:47What was the best part, would you say?
17:49When I scored.
17:51And what did it feel like when you scored? Were you proud of yourself?
17:53Yeah. If I play well, I can get like a really good team and maybe get like pro.
18:01While there is still a long way to go to ensure children with additional needs have equal access
18:07to sport, the team at Kings Hill FC are determined to keep pushing for change,
18:12long after the final whistle blows.
18:16Maisie Walker for KMTV in Kings Hill.
18:20Now it's time to remind you, you can keep up to date with all the latest sports news,
18:24interviews and features from here on Invicta Sport by heading over to our website,
18:28KMTV and clicking on the programs tab.
18:30There you'll see videos in Invicta Sport like this one.
18:34We're halfway through the Wimbledon Championships and Kent locals are having a ball,
18:38keeping up to date with the tournament and celebrating the season.
18:41I'm here in Staplehurst to celebrate Wimbledon 2026 with the staff and residents of Abbotsley Care Centre.
18:47Abbotsley holds an annual celebration for staff, residents and family to gather and enjoy the
18:51tennis as well as good company and themed activities. I spoke with Alina who helped to spearhead this event.
18:57This is our fifth anniversary. Everything started back in 2022 and it's a special event,
19:05very close to our heart. We wanted to offer our residents and their loved ones an experience as
19:13close as possible to the original event. This is an opportunity for our residents and their families
19:20to build beautiful relationships with other people from the local community and residents and staff
19:28and family members of our sisterhood. Events like these highlight the importance of community and
19:33togetherness, especially for more vulnerable groups such as the elderly and the support it provides for
19:38not only residents but also loved ones. It's really important, we're really sociable animals and it's
19:45good for companionship, it's good for people to get together and we've got four homes here together
19:52now and for residents to see each other it's really really nice. I think it's a really great day,
19:58it's a nice thing to do, it gets all the residents outdoors, everyone's having a great time,
20:04the sun's shining, we've got tennis over there, couldn't be much better than that could it really.
20:09It's lovely, very nice, it's nice to see my husband outside for once.
20:14Oh it's a fantastic day, you know beautiful weather, everyone's having a great time, barbecue,
20:19food, really great day. Whether they're here for the gameplay or the strawberries and cream,
20:23I asked everyone about their favourite part of the celebration.
20:25Yeah, great to see my dad here, my dad's a resident so it's great to come down and support
20:30the care home and what a fantastic occasion. The food. Just looking forward to strawberries and cream.
20:39So my favourite part of the day, obviously apart from dressing up as John McEnroe and looking this
20:44magnificent, is the community. We've got multi-generations of people, we have professional
20:50tennis players over there, so for me it's that sense of an opportunity for us all to get together
20:54and not be working and have a really good time together. Well it was certainly an ace of a day
20:59for
20:59residents here at Abbotsley. Chloe Smith for KMTV in Staplehurst.
21:04Now for any parents watching, you'll know just how hard it is to take your young toddlers with
21:10you on holiday. Well, one woman from Tunbridge is taking that to the extreme. She's heading to
21:15Turkey to cycle a thousand kilometres with her toddler, her friend and her friend's toddler.
21:21This all came after she had a life-changing injury that means she now takes every day as an adventure.
21:26I spoke to Vanessa Ruck earlier all about this exciting trip.
21:31Well, thank you so much for joining me, Vanessa. I mean, first of all,
21:34just tell us a bit about the origin story. Where did this all start for you?
21:38I mean, that's a big question. So I actually would say it probably started back in 2014 when I got
21:43hit
21:44by a car while cycling and it kind of just sideboard life. I was really fit, adventurous, a gentleman
21:49junkie and life as I knew it completely changed. I had a seven-year recovery, seven surgeries,
21:55reconstructed right shoulder, right hip. I now live and manage chronic pain. And it was during my recovery
22:00that my mindset, my attitude, my world kind of changed even more. And I still live and manage chronic
22:09pain. I've got 95% certainty of needing more hip surgery, but I kind of got to this mindset where
22:14I realized that I need to get up every single day and make the most of life. And through that
22:19journey,
22:20really bad mental health side as well, depression, fear of the road, change disorder.
22:25I discovered motorbikes partly because of the determination of not letting the accident
22:30completely define me. I knew I needed to get back out there. And what I didn't realize is when you
22:36get
22:36a motorbike because they kind of breed and when you get one, then you want another one and then you
22:40want another one. And then before you know it, there's nine in the garage. And I started racing.
22:45I was actually bedbound when I got my first off-road motorcycle. So it was five months just sat there
22:50before I could even sit on it. But it was there as a goal, as something I was working towards
22:55on those
22:55days when I wanted to give up and I was in too much pain. Anyway, this journey has continued. I
23:00did the
23:00original Dakar back in 2024. It does really big races. And then in 2024, my life changed again,
23:07quite dramatically and very inversely. And that was me becoming a mum. And there's loads of us out there
23:14that have become mums, become parents, and it really is life changing. And there's an element,
23:20especially when you're so fit and active, where you kind of look in the mirror and you go,
23:24I don't really recognise you anymore. You're just sort of like, you're just a mum. And I decided it
23:30was really important that I found a way to be Vanessa and mum. And I want my little girl Skylar
23:36to
23:38see the world as a get up and go, as anything's possible, to chase your dreams kind of thing. So
23:44we are going to Turkey.
23:46Wow. Well, I think there's certainly parents out there who are thinking,
23:50I struggle enough to take my toddler on a holiday to Spain, just walking around. I mean,
23:55tell us a bit about the logistics and about the plan of taking your young children over to Turkey.
24:00It's 1000 kilometres. Is that right?
24:03That's what we're hoping to do. We have a route planned. And it's over 21,000 metres of elevation,
24:10which is two and a half times height of Everest that we're planning to cycle carrying everything
24:14like little tortoises. The logistics and the planning have been insane. Like I've been running
24:20around like a headless chicken, or I should say headless turkey, right? Boom, boom. But the reality
24:25is that our two little kids are going to be completely dependent on us. We don't know how far we're
24:31going
24:31to get each day. There might be days where the two little ones just don't want to go on the
24:35bikes,
24:35or our legs are hurting, or we're struggling with nappy changing, whatever it is. But we've tried to plan
24:41for all the different things that could happen. So we've got so many different toys. You've got to
24:48plan for the unexpected, plan for A, B, C, D. Hopefully, we're not going to make it to Z.
24:52Now, we are going to be in a country where this isn't something that people typically do.
24:57If you did Land's End of John O'Groats, which is an incredible achievement of the length of the UK,
25:03there are books, there are websites, there are guides, there are how-tos, there's a huge infrastructure,
25:08there's where to stay, where to eat, all that kind of stuff. We're going to be on a complete open
25:14page
25:14of who knows in Turkey. Yes, we've planned a route, but we don't really know what the conditions are
25:20going to be. The weather's going to vary from zero degrees up in the Cabocian mountains through to
25:28maybe 28 degrees further south. So we've got to have all of the equipment, the clothing for us,
25:34the kiddies, for the rain, for the heat, the cold. We've got all our camping kit, because we are going
25:39to be camping quite a bit as well, because there's not always going to be accommodation where we are.
25:43So we've had to factor all of that stuff in. There's an element of risk that we're aware of,
25:48which is why we've got a friend, Gary, on the ground in Turkey in a motor home. So he's going
25:53to
25:53be carrying our spares, our tools, and be our kitchen food, because we cannot carry everything.
25:59But ultimately, we're not booking accommodation. We're going to see how far we get,
26:03figure out whether we're putting our tent up or finding a last minute Airbnb and just going with it.
26:10Great to chat to Vanessa there ahead of her trip. That is full time on today's episode
26:15of Invictus Sport. As always, if you want more from KMTV, you can head over to our website,
26:20kmtv.co.uk, where all of our special shows are available to watch back on demand. And don't forget
26:26to follow us on our social media on Facebook and TikTok. You can keep up with the latest from Invictus
26:31Sport
26:31on there as well. And if you have a sports story, maybe you run a club or know an up
26:35-and-coming
26:35athlete who deserves the spotlight, then make sure to let us know. And it might just be featured next
26:40time. I'm always on the lookout for Nisha Sports. If you're underwater hockey, if you're fencing,
26:45let me know what you've got going on. But that is all the time we have.
26:47Thank you so much for watching. We'll see you very soon. Goodbye.
