02:08with the spartans how you feeling about tomorrow i don't feel good i don't feel good because there's
02:14just too many injuries on the defense they are absolutely decimated their top three linebackers
02:19look like they're going to be out uh i think two of their time the two of their most recent
02:23top
02:24corners because they keep losing corners that these guys are out uh their best offensive lineman
02:29their left tackle boroski he he's out uh at least a couple days ago he was listed as out
02:35um they're really depleted however all this was going on while they were coming back and making
02:41the game against illinois in the second half of that game they've dealt with injuries all season long
02:46next man up mentality is is is what you have to deal with their coach is fired up he always

02:52he got his team inspired enough on on saturday to get to overtime they tied it up they had a
02:59chance to
03:00win with a two-point conversion they just fell short i like how they fight and i like how they
03:05battle they may have found something which has patterson in the run game and using the short passing
03:11game um maybe we usually utilizing the tight ends that can help out uh the second half of that game
03:18they really did improve and maybe milivojevic has has done something where okay you've unlocked him and
03:24maybe you've unlocked that offense a little bit not where you're contenders but is it enough to
03:29to control the game a little bit is enough to keep northwestern off the field with north northwestern's
03:36great running attack can you can you limit that uh there is a path to winning but they're going to
03:43have to create some turnovers they're going to have to not make the pre-snap penalties and the dumb
03:48mistakes you've got to avoid that michigan state almost has to play one of these perfect games
03:54to make it happen and it has to be coupled with northwestern making some mistakes of their own
03:58and they don't normally make too many mistakes they're pretty well disciplined team you add in
04:04the little uh sauciness of aiden child's coming back to take on michigan state uh and pat fitzgerald
04:10coaching against his former team uh in northwestern maybe that balances itself out
04:17i'm just hopeful michigan state can keep it close but i think northwestern ends up winning this one
04:21maybe by 10 points so i have two thoughts um one is the idea that michigan state went last week

04:30looking as bad as they possibly could to about as good as they possibly could like and and carrying that
04:36momentum you're looking for moments in time when your team's in rebuild mode that they might have
04:41turned a corner and maybe it was late in that second quarter against illinois into the second half
04:46that they you know turn some sort of corner um so if they if they can go out and like
04:53continue
04:54playing that way it could be a good sign just for the overall arc of the program uh two is
04:59it's gonna
05:00be a beautiful day for college football for people that are going to these games here locally the
05:05child's and and fitzgerald thing is i don't know if we we overblow those things or should be like
05:15you know pat fitzgerald tried to play it down when he when he spoke with the media and he's not

05:19kind of guy that makes it about him um like like like a lane kiffin might on at times like

05:27i think he might um but it but he's not like i'm not i'm not sure if this is a

05:34could make the case that they could both be pissed fitzgerald could be pissed at northwestern and
05:39chiles could be pissed at michigan state even though it wasn't pat fitzgerald that went with millivoy
05:44over chiles i think chiles is an interesting story if you look at at his career arc and i'll just

05:53the interceptions column 11 his first year as a starter at michigan state to three last year at
06:01michigan state he hasn't thrown a pick yet this year yeah through five games at northwestern so you
06:07know that that is a um you know there's something to be said when you're watching michigan and michigan
06:15state with young quarterbacks is just sometimes it doesn't happen right away and and it feels like
06:22chiles is kind of coming into his own this year yeah and i don't think he's taken as many chances
06:27throwing the football either so they're high percentage plays and just look he's managing the game very well
06:33and if you've got no turnovers at this point no interceptions as i should say to this point you're
06:38playing well yeah um michigan and penn state wolverine's coming off that ugly performance in
06:43minneapolis everybody wants to talk about the quarterback minnesota did a better job than iowa
06:49in terms of moving coverage at the snap and and messing with bryce a little bit um and they've worked
06:56on in these two weeks his you know progressions and reading all that uh according to people in
07:02the building he's worked really hard he's he's putting in the work he has a good mindset but i think
07:07it'd be hard for him not to feel the pressure they gave tommy carr more snaps by all accounts you

07:14tommy carr had what i've been told had some good good practice time and you know is pushing for more
07:21playing time you know talking with jason beck and coach with this week it doesn't sound like he's
07:28physically where he probably ideal what they want him to be when it comes to you know taking hits at
07:35the big 10 level i just keep thinking of dylan mccaffrey who had both his first two seasons at
07:40michigan end with season ending injuries and he was he was spindly man and and so but tommy may get

07:51other young standouts in the two weeks hogan hansen the tight end he's back 100 that helps the
07:57quarterback uh tarik boney and carter metals the two freshman edge rushers uh have played well in
08:03practice mason curtis penn state's an interesting team 24 cyclones 24 iowa state cyclones make up
08:10this team and their tight ends are monsters the rappelier kid and bramer 87 and 18 are are are just
08:18giants they'll go four tight end formations that's how much they love their tight ends
08:25i look at this and i see that in michigan has got to get the running game going and maybe
08:30penn state's
08:31the perfect elixir for them to do that that maybe they if they can start running the ball to calm
08:35things down with bryce underwood he can be a little more selective with when he throws the football or at
08:39least jason beck can be more selective when he calls for those passes the the other aspect of for for
08:45penn state is they got to keep the quarterback upright they've done a great job of protecting
08:48back the quarterback all season long and he's been pretty efficient as a passer but they're going
08:53against the best pass defense in the big 10 with michigan so if penn state's able to throw the
08:58football they're going to stay close in this game i mean the spread is only it's less than a touchdown
