00:12Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:16up all of Kent's sporting action. I'm Finn McDermott and here's what you can expect this
00:21Monday. Back in the green, Kent MS Therapy Centre on course to save more lives thanks to golf.
00:33And goals for the Jills. The Jills win 1-0 away at Barrow. And hockey club hurt. Cliftonville
00:40team left without a home following a school merger. But first, a round-up of your headlines
00:48and midfielder Robbie McKenzie said he hopes that his last-minute goal will boost morale
00:52for the Jills. On Saturday, the Jills were in a stalemate away at Barrow in a League Two
00:57showdown. It was looking like another week of misery for Gillian with the score at 0-0.
01:02But in the 13th minute of extra time, Robbie McKenzie put it into the back of the net.
01:06The last gasp winner ended the run of three straight losses for the Jills and they claimed
01:10their first win over Barrow since 1967. McKenzie said that can lift us up and give us good confidence
01:16going into the next game. All we can look at is the next game.
01:22Next, Maidstone United manager George Elokobi says Taylor Foran is getting back to his best
01:27after injury. Foran was outstanding at the back as the Stearns collected another clean
01:32sheet in a 1-0 National League South win against Salisbury. At 22, the former Arsenal youngster
01:37is one of the most vocal players in the team. And he certainly made himself hurt at the Ray
01:41Mack Stadium on Saturday. Elokobi loves the vocal side to Foran's game and understood where
01:46his centre half was coming from. He said he's got that in him. Those are the leadership qualities
01:49to ensure you can organise, can you affect, can you impact other players away from the ball.
01:54It's not coming from a bad place, it's coming from a good place. And he added that Taylor
01:58is getting back to the Taylor that we know.
02:02Next, we'll be bringing you some rugby news as Canterbury fought their way to a 51-33 win
02:06over National League 2 East title chasers Undel on Saturday at home.
02:11Trailing 28-7 at the break, the City side's total domination of the next 40 minutes stunned
02:16their opponents with six tries and a lesson in discipline and game management. The visitors
02:21who had overwhelmed league leaders Old Albanians 45-14 the previous week had every right to
02:26feel they'd done another good job, with four first half tries and a bonus point secured.
02:31Canterbury cured many of their set-piece problems that plagued them in the first period, kept
02:35up the pressure and caused Undel to lose their discipline, helping them to complete a great
02:39comeback. Fifth place to Canterbury returned to league action at London Welsh who were 10th
02:43on the 14th of March.
02:45Staying with rugby and the Tunbridge Juddians got back to winning ways in National League
02:481 with a 31-28 victory away at Sedgley Park.
02:53Having played the top three squads in the division in the last three rounds and losing
02:57them all, the Judds came out of the blocks quickly and Louis Yeltama intercepted a park attack
03:01to speed over for the first try within a few minutes. Five minutes later Connor Lloyd sniped
03:06with a quick tap and with Lloyd converting both scores, the Jays were up and running at
03:1114-0. Park were beaten 56-0 at the Slade back in November and simply couldn't afford another
03:17thrashing. They started to come back but time ran out for them, leaving Juddians 7th in the
03:21standings. Tunbridge returned to action at the Slade on March 14th against fourth place
03:25Sale.
03:26Next, Ditton's Barry Hawkins ends a three-year wait for a ranking title with a 9-5 win over
03:32Jack Lesowski at the Welsh Open.
03:35Hawkins was up against Jack Lesowski in the final at Venue Cymru in Lelanduno and seemingly
03:41cruising after winning seven of the first eight frames. But needing just two for his first
03:45Welsh crown, the Ditton Potter lost the first three of the evening session. A fortunate red
03:50in frame 12 paved the way for a 68 break to get the Hawk back on course. But he had
03:55to wait one
03:55more frame after the Soskis' run of 53 made it 8-5. That was as good as it got for
04:00the
04:00Cheltenham man though and Hawkins, who registered wins over former world champions Mark Williams and
04:04Neil Robertson on his way to the final, took frame 14-70 to one. Hawkins said it means the
04:09world really. I've come close a couple of times last season to a couple of big titles and I feel
04:13like maybe I deserved this little one. I've been knocking on the door a little while and it's for you
04:18to
04:18lose really you know. 7-1 up, all of a sudden things start going through your head and it
04:22could be the biggest collapse of all time. Next, the Canterbury Therapy Centre supporting
04:28people with MS say they can't survive without community fundraising. One member told us she
04:34believes her diagnosis was a death sentence until she found help there. Now her local golf
04:38club has raised thousands as Kerry King has been finding out.
04:41This was my, this saved me when I was first diagnosed with MS because I thought it was going to
04:46be a death sentence.
04:48If I hadn't had the centre to come to I would have had nowhere.
04:52MS is a neurological condition affecting the brain and spinal cord.
05:00Around 130,000 people in the UK are living with MS and an estimated 7,000 are diagnosed every year.
05:09It can cause extreme fatigue, loss of mobility, vision problems and chronic pain. For many in Kent, the difference between
05:16isolation and support is the Kent Neurotherapy Centre in Canterbury which is an independent registered charity providing oxygen therapy, physiotherapy,
05:28specialist exercise and emotional support.
05:31The donations that we receive from our local community are absolutely vital for allowing us to continue running the Neurotherapy
05:38Centre.
05:38Members say it gives him strength physically and mentally.
05:43It actually changed my life for the better because I knew what was wrong with me. I met people that
05:48also knew what it was like to live with MS.
05:51But this centre receives no ongoing statutory funding from the NHS or central government. It's survived on donations, memberships, grants
06:01and fundraising. Without them, the fundraising manager says it simply could not stay open.
06:07So, as a centre, we have to raise £800,000 a year and the donations that we are able to
06:13get from local sports groups, there's a really great way of us bringing in some of that additional funding and
06:19the generosity that we find from those groups is just absolutely fantastic and it really does make a difference of
06:25the day to day lives of our members here.
06:27This week, volunteers organised a coffee open day, homemade cakes, a charity shop and fundraising activities filling the centre with
06:37supporters and alongside that effort, Hyde Golf Club raised £4,000 through charity events presenting the cheque during the open
06:46day.
06:46Morning, Nancy. It's with great privilege to represent Hyde Golf Club in 2025 to hand over this cheque for £4
06:55,000 to the Kent Neurotherapy Centre. Please accept it on our behalf. Thank you very much.
07:04For some, it's therapy. For others, it's friendship. For Arlene, it was hope when she thought she had none. And
07:12without donations like these, that lifeline will be at risk. Kerry King, KMTV, Canterbury.
07:19Next, a hockey club in Cliftonville say they're going to struggle to find a new venue to practice and play
07:25in. I caught up with their chairman earlier.
07:28Thank you so much for joining us, Matt. First of all, can you just explain a bit of the context
07:32about Cliftonville Hockey Club? When did you hear about the merger with St. Lawrence and how is it going to
07:36affect the club?
07:39Yeah, so it's a very sad time for us, really. We're supposed to be celebrating our 100-year anniversary, but
07:46obviously the news of the potential closure of the site in Ramsgate has been very difficult for us.
07:55They are the only provider of pitch space in Thanet. So Cliftonville have been partnering with St. Lawrence for, what,
08:0325 years now, or just over 25 years in terms of facilities and in terms of playing resources as well.
08:11So we're in the situation, really, by May this year, we've got to let England Hockey know what our plans
08:22for next season are, where we're going to play and how many teams.
08:25They obviously need that information in advance of the September season start. And at the moment, we really don't know
08:32what to tell them.
08:33I see. And have conversations with parents and some of your young athletes been had, and has the situation been
08:40explained to them?
08:43At the moment, we're very much in a holding pattern, which is that we don't really know what the plans
08:47for the site are.
08:49I mean, obviously, we're trying to be very cognizant of the fact that people are potentially losing their jobs, and
08:55some of those people are the people we're talking to.
08:58I think, quite rightly, the school is focusing on the pupils, and particularly the pupils, with examinations coming up.
09:04But there is a pragmatic urgency to our interactions with St. Lawrence, and at the moment, we're just waiting to
09:12hear, I think, really, who's going to be in control of the facility.
09:16Because I think, at the moment, we're still very early in the process, and we don't really have that information
09:20or know who to contact.
09:22Absolutely. And can you tell me a bit about the scope of the club? Tell me how many teams you
09:27sort of have, boys and girls.
09:28Tell us just a bit of background about the club.
09:31Yeah, certainly. So, there used to be lots of hockey clubs in Thanet. We're the last surviving one now.
09:38There used to be Thanetians and Westgate Ladies and Thanet Nomads.
09:42Now, Cliftonville is the only hockey in the area. That sort of puts us as a club of special interest
09:51to England hockey,
09:51because without us in the area, that means hockey wouldn't be present.
09:56We put out three men's sides, and actually, we were very much looking forward to potentially putting out a fourth
10:01men's side,
10:02as our youth system started to produce some good young talent.
10:05We put out two ladies' sides. We're finding retaining ladies in hockey a little bit more tricky than retaining men.
10:11I think that's a situation that is sort of spread across sport generally, but I think also with the success
10:18of women's football,
10:20which is great and which we support, it's probably put a little bit of pressure on playing numbers.
10:25We also outreach into the local schools.
10:27Also, we have coaches that go out into local primary schools and secondary schools and provide coaching within PE lessons
10:34and after-school clubs
10:35to try and attract more members to the club.
10:38So, we're really quite active across the community, and so, you know, we're trying to deal with this instability as
10:46best we can, really.
10:48I see. Is it fair to say that you feel as though you're sort of stuck in limbo at the
10:54moment?
10:56Yeah, I think we are, and I wouldn't want to be overly negative about that,
11:01because I think it's a natural consequence of the processes that the school are having to go through.
11:06As I said, you know, they have a duty of care to the people that work for them, the children
11:11at the school,
11:13and I think it's reasonable that we understand that we will be a priority behind that.
11:19But St Lawrence's links to the community, I think, are important to put out there.
11:24I think a lot of people would have a view that a private school all goes on behind closed doors,
11:30and it's the privilege of the wealthy, and I'm sure there are cases of that,
11:36and I know private schools can be contentious for some people.
11:40But in this occasion, you know, being based by the coast,
11:44there are so few world-class facilities that local people have access to.
11:50That's all the time for now. See you in just a few minutes.
15:08Hello, and welcome back to Invicta Sport live here on KMTV.
15:12Now, students of the special needs school Five Acre Wood have taken on an intense 24-hour cardio challenge.
15:20Five Acre Wood has the students, staff, and even community members joining in to raise money for the school.
15:28Five Acre Wood students are running, rowing, and cycling their way through an intense 24-hour challenge to raise money
15:41for a gym on their Oxford Road site.
15:45Joining them are staff, staff, and local community members here at CORE Gym in Maidstone.
15:55Physical fitness is physical fitness is so important for a gym, and if we can support our young people to
16:00have physically fit and active lifestyles, that's going to impact and support them for the rest of their lives.
16:07And we really want to build a gym with CORE Gym, and we want to build a gym with CORE
16:11Gym in Maidstone so that we can provide pathways through to CORE the gym, but also support employment and healthy
16:19lifestyles.
16:20The new gym will be built from an old shipping container, helping students to overcome barriers in fitness and employment.
16:32So, exercise is very adaptable to an individual, so I think there are a lot of students that may not
16:40necessarily be able to take part in sports like, you know, some more able students may be able to, where
16:47in a gym scenario, every exercise is regressible, and we can adapt the movement to suit the individual themselves.
16:54So, it's a really good way to get people who may not really be that interested in physical activity, becoming
17:00more active, and therefore, obviously, becoming a bit more healthy as well.
17:04Even two hours into the fundraiser, Five Acre Wood has already raised £10,000.
17:13While I'm certainly not dressed for the gym, I'll leave it to the students, volunteers, and staff to do all
17:21the heavy lifting.
17:22I started to get involved by, like, doing the treadmill, bicycle, and I've really enjoyed the experience here.
17:33It's like, when you first joined, like, you find it hard, but now I found it a bit more easier
17:40to do it.
17:41Yes, absolutely loved every minute of it. It was the best experience going.
17:48And what have you loved the most about it?
17:50Trying new equipment and talking to new people.
17:54The school has also set up a Just Giving page to get donations for the project.
18:02Five Acre Wood students and staff will be racing through the night with plenty of help,
18:08and, of course, snacks along the way.

18:51Heading to our website, kamtv.co.uk, and clicking on the Programs tab.
18:56There, you'll see videos like this one, all about Chatham Town women's preparing for their FA Cup last 16 match.
19:03They're being called giant killers.
19:06Chatham Town women play in the fourth tier in the Southeast Division of the National League.
19:11But throughout the FA Cup, they've been beating much bigger opponents like York City, Exeter City, and AFC Wimbledon.
19:18But this weekend, they'll have to contend with their biggest challenge yet.
19:22Booking a spot in the quarterfinals means facing off against Birmingham City women's on their home turf, the St Andrews
19:28Stadium.
19:29We've just got to go and get that mentality right and just go in there with the mindset.
19:34I feel like we are ready.
19:36Playing on the Saturday might be a little bit different for us,
19:39but I feel like it might be a good sense for us.
19:42So, yeah, I feel like we're ready.
19:43For the one side, it is just going to be any other game.
19:46And then I think if we can calm any nerves and just make sure that it is as normal as
19:50every other Sunday is for us,
19:51then I think that's the best chance of putting us in.
19:55Keith Bonas is no stranger to silverware.
19:57He led Charlton ladies to two Women's Premier League Cups and the FA Cup itself.
20:02Yeah, it's been over 20 years since I've picked that baby up.
20:07Obviously, it would be a dream to pick it up again, but we're being realistic.
20:10You know, this week, if we're honest, is equivalent to a cup final for us,
20:14and we're approaching it with that kind of mentality.
20:17After the conference, training began and the buzz around the club could be felt in the air.
20:22The Chats absolutely dominated the early rounds of the tournament,
20:26with some strong performances coming from their keeper,
20:28who saved some crucial penalties when they went up against Exeter City.
20:31I always say I feel like you've got a big goal to shoot in as a striker,
20:35but, you know, sometimes you've got to try and get in their heads,
20:39see what they've done in the past, see what they're looking at now.
20:42I always say just go for it because I don't really think it's in the keeper's favour.
20:47The squad also features two identical twins who play at either end of the pitch
20:52and who both scored a hat-trick in the 12-0 thrashing of Horsham
20:56that put them into the first round.
20:58I mean, I feel like I just pick a ball and she's at the end of it,
21:02so it's just always there in the right positions.
21:04Yeah, we're always told we know where each other are,
21:06so since younger as well, and she's just carried on.
21:10Well, here it is, the FA Cup, the top prize.
21:13It's what the Chats have been gunning for throughout the qualifying rounds
21:16and now through the first, second and third rounds,
21:19but this is the deal-breaker.
21:21This is the one.
21:22They will be heading up to Birmingham to see if they can beat the Blues
21:25and get one step closer to the trophy.
21:27It might be physically close to them now,
21:29but they are getting ever closer with every single win.
21:32And while they're off in Birmingham, back home here in Kent,
21:35the whole county will be rooting for them.
21:37Finn McDermid for KMTV in Chatham.
21:41Now, Gillingham fans will be very happy after their 1-0 win away at Barrow.
21:46The Jills haven't been on the most amazing form,
21:49especially while they've been at home at Priestfield,
21:51but their away form has certainly been picking up.
21:54With that in mind, the next few games are against some strong teams,
21:57including Swindon.
21:58So, the Jills will hope they can start to transfer that away form
22:01into their home games.
22:03To find out more about this, I caught up with our local student journalist
22:06and Jills fan Tom Fuligar to give us everything as well as the scoreline.
22:11And Tom joins me now.
22:12So, Tom, talk us through the game.
22:14I think ahead of time you just told me
22:16it's not really one that either side really deserved to win.
22:20Can you talk us through why you think that?
22:21I just didn't have a lot of chances.
22:23I think first half we had two decent-ish ones,
22:27but I think Barrow came out better second half
22:30and had some really, really good ones that we defended well.
22:33I think Smith and Gale defended really well.
22:35But, yeah, that late winner, I mean, you couldn't really make it up
22:37with us at the moment.
22:39So, so late on.
22:40But that's what we need at the moment.
22:43Absolutely.
22:43And talk to me through the first half.
22:45Where McKenzie made some good moves at the start.
22:47Talk to me about that.
22:48Yeah, he had a drive forward.
22:51I think he's quite good at picking the ball up in those areas
22:54and going forward with them.
22:55And he got a shot off that was just wide of the post,
22:58but I think that could have been a great way to win that little attack.
23:03Absolutely.
23:03And talk us through the second half.
23:04I think there were some chances there, but not too many.
23:07Yeah, so Barrow had a corner that went just over the bar.
23:11I thought Turner tipped it over, but, yeah,
23:13it just went over narrowly the bar.
23:16Smith defended across really well that came in.
23:19And Gale stopped a really good attack.
23:22I think Turner might have got it,
23:24but I think he just got a toe in to get away from the attacker.
23:28And he had a really good game as well, Gale, again.
23:30Yeah, brilliant.
23:31And talk us through the lone goal of the match,
23:33coming in the 103rd minute.
23:35Tell me a bit about that.
23:36Yeah, so it came from a corner.
23:38They didn't deal with it too well.
23:40And Ewan Williams, you know, back from the dead,
23:42fired in the shot.
23:45That sort of ricocheted.
23:47It hit McKenzie, who controlled it well and spun,
23:50and then slotted it bottom left.
23:51It was brilliant.
23:52But he does really come up with these big goals.
23:54I think he's a really consistent player.
23:56I think we really need him at the moment.
23:59Absolutely.
24:00I'm aware Antwi was injured in his first start.
24:03Talk us about that injury list for a moment.
24:04Oh, it's just never-ending at the moment.
24:07I mean, I'm guided for him because, you know,
24:09his first start, I mean, you couldn't make it up.
24:12Ewan Williams gets to have a run out,
24:15which is good because I've missed him.
24:16I think he's a good player that needs to look into the team.
24:20But, yeah, I thought he doesn't need that at the moment
24:24when he's not getting the minutes as it is.
24:26But that list is just never-ending at the moment.
24:29No wingers, then no attackers.
24:30I see.
24:31And coming up, I've got quite a few home games.
24:34Swindon being one of them.
24:35Give us sort of a bit of a pre-match for some of those.
24:37What can we expect?
24:38Is it four home games in the next month?
24:40Well, hopefully not as bad as an atmosphere
24:42as we have been getting recently.
24:43I mean, MK Dons is also that list as well.
24:45That's also a big game, both Tuesday nights.
24:48So, who knows what we'll get.
24:50You know, Swindon, I think the first half
24:52against them last time out,
24:53we had that first half,
24:56but second half, they just run riot.
24:58MK Dons, that was not a great away day.
25:02They showed us up.
25:03But we did sort of come back into it.
25:04So, they're both beatable,
25:06but we've just got to turn up.
25:08Absolutely.
25:09I mean, it wasn't too long ago
25:10we were sitting here on this,
25:11so we're talking about the sort of toxic atmosphere
25:13at the Gilles,
25:14with some players even being booed off.
25:16I mean, do you think at the minute
25:17home form is what the Gilles need,
25:19or they're doing quite well away?
25:21Maybe more away games is needed.
25:23Yeah, like I've said before,
25:24I think we've got an amazing away following,
25:26you know,
25:27as the biggest team in Kent,
25:30except for Bromley.
25:31But yeah,
25:33the home crowds at the moment,
25:34people are leaving half-time,
25:36people are just sort of showing up
25:38and going through the motions.
25:39They're not really getting behind the boys.
25:40They're not singing.
25:41There's no real atmosphere.
25:44Yeah, a lot of shouts out to Waynesworth
25:47and things like that.
25:48It's just not a nice place to be.
25:51But we need some good results
25:53to just at least finish the season
25:55on some sort of a form
25:58to then go into the next season
25:59and know that we can do this.
26:02And that is full-time
26:04on today's episode of Invictus Sport.
