00:00Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:18up all of Kent's sporting action. I'm Finn McDermid and here's what you can expect on
00:22Monday 15th December.
00:26Too little, too late, we'll hear from Armani Little about the 2-2 draw and poor fan reaction
00:31at their game against Barrow.
00:33Ebbs and flows, a look back at Ebbsfleet's back and forth weekend clash against Braintree
00:37Town in the FA Trophy and United States of Ainsworth. Gillingham fan from Texas makes
00:43viral video and even gets a response from the club.
00:47But first a round up of the headlines and to start us off it was a solemn full time whistle
00:51for the Gills after they were booed off at Priestfield for losing their 2-0 lead against
00:55Barrow.
00:56The home fixture marked a fifth consecutive draw for the club in which they started
01:00dominant goals coming from Aaron Rowe and an own goal from Barrow's Jack Earring before
01:05Josh Gordon supplied two in the second half to make it a draw. The Gills will head to Fleetwood
01:09Town at the weekend to see if they can snatch a long-awaited win. Captain Armani Little said
01:14that could have been three or four goals up. Well, let's hear what else he had to say.
01:18I think having played that well in the second half and in the first half and then to come
01:23out and perform like that in the second half is just, I don't know how it could be so different
01:28between the halves. But listen, we're going to have to come in next week, work on things,
01:34put things right that we should have done in the second half and take it into the game
01:38hopefully good. We had a few more chances in the first half. We created a few more chances.
01:42We could have been three or four up. I think if we scored one of them, it does put the game
01:49to bed. Two-nil is a funny scoreline but when they did make it 2-1 we had to regroup and we
01:54should have at least seen the game walk on for the third goal.
01:59Now to rugby where it was another heartbreaker for local fans as the Tunbridge Juddians lost
02:03their National League One match against Bishop's Stockfort with the last kick of the game.
02:08The visitors put the Judds under some early pressure, scoring in only ten minutes, but Henry
02:12Kirwan finished it off a move to make it level. The Juddians then pulled ahead, Tom Kendrick
02:17slamming it home. A back and forth start as the game continued for a 19-10 half-time lead.
02:23But in the last half Tunbridge let the ball drop with a final scoreline 26-24 to Stockford.
02:29Next a young wheelchair tennis player from Biddenden has put out his dream to reach the very top
02:34of the sport after making a transition from go-kart racing.
02:38Matt Nozen was born with a spinal cord injury leaving him paralysed below the knee and he
02:42became one of the youngest people in Britain to get his race license for go-karts.
02:46With the surgery on his knee meaning he couldn't press the brake pedal, it wasn't safe for
02:50him to continue and he chose wheelchair tennis as his new sport. He's just become the first
02:54player in history to win the Junior Singles, Men's Open Singles and Men's Open Doubles at
02:59the LTA National Wheelchair Tennis Championships all in the same year.
03:03When not competing internationally, Nozen gives back to the sport by coaching a wheelchair tennis
03:07group at Horsmonden Tennis Club on Friday nights and he also mentors a young Kent player.
03:12And Maidstone's teenage amateur boxer Keira Crittle has won the National Development
03:16Championships in her first year of boxing. She's a member of Kent King's Amateur Boxing
03:20Club and won the competition with a second round stoppage in the under 52kg final. Despite
03:25being only 16, she's also won the Baron Box Cup in Devon with more successes being a big achievement
03:30for her and the club, who were in their first year as an official amateur club. Trainer Jessie
03:35Rossiter says that at her level she's now the best under 52kg girl in the country, adding
03:40she's definitely got a special talent and I think she's on course for good things.
03:44Now let's take a quick look back at this weekend's football results.
03:48Well after bowing out to Grimsby Town in the FA Cup last month, it's time to see if Ebbsfleet
03:51can make a claim on the FA Trophy, this time against Braintree Town.
03:56The fleet haven't been particularly on form, losing three of their last five, only one
04:00win against Chesham for them. Braintree Town are higher opposition in the National League
04:05and have been on slightly better form. The Irons have two wins to their name in the last
04:09five, but can they keep treading water?
04:11Well only just gone 15 minutes and the fleet are looking dominant. Moncourt beats two on
04:15the byline, pulls it back, can Logan clear? No, goes to Charlie Seaman, it's deflected and
04:20up, Ben Chapman's hitting it and what a goal, an overhead stunner to put the fleet one up.
04:26Not a start to the game. Now Edsa gets a booking for a foul on Pennington, free kick whipped
04:31in, oh that's not good, it'll be a penalty. Seaman went to clear it and Braintree's Tom
04:37Blackwell just went down there. Emmanuel Thomas steps up to take it for the Irons, tucks
04:41it into the bottom corner, past keeper Matt Hall to make it 1-1.
04:45Into the second half now and the fleet need a way to squeeze themselves back in this, Seaman
04:49runs it down, he loses his man, he keeps driving, plays it across to Peek who hits it first,
04:54time, clinical finishing to retake the lead. Ebbsfleet can really hammer it home now, Braintree
04:59go down to ten men with a needless second yellow. Can the fleet capitalise on this chance?
05:05Manktelo has only just come on and he's bearing down on goal, all on his own, puts it bottom
05:09left to secure the next round place for the fleet. A brilliant game, surely all square now.
05:16And that is it, that marks full time. Fleet will be heading to the next round of the FA Trophy,
05:20they've knocked out higher league opposition of Braintree. Well done to them.
05:25Hitting three against the Irons, a strong showing from Ebbsfleet, hopefully they can
05:28gain momentum for their next league fixture. Elsewhere in the FA Trophy, Dover suffered
05:33a 4-1 loss against National League South leaders. Hornchurch, a blow to their trophy hopes while
05:38Maidstone had a heartbreaking defeat, going all the way to penalties after a 1-1 draw to lose
05:424-2 from the spot. The Angels didn't have a game this week. And coming up, Dover host
05:48Eastbourne Borough in the league. The Angels aren't visited by three wise men, instead
05:52by Dagenham and Redbridge. Maidstone will head to Hampton and Richmond Borough, while Ebbsfleet
05:57travel to face off against Chelmsford City. Up to League Two now, and it was a tough watch
06:02for Gilles fans as they had to settle for a draw after losing a 2-0 lead at home against Barrow.
06:06The players were apparently booed off the pitch. Hopefully they'll receive a better reaction
06:10when they next travel away to Fleetwood at the weekend. Ainsworth will hope to collect
06:14three points against the fishermen who were just below them in the league.
06:17Now before we get to the Isthmian Premier, congratulations are in order for Chatham
06:21Town, who secured their place in the fourth round of the FA Trophy thanks to a decisive
06:25win against Plymouth Parkway. They play in the Southern League Premier Division South.
06:30And finally, into the Isthmian Premier, we saw a Kent Derby with Dartford facing Folkestone,
06:35with Invicta coming off the winners to continue their incredible form. Ramsgate travelled to Burgess
06:40Hill and fans were treated to a seven-goal thriller, but one which the Rams narrowly lost.
06:46Coming up, the Chats will host Potters Bar Town, Dartford will have St Albans, the Rams
06:49head to Dulwich and Folkestone will try and see off Cray Valley Paper Mill as well. That's
06:53all from me, see you next week.
06:57And with the apparent fan reaction being quite poor when Priestfield hosted Barrow, I thought
07:01we needed some more analysis into just why fans were so enraged. Was it the fact they ended
07:06up from 2-0 up against the side to a draw, or the fact this marks the Gills fifth in a
07:11row? I was joined earlier by a student journalist and Gillingham fan, Tom Fullagar, to answer
07:15that very question.
07:15Well, thanks for joining us. Tom, obviously you were at the game, so tell us a bit about
07:20how it all started from the kick-off.
07:21Well, we were playing absolutely amazing, I think really free-flowing, a lot of nice
07:26little tiki-taka like it was like prime Barca. I've never seen quite anything like it and
07:32I thought that would continue on for the whole game, but my God, that second half, total opposite,
07:38just come out and just didn't want to win the game. We made Barrow look like the team at
07:43the bottom in the first half, but second half we just let them all over us.
07:47I see. Well, let's go through the game. Tell us about the first goal. I'm aware from your
07:52eyes it was a lot of Nevit, but it did go down as a known goal. Talk us through it.
07:55Yeah, Nevit worked really hard. He was fighting to get into the box and got a good chance away
08:01and the defender just tapped it in for him. So, it was a bit of luck, but I think he had
08:06a really good game, I thought. He was really trying and yeah, it paid off for him for that
08:11first one.
08:12That's good. It's what you like to see. It was quite a quick goal as well, wasn't it?
08:15Yeah, relatively quick, yeah.
08:17Okay. Well, tell us about the second goal coming from Rowe. Tell us about that.
08:21Wow. That was a goal and a half. He is a player that's got so much skill, but then sometimes
08:27he's just not using it. You know, he takes him on, he's quick feet, love a bit of skill
08:33to lose his defender and then curls one in. Absolutely beautiful technique. But yeah, and he was voted
08:39man of the match as well. So, yeah, good performance from him.
08:41I see. And obviously, 2-0 at the half-time. Tell us about when they came out. How did
08:47they look? Could you tell it was going to be a bit of a difficult one after that?
08:51I think, yeah, I didn't think we were going to be that bad. I thought we were going to
08:56go for more because they just didn't look like they were going to play football barrow.
09:00Didn't really have any players that I thought were going to be a danger. But yeah, that first
09:05goal that we conceded, an absolutely amazing header from Gordon from across in. There's not
09:10really anything we could have done about that. It just sort of shocked everyone. And then
09:15we were like, oh, you know, I'm sure we'll get another one that will seal it off. But
09:19no.
09:20Armani Little actually had the exact same view. He said that they could have gone for three
09:23or four, but just couldn't end up firing at the other end. So tell us about the goals
09:28from Barrow, then the third and the fourth. How was that? Third and fourth. Sorry, the
09:32third and fourth goals overall.
09:34Yeah, the fourth one, just Akamea falling asleep. I thought he had a good game except
09:42from that. But yeah, he lost his man. And it was just an easy tap in, played in across
09:46the box, which was a shame. But yeah, defensively, we just looked stagnant. But yeah, we could
09:54have easily, as much as we could have scored more, we could have also conceded more. I
09:58really did think we were going to lose that one.
10:00I see. And tell us a bit about the atmosphere at the full-time whistle. I heard a little bit
10:05that there was some jeering, some booing from the fans. Tell us, what was that like? Do
10:09you kind of expect that thing at Priestfield? And what do you think they were particularly
10:12annoyed about the fact that it was two goals up to then go to 2-2? The fact is the fifth
10:17consecutive draw or anything else that might have happened on the pitch?
10:20I think it's a combination of all of that. I think a lot of people, obviously, after the
10:24Dobson reign, were hoping that Ainsworth would be the person that brought them back to the
10:30times before, that we were actually playing decent football. But nothing seems to be changing.
10:37All these points dropped against the lower half teams and we're falling. I think we had
10:4210th, I think, now. A lot of people think it's season over, that position now, which I think
10:49is a shame because it is still quite early on. But I do see what they mean. I don't really
10:55see how we get any better from this. Maybe it's waiting for people coming back from injury.
11:00I think Ainsworth's game management isn't great, but it's limited to what he's got on the bench
11:08because we haven't really got a lot of quality on there, I don't think, that can help us see all
11:13the wins. You know, Kubermeni coming on for Dak and he just looked like so tired. You know,
11:21how can a sub actually be worse than what we've already got on? You know, how can they be so much
11:26more tired? And I don't think he should have took Dak off because then that limited our creativity.
11:31Now we have reached half time, meaning it is coming up for a break. We'll take a look back
11:39at a gym in Folkestone that's experienced some great success after helping people get
11:43into fitness without too much anxiety or pressure. And we'll also meet Eli, a TikToker who's caught
11:49the attention of Gillingham FC, all for wearing a shirt in America. All that and more after this
11:55short break.
12:25Hello, folks.
12:27Hello, welcome.
12:29And I will be here for you to take a look at the top three weeks.
12:32And at the final break, I'm going to go through one week, go through this one, I'm going
12:35to review a couple of our goals, and what do you like to do this? Now, take a look at the
12:39students who have to finish the top three weeks for then. And I will say that time, take a look after
12:44two weeks. I'm doing this, but I'm actually working with them for the next five weeks. It's
12:48good.
12:49I think there's still going to go through this through the next week.
17:23Steve says he hopes the new space will remain a judgment-free zone for local people wanting
17:27to get fit.
17:28I mean, going from my own sort of story, if you like, I was very overweight and very unhealthy,
17:35as I mentioned. Completely changed my life. And being able to do that for other people,
17:42as far as job satisfaction, it's fantastic.
17:44Getting more people moving can never be a bad thing. So let's hope the expansion here helps
17:49others take that first rep towards self-improvement. Chloe Brewster for KMTV in Folkestone.
17:54Now we'll be taking a trip across the pond to talk to Eli Quivey, who lives all the way in
18:00San Antonio, Texas. But he's attracted the attention of Gillingham Football Club. In a
18:04viral video, which has now amassed more than 400,000 views, he said he's likely the first
18:10American to be wearing an official Gillingham kit. The Jills actually saw the clip saying he
18:15has their attention. But before we talk to Eli, let's have a look at the video that started
18:19it all.
18:20I'm just going to go ahead and say, I have to be the first American to have a Gillingham
18:26kit and go on a run in it. This is 100% legit, big up Gillingham. That's my League Two side.
18:32We tied that against Borough. We're 10th in the League, League Two to be exact, and English
18:37football. Yeah. If Gillingham sees this, I'd love another kit. And also, when I come back
18:43over to England, I need to come to a match. Yeah. I have to be the only American that
18:48has a Gillingham kit. Come on.
18:52Thank you for joining us, Eli. First of all, tell us a bit about your page on TikTok and
18:56what kind of content you make.
18:58What's up? Thank you for having me. Yeah. So I've been posting on TikTok for about three years,
19:04mainly about English football. And then it kind of grew into English UK content base. And then I
19:09started traveling over to England. Last year, I went over there for a week and a half,
19:13a week and a half. And then this year, again, I went back for another week and a half. And yeah,
19:18just kind of growing my page, posting about the UK and mainly stuff that goes on in the UK,
19:22but I live in America. So that is kind of the gist of it.
19:26I see. And the viewers can actually see some of your TikToks here. You've done stuff about the
19:31difference between, you say there, the British slang installed in me, fam, you know, discussing the
19:37differences. Tell us a bit about football, or as you might call it, soccer over there in the States.
19:44How does it really compare?
19:47Yeah, it's football for sure. I don't say the S word.
19:50But the comparison, it's interesting. I grew up playing in the academy system here. My dad played
19:56here in the States as well. But basically, I grew up playing the academy system and then played in
20:01college, university, you guys call it at the highest level. So I have a pretty good IQ of football.
20:06And then now I work in our professional, there's the MLS and the USL championship. I work for the club
20:13and the USL championship. It's my local side, San Antonio FC.
20:17So the difference is very interesting. Because obviously, over in England, there's so many
20:21different leagues, steps, Sunday league, all the way from the prim, champ, all the way down to,
20:26you know, league one, league two, and then step five, step six, and all those, so on and so forth.
20:30So it's a lot different. I haven't been over to like a league one or league two side to watch in
20:35person. So I can't really touch on the play style and the differences. I just know it's different
20:40levels over there compared to over here.
20:41I see. And obviously, it's not too common for someone over in the States to be following a
20:47league one or a league two side. So tell us about when you first got your hands on a Jill's kit and
20:51the idea behind the viral video.
20:54Yeah. So last year, I posted a TikTok asking if people would basically send me random kits from
21:00England. And I got a handful of random kits. And I can't lie, that video, I was just like,
21:07I'm going to go for a run. And I put the top on because I was like, it kind of matches my new
21:12running, running, running shoes. And I basically was just like, I have to be the first American to
21:17wear a Jill's kit. And since I got sent that kit, I have been following them a little bit here and
21:22there. I can't really watch them because I don't have a streaming service for it. But I follow them on
21:27socials. And I've been paying attention, seeing the players I've been getting in. And then,
21:31yeah, I saw the result on the weekend. And I was like, I might post this and see what happens.
21:35And then, I mean, in the span of six hours, it just absolutely blew up.
21:39Absolutely. And tell us a bit about your reaction when you found out that Jill's actually saw it
21:45and they left a comment under your post saying you have our attention. Tell us about what your
21:49reaction was like in that moment.
21:52Yeah, it was interesting because I posted it and then I was busy the rest of the day. So I wasn't
21:56really checking my TikTok. And then I looked and I was like, oh, like they commented. That's hilarious.
22:02And then I messaged them being all greedy. And I was like, hey, please, I need the new kit.
22:06And so we're going back and forth. But yeah, it was cool to see. Thankfully, on my TikTok, I've had
22:12some really big clubs comment on my TikTok. So it's just a really cool feeling. I feel like I'm like
22:17Thanos. I'm like collecting them like infinity stones, getting comments from these clubs over
22:22in England. It's crazy because I live so far away. But yeah.
22:25Absolutely. You haven't got too much time left. But I'm curious, do you think there's a real untapped
22:30market for these League One and League Two sides to maybe get some fans across the pond?
22:35One hundred percent. Yeah. And I would love to be the forefront of that. My main goal with my TikTok
22:39is to break into the British media as either a pundit or a social media personality through my TikTok
22:45and be the first American to do that. So hopefully I can bridge that gap in the future.
22:48Amazing. Well, thank you so much for joining us, Eli Quivey. I'm sure Gillingham fans and
22:54fans of lower league sides will be excited to see what you get up to next. Thanks so much for your
22:59time. And oh, there it is. Got to get the shirt in. Well, hopefully the Gills will get you another
23:02new one. Yeah. Brilliant. Thank you so much for your time, Eli.
23:07Cheers. Thank you.
23:10Well, great to talk to Eli then. Now over to cricket, where some of our reporters have been seeing
23:14what a day in the life of a tier two women's county cricketer is like from making tough choices as a
23:19captain to the daily hustle of fitting the sport into your work life balance. This all comes as part
23:25of a documentary that can be watched on our website now. Like I say, it follows the full day in the life
23:31of a tier two women's cricketer, all the way from getting up early in the morning, working on mentorship,
23:37all the way to that evening training. Let's have a quick sneak peek at that documentary.
23:42Pepperminty is meant to wake you up a bit more. So if I've got a long day in training today,
23:47I have one. It should wake me up a little bit more. So I'm a big fan of hoops.
23:55Really exciting, isn't it? I'm not a massive breakfast eater in the morning. But yeah,
24:00I think just some cereal and nothing too big. I'm a big fan of having a big lunch and a big dinner.
24:06Our team now, where it's the new structure for women's cricket, we've got tier one and tier two,
24:12we're tier two. We were just thinking about getting a mortgage. And I hate to say about money, but the
24:18money that I would have earned as a professional cricket player wasn't enough to cover all of the
24:23mortgage that we were trying to get. Whereas working as a teacher full time, it is.
24:27Oh, he's a little bit more needy. I don't get much of a rest when I'm at home because he's just in your
24:36face a little bit. Good. See you later.
24:41So today, today's my really busy day, actually. I normally get in a little bit earlier and plan
24:46my lessons and stuff, but I've already done that. So I didn't need to.
24:49Teaching kids that are struggling with something and then making them better. I think for me,
24:58that's the most rewarding thing. Morning. That's teach Ari. I'm going to talk about the Christmas
25:04story and Bethlehem. And they're going to start drawing little pictures of Bethlehem and what they
25:09think it looked like back in the day. Who can tell me what religion is the Christmas story? Flynn.
25:16They're a really nice bunch of kids. Yeah, they're really engaged. And I think the Christmas story
25:24is just more, it's very magical. So I think for them, they get very excited then about Christmas.
25:29And yeah, I love teaching it. Well done. See you later. Just finished Ari. Come in, Rowan.
25:37Ordering fractions with the same denominator. Okay. Being a captain, I've got to manage behaviour
25:45of the women's players. Not as much as children in a classroom, but I think it's being disciplined,
25:50organised. They do really cross over and having that sporting mindset, I think helps you understand
25:56children a little bit better. You've got to commit. If you want to be high up in sport,
26:01you've got to make sacrifices. So yeah, that's why I do it all. Oh, I'm sorry that was so long.
26:07All good.
26:12And you can watch that full documentary on our website, kmtv.co.uk. And that also marks full
26:19time on today's episode of Invicta Sport. And if you want more from KMTV, you can head over to our
26:24website, I just mentioned kmtv.co.uk, where all of our special shows are available to watch back on demand.
26:30And don't forget to follow us on our social media at kmtvkent or keep up on the latest from Invicta Sport
26:37on our website. And if you have a sports story, maybe you run a club or know an up-and-coming
26:41athlete who deserves the spotlight, make sure to let us know and it might just be featured next time.
26:46That's all the time we have. Thank you so much for watching.
