00:06Hi everyone and welcome on Segret TV for a new interview with Simon Sutton. Hello Simon.
00:12Hello, good afternoon. Good afternoon, thank you for being with us. Dear Simon, as you have been
00:17the chair of study committee D1 materials and energy test techniques for two years and you
00:23are reelected for two more years so congratulations about that. Thank you. Could you please tell us
00:29how was your past two years as a chair of this committee? It's been a steep learning curve I've
00:39been involved in the committee for a long time either as one of the advisory groups or the regular
00:46member for the UK and you don't realize all the things that the chairman also has to do and we
00:55changed our secretary at the same time and so we've both come into this kind of blind and so there's
01:04been a lot to learn there's a lot of work. So there's a lot of work and I would like
01:09to know
01:10what is precisely the work of your study committee and what is its same goal? So D1 is one of
01:18the
01:18transversal committees so we support many of the other committees with their work so we focus on
01:25materials and test techniques we're often trying to understand how materials age how it can be detected
01:33which is really important for the people who are looking after these assets in the real world to work
01:40at how long they are going to live and survive. We also support a lot of the development work for
01:48international standards and the revision of standards. Things change over time things like the energy
01:53transition a lot more HVDC products out there they age in different ways we need new ways of monitoring
02:02testing them and D1 helps support the standards development in those areas too. Thank you for
02:09this explanation. You are also the director of technical services at Double. How was the impact of your
02:16career on your position as a chair at this study committee the study committee D1 at Tigray? I think it
02:24helps in both directions I've my entire career I've been involved in materials and testing to some
02:31extent whether that was my research my PhD years ago the jobs I've held over time and I've worked and
02:42collaborated with Cigray a lot Cigray gives you fantastic opportunities to travel the world meet
02:48people from all over the world and that's part of what I do in my job you know I talk
02:55to customers
02:55all around the world Cigray and my job helps make me culturally aware understand different people and
03:07both of them support each other I think that's really important. Yeah it's a good balance. It is a good
03:12balance and yes I like to travel I like to meet people and both my job and Cigray give me
03:19those
03:20opportunities. Super great and yes Robert because you are here in Paris too this year and I hope you
03:24will enjoy this session Simon. I am definitely enjoying it and this is I think my 26th year of
03:34coming to Cigray. Ah yeah okay so you used to to be with us. I am used to being here
03:38I love being here
03:40and I love coming back to see people and friends and people I've worked with and collaborated with
03:46over many many years. Thank you very much Simon for being here. Thanks.
