00:18Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:23up all of Kent's sporting action.
00:25I'm Finn McDermott and here's what you can expect on Monday, the 16th of February.
00:31Agony for Ainsworth, Gillingham lose their unbeaten streak with a tough away match.
00:38Cricketer return, the Spitfire team sees the return of one of their former players back
00:43to the squad.
00:45And Weston, well-equipped Tunbridge Wells skeleton athlete, takes home double goals.
00:54Well, Gillingham did not have a great Valentine's as they lost 1-0 against Crewe.
01:00Now, they had decent chances compared to Crewe, but they just couldn't score past keeper Ian
01:06Lawler.
01:07Now, Crewe's one goal was enough to move them into the playoff positions.
01:11But Jill's striker, Sam Vokes, commented on the game, saying the team felt deflated and
01:16frustrated, but that they'll reflect and go again on Tuesday.
01:19The striker did insist there were positives to take despite the defeat.
01:23The Jills are now nine points off the playoff and face a Chesterfield side sitting just below
01:28the top seven.
01:29Next, Plymouth Albion players welcome the Tunbridge Juddians to Brickfield on Saturday.
01:35An early penalty sets off from Tunbridge 3-0 after seven minutes.
01:39Shortly after, Albion went on the attack and from the beginning, they were soon over for
01:43their first converted try.
01:45Ten minutes later, the Plymouth team gathered together and put their full energy into a
01:49catch and fell over the line.
01:50Tunbridge tailed 12-3.
01:52The teams started the second half strongly, and Tunbridge continued the attacking approach,
01:57losing by six.
01:58Albion win with the score, finishing as 26-20.
02:02Next, Albion will be facing another game with Birmingham-Moseley on Saturday, the 21st of
02:06February.
02:08Now, Kent Cricket's captain, Daniel Bell Drummond, has hailed the returning Sam Northeast as one
02:13of the best batsmen on the county circuit.
02:17Northeast rejoined Kent on a two-year deal after being with Glamorgan for four seasons.
02:22Bell Drummond is welcoming his return, saying he's one of the best batters in the country,
02:26so it's always going to bring a positive response.
02:29Matt Milners has also agreed to rejoin Kent on a three-year contract.
02:34Bell Drummond also commented on this, saying he obviously had a tricky period at Yorkshire
02:38injury-wise, but he's a class bowler.
02:42Invicta Dynamos claimed a win last weekend with Streatham Redhawks, and now their new focus
02:46will be facing off against the Chelmsford Chieftains.
02:50Dynamos had a great start in winning away 4-2 against the Redhawks.
02:54Last Saturday's win left head coach Carl Lennon buzzing.
02:57He said, away from home, a set-out crowd in Streatham.
03:00It was an amazing performance, nothing short of spectacular from the guys.
03:04Fred Ketteringham from Herne Bay, a part of Warren Boxing Management, wins in his debut
03:09at the York Hall in London.
03:12There's confidence for the boxer, as Danny Fitzgerald thinks there's a bright future for him.
03:16He said, Fred isn't just starting a professional boxing career, he's been rebuilding himself
03:21over the last 14 months.
03:23A healthy contingent of supporters headed to the capital to get behind Ketteringham,
03:26who is an avid Herne Bay FC supporter.
03:29According to Fitzgerald, Ketteringham's next fight will be in March at the Electric Ballroom in Camden.
03:34Two women from Broadstairs have qualified for the High Rocks World Championships in June.
03:39Jane Fisher and Carol Silk, both above the age of 60, set themselves a goal of training
03:43for the High Rocks event, combining 8K of running with eight indoor workouts.
03:48They didn't realise at the finish line they had come second in their age category,
03:51beaten only by two Team GB athletes.
03:54They said it was a complete fluke.
03:56We didn't have any idea we would be in that position.
03:59Now, let's take a look back at this weekend's football results.
04:02Hello and welcome to this week's football round-up.
04:06Ebbsfleet are currently sitting inside the play-off positions,
04:09but if they want a certified semi-final start, they'll have to collect some more points along the way.
04:14And they're playing host to AFC Totten, whose inconsistent form has left them around the lower end of the mid
04:20-table.
04:21It is a Valentine's Day where fans will hope the sides will play with their hearts on their sleeves.
04:25Well, the first threat comes from the right side.
04:28Seaman over to Finlay Barnes, who puts the ebbs up 1-0 in the 23rd minute.
04:34A good left-footed shot to see the one up at home at Stonebridge Road.
04:38Next, it's floating around the box.
04:40Chapman places it past one and hits a half-volley and hits it for 2-0.
04:45Ben Chapman, two goals in three minutes for the fleet.
04:49What a strike.
04:51Next, a swinging-in corner.
04:53Jake Hessentiler takes a touch and just leathers it into the roof of the net.
04:57What a finish.
04:59No chance for Totten's keeper there.
05:01The former Chelsea youth product and Gilligan player showing some of that pedigree with a third for the fleet.
05:07Totten are being totally locked out here in the first half.
05:11Hopefully, they might have some more luck in the next.
05:14Ball is switched over to the right side.
05:16Barnes takes it and he shoots and what a goal.
05:20His second of the game makes it 4-0.
05:23What an unexpected goal.
05:24Ryan Gosley can only stand there and look at it.
05:27Absolutely brilliant from Barnes this match.
05:30And that is it.
05:32Full-time and four goals to nil at Stonebridge Road.
05:36Ebbsfleet are still in the race for a top finish, while Totten will need to pick up points to avoid
05:41a slippery slope near the end of the season.
05:45Elsewhere in the National League South, it was a disappointing result for Maidstone, who travelled away to Chippenham, while Tunbridge
05:51had a heartbreaker.
05:52A five-goal game that tipped the wrong way for the Angels away to Hornchurch and Dover saw their clash
05:57against Enfield postponed.
06:00Coming up, Ebbsfleet will make the trip away to Chesham United.
06:03Maidstone will face Chelmsford, Tunbridge head to Chippenham and Dover will host Western Supermare.
06:09Up to League Two now and the Gilles suffered a 1-0 loss against Crewe Alexandra, who are currently on
06:14a five-game win streak.
06:16The lone goal from striker Adrian Thibault means the Gilles currently sit in 14th and they'll face off against Chesterfield
06:23in the midweek with hopes of a return to winning ways.
06:27Now down to the Itzmian League Premier and Chatham held Grey Wanderers to a draw at their Academy Stadium.
06:33Folkton and Invicta continued their six-game unbeaten streak with a sound win against Dulwich Hamlet.
06:39Dartford lost on the road against Potters Bar Town and Ramsgate fired three past Brentwood Town.
06:45Coming up, Chatham will face Welling, Invicta will play Hashtag and Dartford will host Cray Wanderers, while Ramsgate will make
06:51the trip along the M25 to play Karsholton.
06:54That's all for your football round-up this week.
06:57Well done to Ebbsfleet, Folkston and Dartford who gave their fans something to be happy about on Valentine's.
07:02And hopefully love was in the air just as much as limbs were.
07:05See you next week.
07:07Well, for all you Gilles fans who didn't make the away trip and might be scratching your heads at that
07:121-0 result, or maybe not, maybe you've come to expect it.
07:15Well, whatever the case, I spoke with our resident Gilles fan and student journalist Tom Fullagart earlier to get all
07:21the details on the match.
07:23And Tom joins me in the studio now.
07:25So, Tom, talk us through that first half.
07:28I mean, it's a 1-0 game, a loss away.
07:31Tell us just about the match in general.
07:33Well, we actually started off all right, to be fair.
07:35Folk's had quite a few chances and Hale too.
07:38Hale probably should have put us in front.
07:40But again, just not making the most of it and then come out second half puffing and just losing all
07:44that momentum that we built and, yeah, falling apart.
07:47So just a bit toothless up front, really?
07:50Yeah, I don't know, really.
07:52Like, Hale playing on the left, I'd like to have a winger on the left and Vokes and Hale up
07:59top together rather than that.
08:00I don't really think it works.
08:03Yeah, toothless is a way of putting it.
08:06I think Vokes had a better game, but again, those chances should be putting away, really.
08:11Do you think Hale plays better up at centre-forward or striker?
08:15To be fair, he's doing a good job saying he's not naturally a winger.
08:19You know, he's not naturally playing on the left.
08:22But he's still creating chances, so give him his due.
08:25He's doing all right.
08:27I see, and Gale didn't start again.
08:29What do you make of that choice to bring him off of the bench?
08:31I'm a bit confused by it all, to be honest.
08:32I don't really know why he's been moved to right-back, because for me, he's always been great in the
08:39middle.
08:39He gets back so quickly.
08:42Right-back, he's not got that attacking presence that maybe Hutton does, but just because he's not been as great
08:51right-back doesn't mean you bench him completely.
08:55And, you know, Agamaya and Beckels have been all right, but Gale has literally been our best player this season,
09:01so no idea why he's being benched.
09:04I see.
09:04And tell us a bit about that lone goal that the Dills suffered.
09:08Tell us, was it really a sort of a matchmaker?
09:12It's just a very poor goal to concede.
09:14It just gets past everyone.
09:16Yeah, very, very poor defended.
09:19You know, if we did have Gale in the middle, then maybe that would have been different.
09:22But, yeah, coming on that right side, it just gets past everyone, just tucked in.
09:27But, again, I think we're losing a lot of battles in the air as well.
09:29A lot of second balls we're not really fighting for.
09:32It just seems to be a lack of fight in the team.
09:35I see.
09:36And you mentioned earlier some of those new signings, Beckels and so on and so forth.
09:39Tell us, Antwi, he doesn't seem to be getting much minutes.
09:43Tell us about that.
09:44Yeah, I can't make a judgement on him because I haven't really seen a lot of him this season.
09:48I think a lot of people were saying that he was sort of like a Dak back-up,
09:52but then him and Dak were both on the bench.
09:56I don't really know if he's more of an attacking midfielder or a defensive midfielder.
10:00I don't know because he comes on for about ten minutes.
10:02And I think, like, when he come on, I can't remember the first game he come on,
10:07I thought he looked all right.
10:08He had the fire, he had the passion.
10:10I don't know why he's not just giving a start
10:12because he's promising, he's young, he's got it.
10:16I see.
10:17And the Gills will face off against Chesterfield next.
10:20Tell us a bit about how you think that might go.
10:22Well, I mean, when we had them at home, it was my favourite game of the season.
10:25You know, Sereno scored in his debut, you know, that 4-1.
10:28They just, you know, they came as a really good side.
10:32You know, they're now, you say, seventh or eighth?
10:35Yeah.
10:36They're doing all right.
10:37They're doing, you know, better than us.
10:39So, let's just take it to them, you know.
10:41There's not a lot to fight for this season, but we do still have pride.
10:46So, bring it home, Gills.
10:48Absolutely, yeah.
10:49And like you mentioned there, they are currently sitting in eighth,
10:52just one place below Crewe.
10:53So, fingers crossed, the Gills can make something happen there.
10:56But, well, we'll have to see at the weekend.
10:57Thank you so much, Tom.
11:00Now, it looks like we have reached half time,
11:04which means it is time for a break.
11:05But coming up, we'll take a look at a broadstairs man
11:07who's training for an ultramarathon that involves dragging a tyre across the beach.
11:12Also, I challenged Josh Bennett,
11:14who trained the star of the 2025 film Marty Supreme in a table tennis match.
11:19Now, my production assistants here have written that I lost horribly.
11:22I think I lost with some level of dignity,
11:24but I suppose you'll just have to watch and find out for yourself.
11:27We'll also be discussing the medals won by the real athletes, not me,
11:31by Team GB at the Winter Olympics.
11:33This includes a first-time gold in a men's skeleton by Matt Weston.
11:37We'll have all that after the break.
11:39And for a sneak peek, the champion Josh Bennett told me
11:42that I wouldn't take a single point off of him.
11:44And like I say, you'll just have to watch to find out.
11:47All that and more after this short break.
11:49See you in just a few minutes.
12:03See you in just a few minutes.
12:50See you in just a few minutes.
12:52See you in just a few minutes.ー
12:53Yeah. Thank
13:21you in just a few minutes. See
13:22.
13:52.
14:22.
14:57.
15:11Hello and welcome back to Invicta Sport Live here on KMTV.
15:16As always, don't forget you can keep up to date with all your latest stories from across
15:20Kent by logging on to our website, that's kmtv.co.uk.
15:24There you'll find all our reports, including this one, about a man who's dragging a tyre
15:28across Broadstairs Beach to train for an ultramarathon in the Arctic.
15:33Here in Kent, the weather isn't always our best friend, but one man from Broadstairs
15:37seems to have made it his personal enemy.
15:40Dragging a tyre from Broadstairs Beach along the coastline to Ramsgate is a regular task
15:45for Rob Wilkinson, who was born and raised in the town.
15:48The weight of the tyre and the friction of the sand is supposed to mimic the resistance
15:52of a sled being dragged across snow, all to make sure Rob is ready for hauling his food,
15:57kit and survival gear for ten days across the Arctic.
16:01So it's called the Lapland Arctic Ultra.
16:03It's just over 500 kilometres across the Arctic, fully self-supported.
16:08I'll be putting a sled.
16:10It's going to be pretty chilly.
16:12They've told me to prepare for temperatures down to minus 40, which is no joke.
16:17It feels a bit like today, I think.
16:21And, yeah, it's going to be interesting, that's for sure.
16:25As I said, I think it's just a combination of constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone
16:31and seeing how far I can go.
16:34Rob's been told by others that the Lapland Arctic Ultra is quite a difficult challenge.
16:39But Rob has done others that he hopes will prepare him for the gruelling distance.
16:44So I've done quite a few different endurance events.
16:48In 2019, I was part of the No Man campaign and that was a race with eight ocean rowing boats,
16:56four man teams and over five days we rode across the Mediterranean or part of the Mediterranean.
17:01A couple of years ago, I took part in something called the Fat Viking and nothing to do with how
17:09I look.
17:10It was an ultra-endurance bike ride on mountain bikes with fat tyres, hence the name.
17:17And I rode non-stop for 24 hours and 40 minutes and that was pretty brutal.
17:25The challenge isn't just for Rob to see if he can complete it,
17:28but also to raise money for Kent Search and Rescue as well as Fallen Field Special Needs School.
17:33When he heads off in March, temperatures will reach as low as minus 40 degrees
17:37and he'll have to cover around 500 kilometres, which is equal to roughly 10 ultra-marathons back-to-back.
17:44Naturally, this had me wondering, is training on Broadstairs Beach with a tyre really enough?
17:48Well, I would come to regret that question, as well as not checking the weather before I set off this
17:53morning.
17:54Well, it's definitely quite heavy and I can't really imagine dragging this across the Arctic,
18:00let alone across Broadstairs Beach.
18:03Finn McDermott for KMTV in Broadstairs.
18:09And if you like a slightly gentler sport, don't forget you can keep up to date with all the latest

18:35Now, some of Kent's cinema goers may have caught Timothee Chalamet's latest film, Marty Supreme, that sees a victory-hungry
18:41table tennis pro in the 1950s.
18:44The film features England's real-life number 14, Josh Bennett, who came down to Medway Park Sports Centre to teach
18:50some aspiring players some new moves that he taught to the film's star.
18:54He also was actually in the film and I challenged him to a game.
19:00Timothee Chalamet and Marty Supreme have been breaking the box office, making millions and raking in awards.
19:06So when Medway Sports Park had table tennis set up for 40 schools this week, they decided to bring in
19:11one England professional who's also an actor from the film to show off his skills.
19:15They basically said, come down, we've got this massive event, they've got obviously two days of tournaments happening yesterday and
19:21today.
19:22So, yeah, I was like, yeah, happy days, I'll come down, it'd be nice to meet everybody and, yeah, show
19:27my face basically, so.
19:29Josh is the number 14 table tennis player in the country, and got involved with the film after being sent
19:34a casting call from Table Tennis England,
19:36before doing auditions and being flown out to New York, where he was in the film, and also helped train
19:41Timothy behind the scenes.
19:42So he had a whole training regime himself, I'm sure you've heard him speak about it, you know, the whole
19:48process.
19:49He was started, you know, a good six, seven years ago from The Sounds of Things, but I was only
19:53out there just briefly before the start of the film.
19:55And, yeah, I did sessions with him, so like rehearsing, and gave little tips and tricks here and there, and,
20:03yeah, it was awesome to meet him,
20:05and obviously to see, you know, see someone like him playing table tennis as well for the film, it was
20:09pretty cool.
20:10Josh also showed off some of the items he'd kept from the set, including a poster with his character on
20:15it,
20:15and a signed bat from Koto Kawaguchi, another pro who played Koto Endo in the film.
20:20He also gave out autographs to some of Medway's aspiring players.
20:23Do you say tonight's made you like table tennis a little bit more, maybe a little bit less?
20:27I don't know, it depends how much you've been winning.
20:28A bit more.
20:30Yeah, I like playing table tennis in my free time, because it's like you can get with the community, and
20:35it's like you can make friends.
20:36But Josh wasn't the only one signing autographs.
20:40Well, you know, we always are looking for the talent here in Medway, and that's from every field,
20:45whether that's sports, entertainment, even journalism.
20:48So from that perspective, I'm really proud of the kind of individuals that stepped forward.
20:53And nights like tonight, you know, many people perhaps, more mature people who perhaps play table tennis for fun.
20:59Again, coming to see an international player like Josh is a real rare opportunity in this particular sport,
21:05but it's something we're very proud we do in Medway all the time.
21:08Vince refused my offer of a game, so I asked Josh, who said he wouldn't let me take a single
21:13point.
21:13Now it's time for me to play Josh himself.
21:16He's ranked the England number one in Marty's Supreme and the England number 14 in real life.
21:21Time to see his skills for myself.
21:26Well, I think I'll leave it to the pros, both for table tennis and for acting.
21:31Finn McDermid for KMTV in Medway.
21:38Oscar-worthy acting from yours truly there.
21:41Now next, nearly two weeks ago, the Winter Olympics kicked off in Milano Cortina.
21:46Now currently, Team GB have three gold medals, with an athlete from Tunbridge Wells winning two of those.
21:51Matt Weston became the first man to win an Olympic gold for Great Britain in the skeleton event.
21:55From skeleton to bobsleigh, our reporter Etalee Reynolds joins me now to chat more about the Winter Games.
22:02Etalee, am I saying that? Is it bobsleigh or bobsled?
22:05I thought I always pronounce it bobsleigh, but I might be getting it wrong then, bobsleigh.
22:09Well, write in, write us an email, tell us how we're terrible. No, we're not.
22:14Let's go. First of all, talk me through these two gold medals.
22:16Yes. So on Friday, Weston gained that first gold medal in the men's single skeleton competition.
22:23This marked the first gold medal in skeleton for Team GB, ever.
22:28And it marked the team's first gold medal in this year's Olympics.
22:32In his final run, it was timed at 55.61 seconds, incredibly fast down that track,
22:39which made his overall time three minutes and 43.33 seconds, which again, incredibly fast.
22:47It's why he's got the gold.
22:49Moving on to Saturday, alongside Tabby Stoker, Weston helped to gain that second gold medal in the mixed skeleton team.
22:57After the penultimate run, the pair was actually 0.3 seconds off from that gold.
23:02But Weston came in and he managed to close that gap between them and the silver medalists.
23:07Absolutely amazing. And amazing to have an athlete from Tunbridge Wells winning on the global stage.
23:15Tell me about the bobsled as well.
23:17Yes. So the bobsled, Taylor Lawrence from Thanet is competing alongside his teammate Brad Hall in the two-man bobsled.
23:25After Monday, the pair finished eighth. Their first run was at 55.65 seconds.
23:30And in their second, it was actually longer and slower at 55.89 seconds.
23:37The current leaders are 1.64 seconds clear of Lawrence and Hall.
23:42And runs three and four will take place tomorrow with the gold medal run believing to take place just after
23:48eight.
23:49I believe it's about five past eight, that gold medal run.
23:52So I'll be sat watching, see if Kent can bring another medal home.
23:56That would be amazing. Tell me a bit about the ratio actually.
23:59So let's say, right now I believe two-thirds of our gold medals have come from Kent and this is
24:05Matt Weston.
24:06Yes, this is Matt Weston.
24:07Yes, from Matt Weston.
24:07With one of the two.
24:08This is him celebrating his solo skeleton run from the other day.
24:12Amazing. Amazing. Where's that third medal come from out of curiosity?
24:14So that third medal has come from the mixed team snowboarding cross.
24:20So again, we've got an ice sport and a snow sport.
24:24Two ice sports with the bobsled as well there.
24:26So I'm excited to see how Team GB are going to get on for the rest of the competition there.
24:31Absolutely. Unpopular opinion.
24:32I think they've got, you know, stand Olympics.
24:35They've got Winter Olympics.
24:36They should do like a Summer Olympics, I think.
24:38A Summer Olympics.
24:39Just turn the heat up.
24:40Turn off the AC.
24:41Just make it really hot.
24:42I don't know.
24:42We'll see.
24:42Don't steal that, anyone.
24:44That's mine.
24:45But yeah, well, thank you so much, Ethelie.
24:46I think that's all the time we have.
24:48No worries.
24:48See you soon.
24:49Now, don't forget, you can keep up to date with all the latest football news by reading
24:53Kent Online.
24:55But did you also know you can have your weekly digest of Jill's news sent directly to your
25:00email inbox?
25:01Apologies about that.
25:02I think that was the incorrect thing.
25:05You're supposed to be seeing some lovely graphics telling you about how you can sign up
25:08on the website for all the latest written transfer news, match reports and your interviews.
25:12And well, if the Jill's isn't your cup of tea, there we go.
25:15There's plenty more email alerts to choose from.
25:17You can also get all the latest non-league football news as well.
25:20But like I say, those lovely graphics there, you can see you can get all your non-league
25:24news as well.
25:25Brilliant.
25:26But that is full time on today's episode of Invicta Sport.
25:31Now, yeah, if you want more from KMTV, you can head over to our website.
25:36That is, of course, kmtv.co.uk where all of our special shows are available to watch back
25:41on demand.
25:42And don't forget, you can follow us on social media at kmtv underscore Kent where you can
25:47message me about how stupid this Summer Olympics idea is.
25:49Or you can keep up with the latest from Invicta Sport on at kmtv sport.
25:54Now, if you have a sports story, maybe you run a club or know an up and coming athlete
25:58who definitely deserves the spotlight.
26:00Make sure to let us know and it might be featured next time.
26:03I do have to say my favorite Winter Olympic sport would probably be ice hockey.
26:07I really do love all those stories.
26:09I don't know if you've seen it.
26:10There's a great documentary out there that tells us all about the miracle of 80 where
26:14the US national team at ice hockey, all amateurs, managed to beat the Soviets.
26:19A very good documentary, but not as good, I should say, as Invicta Sport.
26:23We'll be back next Monday with more sporting action from across Kent.
26:27But for now, like I say, that is all the time we have.
26:30Keep an eye out on your socials for all the latest sports news.
26:34You can follow us on our sports social as well and watch more episodes of Invicta Sport as they come
26:39out.
26:40See you every Monday and I'll see you next Monday.
26:42Good night.
