00:06Hello, welcome on Sigret TV with our new guest today. This is the first day of this event and
00:13we are with Kevin. Hello, Kevin Mayor. Hello there, hi everyone. Thank you for being with us today.
00:20As you have been the chair of the committee A1, Power Generation and Electromechanical Energy
00:25conversion for four years. Could you please tell us how did your term go? Yes, certainly. So from my
00:33perspective, it went very well. Very interesting being the chair. Four years has gone rather more
00:39quickly than I anticipated. It's been challenging along the way. The session in 2021 was a virtual
00:46session and that was had to work to a very detailed time schedule. So that was quite
00:52challenging and interesting. It's been rewarding as well from the meeting again,
00:57the people in the study committee meetings, the face-to-face meetings. That's always the best
01:02part of Sigret really. So interesting and rewarding with a few challenges along the way. Perfect.
01:10And to be in the more details, could you explain to us what is the work of study committee A1
01:16on a daily basis and what is its aim goal? Yes, so the committee A1 is involved in in the
01:25equipment
01:25side of the Sigret study committees and we deal with power generation and electromechanical energy
01:31conversion and traditionally that's been associated with large rotating machines. What we what we do
01:41within the scope of the study committee is we aim to share knowledge and experience across the whole
01:46technical community involved in those fields and we do that by organising surveys on aspects of
01:54interest. We develop those questionnaires into technical brochures and working group reports
02:00and we share those findings with the community and where it makes sense we give guidance and
02:06recommendations for the benefit of all that we that we all learn from these kind of global practices.
02:13We also organise technical papers and you know for the Paris sessions and the study committees where we
02:18develop quality technical papers for the benefit of the community and the engineering community as a whole.
02:27And my last question I would like to ask you what were your memorable moments if I can say like
02:32that
02:33as a chair of the committee A1 what is what were your memorable moments and will you still be involved
02:40in the Sigret as an active member after that? Yes well I have two things that keep coming to mind
02:46when I think of
02:47my Sigret career let's say and the first thing that always amuses me a little bit is that when we
02:53did the 2021
02:54virtual session I captured the screenshot of uh of me on the on the screen with the caption underneath
03:02Kevin Mayer live from Paris so I keep showing to that to my friends you know to show how
03:08how famous I am you know and the other memory from some of the study committee meetings was last year
03:16in
03:16Japan we had the study committee meeting face to face for the first time since covid
03:20yeah and the national committee of Japan invited me to a dinner and there was a nice ninja display
03:28and I was invited to sit on the stage with a large vegetable on my head whilst a a ninja
03:34a
03:35blindfolded ninja warrior behind me with a very sharp sword took a swipe at it and that's this that's
03:41the uh I've never sat so still in my life oh yeah unfortunately he hit the correct vegetable okay
03:47the one on top of my head but uh so there's a so quite a lot of other memories as
03:52well of course
03:53but those are the uh two most amusing from my perspective anyway okay and will you be still an
03:59active member i'll still stay an active member of uh of study committee a1 and see gray because i'll help
04:04when i hand over the chair and i'll stay to support that and i'll support the working groups that i'm
04:10still in and
04:11uh share what knowledge i can share uh so i'll still be an active member of sea gray for a
04:17few years yet
04:18i think and uh to finish the interview you have something to say for the next chair uh yes i
04:25said
04:25time for me to hand over now i've done the four years it's time for me to hand over to
04:29uh howard
04:30setting as the next chair and uh i've known howard for quite many years in sea gray he's got a
04:35very deep
04:36engineering knowledge and knowledge of sea gray and uh i think he's well placed to take on the
04:41challenges that are faced with the energy transition and that and study committee a1 so it's just uh
04:48it's just down to me now to give the formal hand over to uh howard i've no torch unfortunately
04:54howard but uh i do have a usb stick thank you very much kevin thank you thank you
