00:00Hi there.
00:01Blustery showers will continue at first tonight, but eventually the showers and the winds will
00:06ease.
00:06A brief ridge of high pressure builds from the south, killing off many of these showers.
00:12As you can see, for much of the UK after midnight, it's dry, it's clear.
00:16Any remaining showers confined to the north and west of Scotland.
00:19With those clear spells, and with the lighter winds, it is a cooler night, temperatures
00:23dipping into the single figures reasonably widely away from main urban centres.
00:28Now, this ridge of high pressure is with us first thing Tuesday, but as the day progresses,
00:35this unusually deep area of low pressure, in fact, could break records in Iceland for the
00:40deepest October low they've experienced.
00:43So very deep, but in contrast to this high, a lot of isobars on the chart.
00:49And that's why as these weather fronts approach during Wednesday, winds will pick up especially
00:53towards the northwest of the UK.
00:55We do start the day in the northwest with some outbreaks of rain, mostly light and patchy,
01:00and much of this rain focused over western hills and coasts of Scotland.
01:04The cloud, though, all the while thickens up across many parts of the country, especially
01:08towards the west and the north.
01:10A few light showers for the Welsh mountains, for example.
01:12And as that wind picks up, well, we're going to see gales developing in western Scotland.
01:18So wind speeds in excess of 40 miles an hour.
01:21Those are the mean speeds.
01:22Gusts are likely to be between 60 and 70 miles an hour in exposed western parts of Scotland.
01:28As a result, there's a wind warning.
01:30Moderate impacts from that wind are looking likely.
01:33Less windy further southeast with the cloud still thickening and limited sunshine by the
01:38afternoon.
01:39Temperatures typically in the mid to high teens.
01:43As we go through the afternoon and evening, it will turn increasingly wet in the northwest
01:47as well.
01:48And these brighter colours here indicate some heavy rain moving through as a cold front dips
01:52south into Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:54A wet night to come for northern parts of the country.
01:57That front eventually bringing rain to Cumbria further south than that.
02:01The cloud continuing to thicken.
02:02Some light, showery rain across some southwestern parts.
02:05A breezy night to come.
02:07And as a result, it is a relatively mild night.
02:09Temperatures in many places in the south.
02:11Mid-teens first thing Thursday.
02:13A much fresher feel behind the cold front of the far northwest of Scotland.
02:18Showers soon replacing the more persistent wet weather.
02:21Not as windy, but still blustery on Thursday in this showery zone.
02:26The front, meanwhile, slows down as it moves through northern England, parts of north and
02:30west Wales.
02:31South Wales, central and southern England staying clear of it throughout much of Thursday.
02:37A largely cloudy day, and with winds coming from the south, it is going to be another
02:42mild day where we get some glimmers of brightness.
02:44Temperatures getting into the low 20s.
02:46Mid to low teens in the north behind the front.
02:49And like I say, blustery showers, but also some brighter interludes as well.
02:54This front continues on its journey south as we go through Thursday night into the start
02:59of Friday.
03:00Eventually it clears and sunnier spells break through for many places on Friday.
03:04And it stays dry and bright throughout much of the weekend as high pressure builds in.
03:08We'll see you again.
03:09That's the end.
