00:20Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:25up all of Kent's sporting action.
00:27I'm Finn McDermott and here's what you can expect on Monday the 13th of April.
00:33Angels Delight, Tunbridge win a five-goal thriller at home against Salisbury.
00:40Beginning, oh apologies there, turn to Starboard, veteran charity Moors in Chatham to teach sailing.
00:47And beginning at Brands Hatch, the British Touring Car Championship holds season opener on the West Kemp track.
00:56But first, let's have a round up of our headlines.
00:59And first off, the Gillingham goalkeeper Glenn Morris has saluted the impact of the centre-half pairing of Andy Smith
01:05and Sam Gale
01:05after back-to-back clean sheets for the Gills.
01:08Smith and Gale have started the last two games as the centre-half pairing and helped the Gills to successive
01:14clean sheets
01:14against Accrington-Stanley and Salford City.
01:17A 2-0 win on Easter Monday was followed by a hard-fought 0-0 draw away at Salford on
01:22Saturday.
01:22And despite their young age, Morris said their performances have overtaken their experience.
01:29Now, continuing over to cricket now, we can have a look at the news there.
01:34It's hopes of a draw for Kent in their county championship match.
01:38That's up against Northamptonshire and it's not looking good after a difficult third day in Canterbury on Sunday.
01:45The day started out with some hope for the team with Ben Compton and Sam North East offering up some
01:50half-centuries.
01:51Momentum shifting back to Northamptonshire with some late wickets.
01:55Now, Kent trailed the Midlands club by more than 300 runs going into the final day
01:59and Compton says they just have to try and back the whole day in hopes that they can turn the
02:03situation around.
02:05Over to rugby now, Tunbridge Juddians made sure of National League One rugby next season with a 33-24 home
02:11win over Clifton.
02:13The hosts didn't take long to get on the front foot and Will Holling was driven over from an attacking
02:18line-out.
02:19The win, however, took Connor Lloyd's conversion attempt wide.
02:22More points were added five minutes later when Shaden Asgood powered over the centre and Lloyd made it 12-0.
02:30Clifton managed to slow things down for the next 20 minutes as both sides struggled to get any flow in
02:35their game.
02:36The visitors did score the next try but as the half drew to a close, the TJs combined well in
02:41attack to see off the game.
02:43Next, Medway were relegated from the Regional One South East on the last day of the regular season on Saturday
02:48following a 32-12 loss at Westcliff.
02:51They were promoted last year and a drop out of the division by the narrowest of margins level on 43
02:57points with Amersham and Chiltern.
02:59Medway's points difference sends them down.
03:01They started brightly applying pressure deep inside but an early knock-on denied them a chance to take the lead.
03:06After they broke down into midfield, the hosts struck on the counter breaking clear to score under the posts for
03:11a 7-0 lead.
03:15Now we have some more ice hockey news for you.
03:18The Invicta Dynamos season ended last weekend with a semi-final playoff loss to the Southampton, the Slough Jets.
03:26The Moes had battled hard to keep the scoreline down to a 2-0 deficit heading to Gillingham on Sunday.
03:31But the Jets showed their qualities to win 7-3 in the return leg to secure their place in this
03:35weekend's final.
03:36It was a tough one for Moes head coach Carl Lennon to take his team after they'd kept the Jets
03:41at bay for most of the first game.
03:43He said,
03:43I felt like we could beat them, we have beaten them, but ultimately they were deserving winners and deserving finalists.
03:50And now with some more football news.
03:53In the Kent Merritt Under-14 Girls Cup final, Sittingbourne Youth beat Aylesford 11-0.
03:58Five late goals secured an emphatic scoreline which was rather harsh on Aylesford who finished it with ten players.
04:05The Sittingbourne both Jonathan Hales said,
04:07I'm really proud of the girls, they played really well forward and were clinical going forward.
04:12It was a great performance and they're glad they enjoyed it.
04:15Let's take a look back at the weekend's football results.
04:19Well, it's a good feeling for Angels fans as they've managed to confirm their place in the National League South
04:23for another season.
04:25And now only Pride lays on the line as they play host to Salisbury who've had a fairly average past
04:30run of games, two wins, two losses and a draw.
04:33But how will they fare in their trip to West Kent?
04:35Well, the Angels have an identical record so it could go either way.
04:43And it's a corner from Bailey Akehurst flicked in at the near post.
04:46Jordan Thompson flicks it on to put the Angels ahead at Longmead Stadium.
04:50Took a bit of a deflection there but I don't think either man will mind too much.
04:54Former Gilles man Scott Wagstaff picks it up and he lays it off to Bunmi Babajide.
04:58Goes up and over to Frankie Baker but it's called offside.
05:05Wagstaff sends it to the right wing, picked up by Tom Lee.
05:08He cuts inside and rockets it straight past Will Bewes.
05:11Hits the top left corner to put Dunbridge up, two goals to nothing.
05:14It's looking like the Whites are being totally locked out of this game.
05:18Salisbury burst down the right, they play it off to Noah Coppin.
05:20He holds it up well, turns and he gets a deflection on it but worked well to bring them back
05:24into this game.
05:26A great strike from Coppin.
05:28Akehurst is on the corner again, we have a first half repeat here.
05:31It's a good delivery and it's Ethan Sutcliffe who gets on the end of it and just places it past
05:35Bewes.
05:36Salisbury are looking hungry for another one, played into the centre of the park.
05:40A line breaking pass there from Olly Morgan over to Josh Hedges and laid into the back of the net
05:44by Nathan Odoconiero.
05:46But is it enough?
05:48Not quite as the whistle blows.
05:50An entertaining game of football to be sure, five goals in it with the Angels just flying higher than their
05:54competition.
05:55Elsewhere in the National League South, the Stones travelled to Horsham but came away with only the lone point.
06:00Aldova hosted Farnborough and had to take three goals on the chin at the Crabble Stadium.
06:04Walib's fleet suffered a 1-0 loss away to Hornchurch.
06:06Not a great weekend for the league's Kent sides but hopefully there will be more points to grab at their
06:10next outings.
06:11The Angels will hope to avenge Dover with an away fixture to Farnborough.
06:15The Stones will face Worthing at home.
06:16The Whites will face Maidenhead on the road.
06:18And the fleet will look for a better scoreline after they've played 90 minutes against Hampton and Richmond Borough.
06:24And it was a goalless draw awaiting Gillingham fans as they travel to watch the Gilles face Salford as we
06:28get closer to the end of this season.
06:30Any points, or in this case point, are good to have.
06:33They'll be facing off against Cheltenham next at Priestfield.
06:35And down to the Isthmian Premier, Dartford managed to fire four past Canvey Island in a strong away showing.
06:41With Chatham copying their homework, scoring the same number again against Wingate and Finchley.
06:46And while there wasn't as much luck for Ramsgate who took one goal without reply against Bicklerickie Towne and Whitehawk
06:51drew 2-2.
06:52Coming up, Dartford travel to Chichester and will hope to keep that fiery away form hot.
06:57The Chats will travel to Potters Bar Town, but can they keep their scoring habit on the road as well?
07:01Well, Ramsgate will host Hashtag United, a team that asks to be relegated automatically.
07:05And Folkestone will travel to Cray Valley Paper Mills.
07:08And that's all for this week's Football Roundup.
07:11Well, it might have been a goal-fest for some teams there, including Chatham, Dartford and Tunbridge Angels, as we
07:20saw with that five-goal thriller.
07:22But it wasn't quite the same for the League Two side Gillingham.
07:26As I say there, it was a nil-nil clash against Salford.
07:30A long 90 minutes, but with crucial saves coming in from Glen Morris.
07:34Our resident Chills fan and student journalist, Tom Fullegar, joined me in the studio earlier to talk about the game
07:39and some more Chills news.
07:41Let's have a look.
07:42Talk to us a bit about the match.
07:44Obviously a nil-nil result, but was that the expectation coming into it?
07:47I don't think so. I think actually I would have expected a loss. I mean, Salford away is a hard
07:52away day.
07:54They'd normally beat us. And they really had a lot of chances.
07:58And I think we dug in, but we also were a bit lucky that they weren't able to score.
08:02We could have won it at the end if we were a little bit better. But Glen Morris, superb, really
08:08did keep us in the game.
08:10Absolutely. What makes it such a difficult away day? Is it the travelling maybe all the way up to Salford?
08:15Yeah, I think so. I think they're a strong team anyway. Obviously they're co-owned by Class of 92 as
08:23well.
08:23So there's obviously a lot of success in the board of it. But yeah, I think going up north is
08:30always going to be a trick for us.
08:31And that's the problem with this league. Most of the teams are up north, so it is a lot of
08:35travelling.
08:36But yeah, I'm pretty sure they beat us early in the season as well. So it's not the expectation to
08:42get a point there.
08:43It's interesting you say that about the Class of 92 being involved. I hear this thing all about the DNA
08:47of a club a lot of the time,
08:49which I think is quite interesting. Obviously, you know, I think Paul Scholes is part of the ownership over there.
08:55If you had to pick out an MVP from across the pitch for Gillingham, who would you choose?
09:02Just on the day? Yeah, just of that match.
09:04Glen Morris, definitely. Yeah, that double save at the end. I mean, he was superb in the game as well.
09:09We didn't really have any chances, so it was not really anyone else out on the pitch to be up
09:15for that MVP.
09:16But yeah, no, he's superb. I mean, he does mostly have good games.
09:20I think this season we've seen a couple of little bad ones, but mostly I think he's good.
09:26I think I would keep him from the end of the season as well.
09:28I think even if he stayed at the club as a goalkeeping coach, I mean, all that experience, he'd be
09:34great to keep on.
09:35Absolutely. I mean, there were sort of spells where he wasn't with, he wasn't giving much playing time just because
09:40of his injury
09:41and Jake Turner had to go between the sticks, but you're happy to sort of see him back in that
09:44position.
09:45Yeah, yeah, definitely. I think that that injury that he suffered, I think that was against Salford actually.
09:50Yeah, it was the first kick of the game when I think he felt like he sort of looked like
09:55he fell over, but yeah, he pulled something up.
09:56And I thought as soon as that happened, I think up to that point, he was really consistent.
10:00And then, yeah, Jake Turner come in and first couple of games, he had a couple of moments, but he
10:05got his form back.
10:06But yeah, unfortunately, I think it's sort of Turner-Morris sort of rotation and neither one's really excelling at the
10:13moment.
10:13But I think Morris is just edging it, yeah.
10:16Absolutely. We haven't got much time now, but I want to quickly bring up some good news.
10:20Bradley Dac has extended his contract with the Gills. Are you excited about that?
10:24Oh, brilliant news. I mean, for me, he's got to be the skipper next season.
10:28His leadership, I think he leads with the quality and also with the experience.
10:35But yeah, he really gets us going out of nothing. I think he is that player that can change the
10:39game.
10:40And it's absolutely brilliant. He's staying on because, you know, I think most people thought maybe he would just get
10:45a season or two out of him.
10:46But yeah, brilliant news.
10:48I see. And with that in mind, obviously, I don't think any Gilligan fans are going to be complaining that
10:53Dac signed on for more time.
10:55But tell us a bit about our next fixture. I believe it's Cheltenham in the midweek and then Grimsby after
11:01that.
11:01How are you feeling about those?
11:02Yeah, I mean, Cheltenham could definitely be a winnable game.
11:05I think they're sort of sitting mid-table. So bring it on.
11:10But Grimsby, when we visited them early in the season, we lost one nil.
11:16That was really unfortunate. I think Hutton got sent off for something that I didn't think was a red card.
11:20And we got given a penalty against us. That just wasn't a penalty, in my opinion.
11:25But they're a tough team to play against.
11:29Now, we have reached half-time, which means it's time for a break.
11:33But coming up, we'll hear about the British Touring Car Championship they've been preparing for the 2026 calendar
11:39with their season opener last week at the Brands Hatch race circuit.
11:42Also, docking at the historic dockyard in Chatham, the Full Circle Expedition will be teaching veterans sailing
11:48and raise awareness of the Invictus Games taking place next year.
11:52We'll hear all about that. And a grammar school in Kent, in Maidstone specifically, who managed to win a national
11:57trophy.
11:58All that and more in a few minutes.
12:23in the beginning, I think you had happy that you were supposed to win,
12:23That tongue couches behind you戦 more in a hill.
12:27thunder with your mumky more.
12:43You won't see your携席 of of the Gir Mohimaan Vergleiche try other狄.

15:16Hello and welcome back to Invicta Sport Live here on KMTV.
15:20Now, let's get started with some racing.
15:22As the British Touring Car Championship has been preparing for the 2026 calendar
15:26with its season opener held last week at the Brands Hatch Race Circuit in West Kent.
15:31Our reporter, Tim Forster, went down to the circuit to find out more.
15:37The thundering sound of engines can be heard as the British Touring Car Championship returns
15:41to the Brands Hatch race circuit for the season opener. The event marks the beginning of the
15:46series' 69th season and offers teams and drivers a final opportunity to test cars before the
15:52first round at Donington Park on the 18th of April.
15:552026 has started really well for us, we had a great pre-season test at Croft, at the right
16:01end of the timesheets, very happy with that. We've made some changes in the office in the
16:06off-season and that's beginning to reap rewards already.
16:10But what is it about the BTCC series that draws in so many drivers and attracts a global fanbase?
16:17I've grown up watching British Touring Cars and I just love the spectacle of it. I love
16:22the close action on the racing, I love the sound of the cars, the way they look. It's just,
16:27for me, in Europe certainly this is the most exciting racing you will see.
16:32It was here at Brands Hatch back in 1957 that the very first British Shaloon Car Championship race
16:37was held. That year saw the time to come down to the head-to-head battle between Tommy Sockwith
16:43and Jack Sears. And at the final round of the season, again held at the Kentish circuit,
16:48it was Sears who claimed victory. But it's been almost 70 years since that inaugural season
16:53and though the name may have changed, the competitive spirit remains the same.
16:57End of the season is really about how many points we score. If we score enough points,
17:02things like the Independent Drivers' Championship, the Independent Teams' Championship,
17:06Jack Sears will take care of themselves. We're only interested in winning this year.
17:10There are familiar faces returning to the paddock as well. Jason Plater began his BTCC career as a driver.
17:1730 years later, with two championship titles to his name, he's back, this time as a team owner.
17:23But what does this new role entail?
17:25Well, first thing is I look at when the drivers touch things, like they drive their wing mirrors
17:31or their front wings into tyres. I have a different feeling now to when I was in the car,
17:36because I just see pounds going out the window. I mean, it's very different. It's not easy,
17:42because I want to be in the car. I've got itchy feet.
17:44With competition high and drivers and teams eager to get out on the track,
17:48the season is off to a flying start.
17:53Next, after nearly two years of planning, veteran sailing charity,
17:57Turn to Starboard is sailing 2,000 miles across the UK and has paid a visit to Kent.
18:02Docking at the historic dockyard in Chatham, the Full Circle Expedition has been teaching
18:06veterans sailing and raising awareness of the Invictus Games that are taking place next year.
18:10Our community reporter Henry Luck has the story.
18:13Turn to Starboard has paid a visit to Chatham's historic dockyard,
18:20to raise awareness of the skill of sailing.
18:25Sailing across the UK on the two tall ships,
18:29Pilyeu and Spirits of Falmouth, this cruise mission began in Falmouth last month,
18:38intending to journey 2,000 miles and visit 22 ports around the country.
18:48It is amazing and actually each port is different. So I'm a lifelong sailor and that's why I decided to
18:54help
18:55the charity in my retirement. But the opportunities it's even given me, as someone who's sailed
19:01all over the world, in different places, to actually explore the different ports on the journey around,
19:07is already proving amazing. You know, coming up the river into Chatham yesterday was a unique experience,
19:11and being able to berth here in the dockyard is really fantastic. And the group of trustees and the
19:17charity was so grateful to the dockyard for their support in this.
19:20Chatham historic dockyard is just the fifth stop for this group, and as you can imagine,
19:25by the sounds of the river Medway, the wind and the seagulls above, it's constantly an exciting adventure.
19:34As well as promoting the Invictus Games taking place next year, this charity is also raising awareness
19:43of how sailing can not only bring joy, but save lives.
19:49We say at the charity at Turner Starbird that we get to change lives, and very occasionally we get to
19:57save a life in terms of helping people to address the challenges that they find in post-service life.
20:07Personally, I think it's really, really important work. That thing of changing people's lives and
20:13occasionally saving their life, I don't think that's much more important in life.
20:18The organisation was even paid a visit from Medway Council's Vince Maple,
20:24who talked about how vital their work is, especially since Medway has an above average population of veterans.
20:35Well, it's fantastic to be on board the Pellew, which is taking part in the turn to starboard full circle.
20:42This is a voyage of two ships around the UK. Fantastic to join the crew here, and it's really
20:50important for us here in Chatham and wider Medway, recognising our naval and history on the water,
20:58to welcome such great vessels to our community. With this team's journey set to continue,
21:05there are hopes for smooth and merry sailing on their mission. Bon voyage turned to starboard.
21:14Henry Luck for KMTV in Medway. Now it's time to remind you you can keep up to date with all
21:22the
21:22latest sports news interviews and features from here on Invictus Sport by going over to our website.
21:28There you'll see videos like this one about the KMTV team trying out Paddle.
21:32Paddle is taking over the UK, with more than 1,000 courts across the country, a huge increase from only
21:3850
21:38in 2019 and more than 400,000 players. So I thought as KMTV's resident sports guy that I'd show you
21:45the
21:45do's and don'ts of the court. Now it seems to be fairly simple on paper, but there's quite a few
21:50rules to be aware of, whether you're a beginner baller or a pro paddler. So to help me try out
21:55the
21:55sport, I've assembled some of KMTV's finest. Now it has to be played in double, so we'll be doing a
22:002v2 match.
22:01Winners will get supreme bragging rights in the office and be crowned the KMTV 2026 Paddle Champions. Let's play.
22:09We're Team Paddle Rangers. And we're Team Finale.
22:15And we were off. For some quick rules, you have to serve behind the line. The ball can bounce once
22:19on the
22:19ground and wall, but not on the first serve. And if it hits the back wall or the side right
22:24away, then it's your
22:25opponent's point. The game is played with the same scoring system as tennis. You have to win six games
22:30with a two-game lead. And to win a game, you need to get four points with a two-point
22:33advantage.
22:34We decided to play only three games and in the end, Team Finale won two to one. But it was
22:39pretty close.
22:40So I decided if I wanted to take my game elsewhere, I should probably seek more expert opinion.
22:45I do think it's quite useful to maybe watch a bit. I think there's the first premier paddle
22:51event in London coming up in the summer. That will be broadcast on TV. I think people could
22:58access watching Paddle on YouTube. And I think that just kind of gets people a general sense of
23:02how the game works, helps them understand the rules, and then they can come in and they can
23:06sort of have that perspective before they start. Platform 26 is an office space rental company
23:11that decided to add paddle courts to their venue due to the growing popularity of the sport.
23:16It's been a really good move for the community. It's elevated the business centre. It's just
23:22created such a nice atmosphere. We meet so many nice people. So many people have such a genuine love
23:28for the sport. We've got lots of new customers. I think the paddle, people just seem to love it
23:33because it's such a social sport and it's so inclusive. So you can come along, get some exercise
23:39in, but also catch up with friends and family, meet new friends. With Paddle popping up more and more
23:45around Kent and the country, I'd say the ball's in your court if you want to get involved in the
23:49low
23:49impact social sport just in time for the sun coming out. Finn McDermid for KMTV in Medway.
23:56And finally, a grammar school is celebrated winning a national Vars tournament at Twickenham.
24:01Maidstone Grammar School's rugby team emerged victorious after a tense penalty shootout against
24:06Dame Allen School, ending the game 22 to 21. The mayor of Maidstone invited the team to the
24:11town hall to congratulate them on their incredible success. Our community reporter Henry Luck went down
24:16to find out more. It all came down to this. One last penalty shot. But Maidstone Grammar
24:25school made it happen. Defeating Newcastle's Dame Allen School and winning the Continental Tyres
24:35School under 18's phase tournament. The final result being 22 to 21. To celebrate,
24:44the mayor of Maidstone invited the team to the town hall, allowing them to bask in their glory.
24:53I'm absolutely delighted. This is why I invited Maidstone Grammar School's team to the town hall
25:01in an official civic reception because if it's team Maidstone, whatever we have to do in Maidstone
25:08that we deserve to celebrate, then we should celebrate and I should introduce them and show
25:13them the town hall and commend them as the mayor. This has been in the making for Maidstone Grammar
25:20School for over 20 years and living near Maidstone myself, I can't help but feel great pride for this
25:30local team. The team's head coach says this victory goes beyond just training and playing to win.
25:39It was all about grit, determination and team spirit which showed when player Ian Coveney scored
25:50the winning goal. They're an incredibly hard working bunch of boys and we've spoken a lot about pride and
