00:06Hello everyone and welcome on Stigret TV for new interviews with two guests this afternoon.
00:13Welcome to Renveig Lockheed. Welcome.
00:16And welcome Volker Lettloff.
00:18Thank you both of you for being with us today.
00:21Dear Renveig, as you have been the chair of the study committee B5, meaning protection and automation for six years,
00:28could you please tell us how did your term go?
00:31Oh, I've been very happy with this term. It's such a nice community and we've had, we've traveled the work,
00:38so we've been to Norway, we've been to France, and we've been also around virtually,
00:44because we had the e-session and the virtual session. This was not my favorite part.
00:50But we have produced a lot of technical brochures, we've had tutorials, and we have discussed papers.
00:56So, yeah, I've been very happy.
00:59Great. Dear Volker, first of all, we wish you to congratulate for your new role as a chair.
01:05And how did you receive the news?
01:07Well, it didn't come as a surprise because we have been talking with Renveig Lockheed about this for some time.
01:14And, of course, I had to get the clearance for my company. But when I allowed the vote, I was
01:23proud and glad, of course.
01:25And also there's a little bit of apprehension because now it's a big challenge to take over from Renveig.
01:31Thank you very much. And to understand more precisely the work of your study committee,
01:37could you explain what is the work of this study committee B5 on a daily basis and what is its
01:43same goal?
01:43Yeah, so we try to keep the lights on. So the protection, it sits in the substation and it's going
01:52to look after, well, if there's a tree falling on a line,
01:56it should make sure that only the faulty part gets stripped and the rest of the light stays on.
02:03And, of course, this means that we have to do a lot of technical discussions and we write a lot
02:08of paper.
02:09We have a working group where we discuss technical issues and then we meet on a regular basis.
02:16So this is very short.
02:18Okay, thank you. And Volker, what are the three most important actions that you would like to take in place
02:24in priority as your new role as a chair of this study committee?
02:29There will be no revolution, but we have discussed just this morning in the SAC some actions that we should
02:36take into place.
02:38One is the better manage the creation of working groups and the identification of preferential subjects.
02:48A second one is maybe the monitoring of the work of the working groups and not to give the conveners
02:56feedback and also get more information of the progress of the working groups.
03:02And also, yeah, I think these are the most important things we have to put in place.
03:09Okay, thank you very much. And as a chair, what were your most memorable moments that you could share with
03:18us today?
03:18And also, are you still be involved in the CIGRE as an active member after that?
03:23Yeah, thank you for this question. It's hard to pick like the one moment, but I really liked when we
03:30met in Tromsø, in Norway, and every one of us was there in, it was June, and the full study
03:38committee were there.
03:39We had a lot of discussions. It was light, but it was snowing in June.
03:46Oh, yeah.
03:46Yeah, we had some feedback on this. So I think this was one of the memories. It's like to get
03:52to see the shock from some of the people from Brazil. It's like, oh, it's a good memory.
03:58Thank you very much, both of you.
03:59And one more thing. I do have plans, and we will talk about that in a later discussion today, because
04:06I was selected technical council chair.
04:11So I for sure will be in CIGRE. This is one of the top positions. You have the president, the
04:17technical council chair, and you have the treasurer.
04:20So I will work with Konstantin and Philip and Mike and Ratti. I'm very honored.
04:26That's important to say. Thank you. Maybe a last word, because I see there's a little bell on our table.
04:33What do you want to do with that?
04:36We ring with it when we are out of time. And this is something I would like to hand over
04:41to Volker, now when he will be the chair, so he will be the commander of time.
04:47The floor is yours.
04:48Thank you, Ron Wake.
04:49Thank you, both of you.
04:52Welcome.
